Today's Obituaries (May 11, 1998)

Mrs. W.I. (Clara) Stephenson

COMANCHE - Mrs. W.I. (Clara) Stephenson, 91, died Saturday at a De Leon nursing home.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Comanche Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Van Christian and the Rev. Sherl Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Comanche.

Mrs. Stephenson was born in Norton and was a member of First Baptist Church. She married William Irving Stephenson in 1923 in Norton; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Durwood Stephenson of Comanche; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Comanche.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m.

James Ray Rycroft

SWEETWATER - James Ray Rycroft, 72, died Saturday at an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Dr. Joel McCoy officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.

Mr. Rycroft was born in Sweetwater and owned and operated Vending Varieties. He was a member of First Baptist Church, member and past president of Sweetwater Lions Club and a board member with Goodwill Industries, the city Board of Adjustments and the Texas Merchandise Vending Association. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a television repairman for six years and a certified Scuba diving instructor. He married Sarah Mae Richie in 1944 in Sweetwater.

Survivors include his wife of Sweetwater; two daughters, Sherry Foster of Paradise and Joyce Cole of Sweetwater; one brother, Edgar Rycroft of Sacramento, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association; any hospice; Sweetwater Lions Club; or to the donor's favorite charity.

Mabel George Tanner

RULE - Mabel George Tanner, 85, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, N.M., and formerly of Rule, died May 2.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Rule Cemetery with John Greeson officiating, directed by McCauley-Robison Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Tanner was born in Rule and graduated from Rule High School, Abilene Christian University and Texas Technological College. She taught home economics for several years and retired from the Army after many years as a weather observer. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ and a member of the African Violet Garden Club.

Survivors include one sister, Martha Pratt of Lubbock; and one nephew.

Memorials may be made to the African Violet Club of Albuquerque Garden Center, 10120 Lomas N.E., Albuquerque NM 87106; or the Albuquerque Christian Children's Home.

Homer Josselet

HASKELL - Homer Josselet, 80, died Saturday at a local nursing home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Shane Brue and John Sam Rike officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.

Homer was born in Haskell County, where he farmed for 50 years and delivered butane for 20 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of First United Methodist Church, where he had served as usher and was a longtime member and secretary-treasurer of Friendly Fellows Sunday school class. He was past president of Coachman's Camping Club. He married Jerry Rinehart in 1947 in Haskell.

Survivors include his wife of Haskell; three daughters, Judy (Mrs. Gary) Longfellow of Hoodsport, Wash., Cathy (Mrs. Robert) Bartley of Haskell and Sandy (Mrs. Bobby) Sanford of Weinert; one son, Van Josselet of Dalhart; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 201 N. Avenue F, Haskell 79521.

Saundra Jackson

SNYDER - Saundra Jackson, 21, died Sunday after a traffic accident between Roscoe and Hermleigh. Services are pending with Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Stella Camille Jackson

SNYDER - Stella Camille Jackson, 24, died Sunday after a traffic accident between Roscoe and Hermleigh. Services are pending with Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.

Regnald Earnest

BRECKENRIDGE - Regnald K. Earnest, 62, died Saturday in Sweetwater. Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Melton Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. in Bangs Cemetery in Bangs.

Cecil Roberts

Cecil L. Roberts, 49, died Sunday in Abilene. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Gene Kinser

CISCO - Gene Kinser, 56, died Sunday at his home. Services are pending with Kimbrough Funeral Home.
