Friday, September 18, 1998 First in 1998 Cattlemen's Round-Up series fetches
$15,947 for Rehab By J.T. SMITH Farm Editor Despite tough times for drought-stricken ranchers, the 1998
Cattlemen's Round-Up for Rehab got off to a great start Thursday
with the first sale of the annual series at San Angelo. Producers Livestock Auction hosted the sale to benefit the
West Texas Rehabilitation Center with its campuses in Abilene
and San Angelo. When the dust settled, $15,947 was raised Thursday. When tacked
onto some pre-sale cash donations and cattle sold earlier, the
grand total of the 1998 Round-Up is $25,925 to date. Twenty-five cattle went through the ring, along with the traditional
"scaregoat" that has been a colorful part of the sale
for many years. The scaregoat sold and resold numerous times to
raise $4,454. The cattle averaged $377 per head. The next Round-Up sale is the traditional fall sale at Abilene
Livestock Auction on Sept. 29.
