Today's Obituaries (May 21, 1998)

Billie Ruth Jones McChristian

Billie Ruth Jones McChristian, 63, died Sunday at a local hospital.

Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Redeeming Love Faith Fellowship Church with the Rev. David S. Wells officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery, directed by Curtis-Starks Funeral Home, 542 E.N. 7th.

Mrs. McChristian was born in Abilene. She returned to Abilene in 1996 from California.

Survivors include one daughter, Anita Stevenson of Abilene.

Visitation will be from 5-7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Dovie Tucker

Dovie Tucker, 88, died Wednesday in a local nursing home.

A memorial service will be held in Ketchikan, Alaska. Local arrangements were made by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.

Mrs. Tucker grew up in Portales, N.M., and married R.C. Tucker in 1935 in Graton, Calif. She moved to Ketchikan, Alaska, in 1945 from Graton, Calif., and she and her husband helped build the first Church of Christ in Alaska. She moved to Abilene in 1985 and was a member of Baker Heights Church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter, Marian Colvin of Abilene; two sons, Phil Tucker of Seattle and Chris Tucker of Ketchikan, Alaska; two sisters, Elsie Pearl Davis of Sebastopol, Calif., and Josephine Seltzer of Juneau, Alaska; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Andy Booker Sr.

Andy Booker Sr., 66, died Monday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Bishop Elizabeth Ann Mooney, and Brian Harvey and Betty Engram officiating. Burial will be in Masonic Cemetery.

Mr. Booker was born in Abilene and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a mechanic and in maintenance for Carpenters Trucking Co. and McMurry University. He was a member of Armour of God Christian Center in Albuquerque, N.M.

Survivors include three sons, Stanley Booker, Andy Booker Jr. and Clinton Booker, all of Abilene; six daughters, Elizabeth Ann Mooney, Betty J. Buffington and Rene Booker Brito, all of Albuquerque, N.M., Kay Katherine Rivers of Long Beach, Calif., and Penny K. Booker and Virginia R. Williams, both of Abilene; one sister, Virginia Streat of Inglewood, Calif.; 24 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Luciano Reyna

Luciano F. Reyna, 53, died Sunday.

The body will be cremated. A memorial Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church with the Rev. David Matz officiating, directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.

Mr. Reyna was born in Edinburg and was a farmer. He was a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Janie Olivarez of Abilene; one son, Luciano Olivarez of Abilene; one daughter, Christina Olivarez of Houston; two brothers, Manuel Reyna and Mike Reyna, both of Merkel; six sisters, Soyla Hermosilla of Roscoe, Marina Rodriguez, Margarita Rodriguez, Marvella Juacques and Maxine Juarez, all of Abilene, and Maria Cuellar of Merkel.

Jerry Wayne Folsom

Jerry Wayne Folsom, 49, died Tuesday in a Big Spring hospital.

The body was cremated. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory.

Mr. Folsom was born in Marlin and attended Stamford High School. He moved to Abilene in 1964 from Stamford and served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He worked as a truck driver for Bandera Trucking and West-Tex Drilling Co. until retiring in 1990. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include two daughters, Gerri Denise Trombatone of Conroe and Lisa Michelle Nielsen of Seminole; two brothers, Howard Folsom and Emmit Folsom, both of Stamford; two sisters, Mary Wilson of Austin and Betty McFadden of Merkel; and three grandchildren.

Alda Leona 'Sammie' Cowan

CROSS PLAINS -- Alda Leona "Sammie" Cowan, 80, of Abilene, died Wednesday in an Abilene nursing home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eric Lovell officiating. Burial will be in Pioneer Cemetery.

Mrs. Cowan was born in Eastland County and was a homemaker. She was a member of Gospel Tabernacle and was the widow of Jimmie R. Cowan, whom she married in 1933 in Eastland County.

Survivors include one daughter, Bonnie Sheppard of Abilene; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will be at 301 Fishing Village Circle in Abilene.

Lucile Elizabeth Frazier

BROWNWOOD -- Lucile Elizabeth Frazier, 83, of Temple and formerly of Brownwood, died Tuesday in a Temple nursing home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Coggin Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Allen officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Mrs. Frazier was born in Pinkstaff, Ill., and graduated from Cisco High School. She was a homemaker. She lived in Brownwood for more than 50 years and moved to Temple in 1994. She was a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church in Brownwood and was the widow of William Marvin Frazier, whom she married in 1939 in Cisco.

