Cowboys Quarterback Profiles
IRVING, Texas (AP) - Bio- graphical profiles of Jason Gar-
rett and Mike Quinn, the two quarterbacks on the Dallas Cow-
boys roster behind Troy Aikman, who will miss an estimated 4
to 8 weeks with a broken collar- bone:
JASON GARRETT
PERSONAL: Garrett was an all-league safety and quarterback
at University High School in Chagrin, Ohio, also lettering in
basketball and baseball. Born in Abington, Pa., to Cowboys scout
Jim Garrett. He has two brothers who are assistant coaches in
the NFL.
COLLEGE: Garrett earned a history degree at Princeton, where
he met his wife, Brill. He went undrafted in 1989 after his senior
season at Princeton.
PRO EXPERIENCE: In his sixth year with the Cowboys, Garrett
had appeared in 14 regular-season and two playoff games before
Sunday. He has two career starts.
HIGHLIGHTS: Garrett is best remembered for leading the Cowboys
to a Thanksgiving Day, come-from-behind victory over the Green
Bay Packers in 1994.
BEFORE COWBOYS: He worked his way onto the Cowboys roster
after a season on the Dallas practice squad and a season on the
New Orleans practice squad. Those were sandwiched around a coaching
stint at Princeton and short careers in both the Canadian Football
League and the World League of American Football.
MIKE QUINN
PERSONAL: Quinn was first-team all state and all-Greater Houston
selection during his senior year at Robert E. Lee High School.
COLLEGE: He was a walkon at Stephen F. Austin State University,
but went on to win all-Southland Football League honors. He finished
his career with 2,641 yards passing and a 48.6 percent completion
mark.
PRO EXPERIENCE: The Steelers all but conceded Quinn the No.
3 job behind Kordell Stewart and Mike Tomczak before camp began
this summer. He has a strong arm and is familiar with the offense
of first-year Dallas head coach Chan Gailey, who was Pittsburgh's
offensive coordinator before accepting the Cowboys job.
HIGHLIGHTS: Quinn, property of the Pittsburgh Steelers, prospered
last spring with the Duesseldorf Rhein Fire of NFL Europe, where
he was the league's top-rated quarterback.
BEFORE DALLAS: Quinn was 7-of-13 for 56 yards and was sacked
five times in the Steelers' last exhibition game on Aug. 29.
The Indianapolis Colts picked up Quinn after the Steelers waived
him on Aug. 31, and Quinn came to Dallas after the Colts released
him last Wednesday.
