Cowboys use 8th overall pick for North Carolina's
Ellis
The Dallas Cowboys chose Greg Ellis, a 6-5, 281-pound defensive
lineman from North Carolina in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Ellis is reportedly a very agile lineman, having played varsity
basketball in college as well.
Wide receiver Randy Moss was still available, but Jerry Jones
and his staff obviously felt the big hole to plug was in the
defensive line.
Also, Ellis is reportedly of very good character and a proven
hard worker and team leader.
The Cowboys were also interested in Andre Wadsworth, a defensive
lineman from Florida State, but he went to Arizona as the third
pick. Grant Wistrom, another DL the Cowboys were eyeing, went
in the 6th pick to St. Louis.
Ellis is also quick, running a 4.89 40-yard dash.
His basketball experience has given him a vertical jump just
a half inch shy of a yard, making him a formidable kick and pass
blocking threat.
