Friday, November 20, 1998 Texas Instruments to sell Italy plant, shut
Portuguese plant Texas Instruments Inc. said it will sell a plant in Aversa,
Italy, and close its semiconductor-assembly venture in Porto,
Portugal, a decision the company blames on the Asian economic
crisis. The shutting of the Portuguese operation, which is a joint
venture with South Korean company Samsung Electronics Co., will
result in the loss of 740 jobs. Texas Instruments said the closing of its Portuguese venture,
called Texas Instruments Samsung Electronica Portugal Lda., is
expected by March 31.
