What silhouette will look best on your body?

Before you hit the bridal shop and are overwhelmed by lace, tulle and silk, remember that you will look your best on your wedding day if you pick out something that works for your shape and style.

Not only will you be more comfortable, but if you play to your strengths you will look even more beautiful than you ever expected. Here are some guidelines to what wedding wear will flatter your figure best:

-- Hourglass shape: To accent your curves, go for a dress with a basque silhouette (it comes to a "V" at the waist) that flows into a full skirt.

-- Short waist: The princess shape, which is fitted at the bodice and then gradually opens up to a full skirt, will elegantly elongate your figure.

-- Undefined waist: A dress with a high empire waist (think "Emma") will minimize emphasis on the waistline and still give you a long, lean look.

-- Full figure: To camouflage full arms, try a dress with long, tapered sleeves. A V-shaped waist will de-emphasize full hips.

-- Pear-shaped figure: A bodice with detailing on top will balance out a full lower body. A good choice is a strapless gown with some type of decoration at the edge (this style is also great for those with a small bust).

-- Petite: It’s best to keep it simple. When you’re small, a big, elaborate gown can sometimes look as if it is wearing you! A sheath dress is a good choice; its slim shape will not overpower and it can actually make you look taller.

-- Great legs: Don’t be afraid to show them off on the big day! Go ahead and wear something above the knee. Go with a simple short sheath or something with a full skirt.