Survivors include three daughters, Janis Fry of Temple, Celia Hudler of Fort Worth and Janie Stewart of San Angelo; one brother, John Julian Flaherty of Manchester, Conn.; four sisters, Louise Cullar of Abilene, Betty King of Pasadena, Mary Jean Pikkarainen of Grand Prairie and Lillian Sue Chadwick of Levelland; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Dossie Menn

SWEETWATER -- Dossie Menn was stillborn Tuesday in a Fort Worth hospital.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Babyland in Garden of Memories with Larry Fluitt officiating, directed by Fry-Bartlett Funeral Home of Tuscola.

Survivors include his parents, Jeff and Dawn Menn of Grapevine and formerly of Sweetwater; his grandparents, Donald and Joan Menn of Cuero andformerly of Sweetwater, and Charles and Sandra Garra of Amherst, Ohio; and his great-grandparents, Lewis and Evangeline Menn of Runge, and Lena Mae Smith of Tuscola.

Clarence 'Mac' McPherson

BROWNWOOD -- Clarence "Mac" McPherson, 73, died Tuesday in a local hospital.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R.D. Williams officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Mr. McPherson was born in Grand Saline and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Wanda Louise Uhlry in 1975 in Las Vegas, Nev., and was a retired concrete worker. He moved to Brownwood in 1997 and was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; two daughters, Dale Ann Brown of California and Lora Shipley of Riverside, Calif.; one son, Michael Stollings of Brownwood; and nine grandchildren.

Lela Latch Lloyd

CISCO -- Lela Latch Lloyd, 92, died Tuesday in an Eastland hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Cisco First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Turner and Dr. Joe Stamey officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lloyd was born in Eton, Ga., and graduated from Cisco High School, Cisco Junior College, Texas Wesleyan College and Scarrett University in Nashville, Tenn. She served with the Women's Army Corps and U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and married Emmett Carrol Lloyd in 1951 in Cisco. She taught school for 37 years, with 30 in Cisco and at Cisco Junior College. She had five books published and is listed in Who's Who Among American Women. She had an Alaska Homestead title and was a member of Cisco Writers Club. She taught Sunday school at First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years.

Survivors include one sister, Mary Carey of Talkeetna, Alaska; one brother, Bill Latch of Durango, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church or Conrad Hilton Community Center, both in Cisco.

Clay Brooks Graham

LORAINE -- Clay Brooks Graham, 70, lifelong local resident, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Loraine First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Loraine Cemetery, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home of Colorado City.

Mr. Graham was born in Comanche County and served with the U.S. Army. He married Shirley Preston in 1951 in Loraine and was a volunteer firefighter for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Loraine; one son, Ken Graham of Loraine; one daughter, Nancy Swindle of Sweetwater; one sister, Annie Browning of Loraine; three brothers, Bob Graham, Elwood Graham and Donald Graham, all of Loraine; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Loraine Volunteer Fire Department, West Texas Rehabilitation Center or American Diabetes Association.

William Buford Brown

SWEETWATER -- William Buford Brown, 89, formerly of Sylvester, died Wednesday in a local hospital. Services are pending with Weathersbee Funeral Home of Rotan.

Vicki Lea Cannon

AUSTIN -- Vicki Lea Cannon, formerly of Abilene, died Tuesday in Austin. Services are pending with Beck Funeral Home.

Jean Marie Stone

STEPHENVILLE -- Jean Marie Stone, 62, died Tuesday in a local nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Graham Street Church of Christ, directed by Lacy Funeral Home.

Jerry Don Stephens

BIG SPRING -- Jerry Don Stephens, 61, died Sunday in Hurst. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Salvation Army, directed by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Ralph Watson Garrett

STEPHENVILLE -- Ralph Watson Garrett, 70, died Tuesday in a Temple hospital. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in East End Cemetery, directed by Lacy Funeral Home.

Randi Jo Witte

BAIRD -- Randi Jo Witte, 17, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Baird High School auditorium, directed by Parker Funeral Home.

Larry Alan Kitterman

STEPHENVILLE -- Larry Alan Kitterman, 51, died Tuesday in a local hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Indian Creek Cemetery, directed by Lacy Funeral Home.

Louis Johnson

BALLINGER -- Louis Johnson, 59, died Tuesday at his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Community of Faith Church, directed by Rains-Seale Funeral Home.
