Surfing the Web

By Doug Williamson / Business Editor

From tropical weather to Usamah Bin Mohammad Bin Laden, we look around the World Wide Web for intersting sites.

-- The Federal Emergency Management Agency's Storm Watch site at http://www.fema.gov/fema/trop.htm is a good starting point for hurricane information. It includes current satellite images, forecast maps, weather bulletins and information on how to survive a hurricane. Hopefully, we won't need that.

-- The University of Hawaii also has a great tropical storms site at http://www.solar.ifa.hawaii.edu/Tropical/tropical.html. It has good maps tracking current and past storms.

-- For an interesting look at indicted terrorist Usamah Bin Mohammad Bin Laden, check out a two-year-old interview with him in the Nida'ul Islam magazine at http://www.islam.org.au/articles/15/LADIN.HTM.

-- This next site is not normal, it is paranormal. Visit "the most haunted house in England" online at http://www.borleyrectory.com. The most interesting part is the Life magazine picture of a floating brick in the house.

-- I found this site through one of the search engine's picks of the week. It is "The Answering Machine." It has bunches of different voices and messages for your answering machine. It is at http://www.answeringmachine.co.uk/.

-- We haven't had a real trivia site in this column in several months. Try the Trivia Cafe for the trivia question of the day. I really like this site, because, it gives you the answer the same day. Look at it at http://www.triviacafe.com/ques(underscore)day.html.

-- Also on a daily basis, you should check out Dilbert's List of the Day at http://www.unitedmedia.com/comics/dilbert/lotd. It is an interactive site where you can vote to prioritize the list. Yesterday's list was the best fake meetings to tell co-workers they missed. Caution: some get a little adultish.
