Wednesday, October 28, 1998 U.S. CoC endorses Stenholm The U.S. Chamber of Commerce endorsed U.S. Rep. Charles Stenholm
Tuesday, citing his voting record on issues of interest to small
businesses. "Experience alone will not garner you the support of the
U.S. Chamber - it's what you do with that experience and what
you do with that seniority," said Paul Stranz, regional executive
director of the organization. "In the case of Congressman Stenholm, we have gone to
him time and time again with key business issues. We haven't always
agreed, but there have been issues that he's been out in front
on and has supported us." Stranz cited Stenholm's votes on the balanced budget amendment,
labor policies, compensatory time and trade issues. "Congressman Stenholm has served in Congress and served
well in support of U.S. Chamber business issues," he said. The organization is the nation's largest business group with
96 percent of its membership comprised of businesses with fewer
than 100 employees. The organization also gave Stenholm its "Spirit of Enterprise"
award. Stenholm is opposed by Republican candidate Rudy Izzard in
the 17th congressional district election.
