Veteran radio personality dies

AUSTIN (AP) - Harvie Lee Jordan, a veteran in Austin radio and public relations spokesman, has died at an Austin hospital of natural causes.

Jordan, 59, died Friday.

In a career that spanned 35 years, Jordan worked for a number of radio stations, in public relations and started his own company, Harvie Jordan Communicates.

"He was an individual who was divinely focused," Harry Sockol, who worked with Jordan at KNOW Radio in the 1960s, said in a story in Monday's Austin American-Statesman.

"He knew exactly what he wanted to do and what needed to be done, and he was extremely consistent in the way he wrote and the way he delivered the news."

Jordan earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas. He began as a news reporter with the now-defunct KNOW radio in 1966. He worked for several other radio stations through 1977, including KVET/KASE and KTBC.

He later worked in public relations for the Texas Department of Agriculture and the Texas Department of Transportation.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home.
