ACU grad elected president of Texas Auctioneers

Pat Long of Brady is the new president of the Texas Auctioneers
Association.
He was elected at the TAA annual convention in San Antonio.
Long received his degree in banking and finance from Abilene
Christian University.
After his graduation at ACU, he worked as a loan officer in
the bank and savings and loan industry in Kaufmann for three years.
Long holds memberships in the TAA and also the National Auction
Association.
He previously served a two-year on the TAA board of directors.
In 1992, he became a TAA officer and this year, was elected president.
A versatile fellow
In 1995, Long won the distinguished title of "Texas State
Champion Auctioneer" in highly intense competition.
Long also is an instructor at the Texas Auction Academy in
Dallas.
He is a licensed auctioneer, realtor, charter pilot and a "part-time
country singer."
This guy is good.
An auctioneer since 1978, Long's auction career spans a wide
variety of auction specialties.
Long has ssold for Parch Davis International Auctioneers and
Colby Auctioneers International.
He has sold farms at auctions across North Texas with David
Catching and Long Auctioneers; worked and sold for John Deere
in Terrell; sold for Southwest Auction Company in Howe; and sold
for Montgomery Tractor Company in Seymour.
Also a livestock auctioneer
From birds to bulls -- Long has sold it.
Long has sold purebred livestock for the Polled Hereford Association,
and he has auctioned exotic livetock for the Tyler Exotic Dome.
He has moved real estate for both FDIC and RTC real estate
auctions and sold for Kennedy-Wilson Auctioneers.
Some of the more unusual auctions and items have included the
Will Rogers Ranch Action near Clearmore, Okla.; Gene Autry Hometown
Square Auction at Kiomatia in partnership with Mike Jones Auctioneers
-- and a saddle as part of a Waggoner Ranch Auction that brought
$100,000. The saddle now is on display in the Waggoner Museum.
In addition to his many honors, Long received the Mazada automobile
industry's "Mazda Auctioneer of the Year" accolades.
Long is currently employed by Mannheim Auto Auction Company
and is selling for Dealers Auction Auction, ADT Auto Auction,
and Adesa Auto Auction, Dallas.
He and his wife, Becky and htier five sons live at Brady. They
are member of the Brady Church of Christ and support many activities
in their communities.
District III 4-H Roundup Contests
Youths from 25 counties will compete on April 25 in the District
III 4-H Roundup Contests in Vernon.
Vernon Regional Junior College will host the 31 contests where
officials expect about 400 boys and girls in 4-H, along with paretns,
leaders and county agents of the Extension Service.
Judging begins at 10 a.m. -- covering subjects from beef to
natural resources -- with the awards ceremony slated for 1 p.m.
in the Wilbarger Memorial Auditorium.
The Roundup is a contest where 4-H members present a talk before
a panel of judges. It teaches youth qualities of leadership, self
confidence and thd ability to think on their feet.
