Wednesday, February 25, 1998 Wylie and Jim Ned students get $10,000 for
breed champs at San Antonio By J.T. SMITH / Abilene Reporter-News SAN ANTONIO -- An Abilene-Wylie junior came through with the
Champion American Breeds and Crosses (ABC) Steer at the 1998 San
Antonio Livestock Show. Jason Holloway, a Taylor County 4-H'er, showed a heavyweight
American crossbred for the victory. Holloway's breed champion brought $10,000 in auction over the
weekend. Meanwhile, Dustin Winckler of Jim Ned FFA showed the Champion
Limousin steer. It also brought $10,000 in the sale. Winckler
is a junior at Jim Ned High in Tuscola. Jonathan Holloway, a seventh-grader at Wylie Junior High, also
made a big showing as he also placed another calf for a second
in its competition. Jonathan showed a Chianina. Charle Watts of Trent had a fourth-place Shorthorn. She is
a Taylor County 4-H'er and Trent fourth-grader. Her steer, which
weighed 1,176 pounds, brought $2.50 per pound to bring $2,940. A fifth-place Maine-Anjou shown by Justin Holloway sold for
$2 per pound. Justin, a 4-H'er like his brothers, is a freshman
at Wylie High. "Our kids didn't do badly," said Kyle Miller, assistant
Taylor County ag agent, Abilene. "In fact, they were outstanding."
