Midland Lee 25, Stephenville 7

Rebels top Stephenville

SAN ANGELO — Three-time defending Class 5A state football champion Midland Lee built a 19-0 halftime lead and held on for a 25-7 victory over Class 4A powerhouse Stephenville Saturday night at San Angelo Stadium.

The Yellowjackets, ranked No. 5 in the state in Class 4A, didn’t score until Travis Robertson uncorked a 27-yard touchdown run in the final quarter.

The Rebels, ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 5A, got a pair of 1-yard touchdown runs from Clint Kile. Lee racked up 270 yards rushing, led by Freddie Jones with 16 carries for 91 yards.

Stephenville quarterback Kevin Kolb passed for 112 yards, completing 9 of 16 with one interception.
