Effie Clemmer
Effie L. Clemmer, 91, died Sunday at a local nursing home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral
Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory. Graveside services will
be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Merriman Cemetery with the Revs. James
Zug and Chris Diebel officiating.
Ms. Clemmer was born in Eastland County, where she attended
school. She was a retired sales clerk for Minter's, Grissom's
and Thornton's. She moved to Abilene from Ranger in 1941 and was
a member of First Christian Church. She was a member of Eastern
Star for at least 60 years. She married Carl Brock Clemmer in
1934 in Baird; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Lester Clemmer of Rowlett and Buford
Clemmer of Long Beach, Calif.; two daughters, Arritta Bruton of
Abilene and Phyllis Harper of Baytown; one sister, Velma Morris
of Eastland; 16 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and seven
great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church Building Fund,
1420 N. 3rd, Abilene 79601.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.
Edna (Mrs. L.B.) Wells
COLEMAN - Edna (Mrs. L.B.) Wells, 93, died Saturday at an Abilene
nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Coleman Cemetery
with the Rev. Gary Boyd officiating, directed by Stevens Funeral
Home.
Mrs. Wells was born in Crockett and grew up and graduated from
high school in Bartlett. She graduated from Seaton Hospital Nursing
School in Austin and was a registered nurse for many years at
Overall-Morris Memorial Hospital (now Coleman County Medical Center).
She was Coleman County school nurse for a number of years. She
had lived in Coleman since 1944 and was a member of First Baptist
Church. She married L.B. Wells in 1932 in Litton Springs; he preceded
her in death.
Survivors include three daughters, JoAnn Hale of Coleman, Jackie
Jennings of Abilene and Billie Blake of Garland; one son, Bozie
Wells of Glen Rose; two brothers, Billy Tittle of Lewisville and
Ray Tittle of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; four sisters, Mary Jo Minnox
of College Station, Evelyn Greer of Forney, Olive Tepper of Rowlett
and Merle Young of Little Rock, Ark.; 12 grandchildren and 21
great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Muscular Dystrophy, the American Heart
Association or the donor's favorite charity.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Molly Pearl Gage
KNOX CITY - Molly Pearl Gage, 97, of Lake Charles, La., died
Sunday at a Lake Charles hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Knox City Church of
Christ with Travis Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Knox County
Cemetery, directed by Smith Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gage lived in Comanche County and Knox City before moving
to Lake Charles 10 years ago.
Survivors include one daughter, Dortha Carlile of Lake Charles;
four brothers, Sam Lusk of Haskell, Fred Lusk of Cleburne and
Norman Lusk and Calvin Lusk, both of Abilene; one sister, Marie
Darr of Knox City; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Dorothy Mae Lawrence
BROWNWOOD - Dorothy Mae Lawrence, 71, of Little River and formerly
of Brownwood, died Friday in Little River.
Services were Saturday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel
with the Revs. Dennis Moodey and Kyle Horton officiating. Burial
was in Eastlawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Lawrence was born in Breckenridge and was a homemaker
and a member of First Baptist Church of Little River. She married
Euless Lawrence in 1949 in Brownwood.
Survivors include her husband, of Little River; four sons,
William Thomas of Frisco, Mark Lawrence of Little River and Otis
Lawrence and Ronald Lawrence, both of Brownwood; two daughters,
Ellen Lawrence of Roseburg, Ore., and Carolyn Parker of El Reno,
Okla.; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Jessie Kirk Tackett
BROWNWOOD - Jessie Kirk Tackett, 55, of Liberty died Tuesday
in Liberty.
Graveside services were Sunday in Eastlawn Memorial Park with
the Rev. R.J. Elkins officiating, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral
Home.
Mr. Tackett was born in Brown County and graduated from Grand
Falls Royalty High School. He was a military veteran, a construction
worker and a member of Union United Methodist Church in Grand
Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Valerie Tackett of Liberty; his
mother, Eloise Tackett of Alpine; one sister, Georgina Rinehart
of Alpine; five daughters, Elisa Rankin of Uvalde, Angela Hegstrom
of Lubbock, Jennifer of Liberty, Nicole and Jessica; two sons,
Jared Jewkes of El Paso and Jeremy; four grandchildren, two nieces
and numerous cousins.
Rachel Virginia 'Bobbye' Perkins
EARLY - Rachel Virginia "Bobbye" Perkins, 69, of
Ebony in Mills County died Saturday at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Heartland Funeral
Home Chapel with Liniel Click officiating. Burial will be in Ebony
Cemetery.
Ms. Perkins was born in Burkburnett and attended school in
Brownwood, where she lived most of her life until moving to Ebony
in 1973. She was a bookkeeper for several years and, with her
husband, owned Southwest Appliances. She was a rancher and a charter
member of Ladies Elks of Brownwood. She was a member of Ebony
Community Ladies Club, Ebony Quilting Club and the Baptist church.
She married Edwin Glen Perkins in 1967 in Brownwood.
Survivors include her husband, of Ebony; one son, Ray Mazurek
of Ebony; one stepson, Randy Perkins of Ebony; two stepdaughters,
Pam Hohertz of Priddy and Brenda Beeler of Austin; one brother,
Alfred Chambers of Coleman; one sister, Jo Ann (Mrs. James) Teague
of Brownwood; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Johnnie Mae Hearn
EASTLAND - Johnnie Mae Hearn, 87, died Saturday at a local
hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Long Branch
Cemetery with the Rev. Dwayne Clower officiating, directed by
Bakker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hearn was born, grew up and went to school in Eastland
County. She lived in Lubbock 15 years before returning to Eastland
in the late 1970s. She married Thomas Hearn in 1928 in Carbon.
Survivors include three daughters, Chalene Haggard and Doris
Hadaway, both of Carbon, and Viola Byrom of Midland; three sons,
Henry Hearn of Lubbock, Tommy Hearn of Midland and Charles Hearn
of Beaumont; one sister, Inez Goodlett of Fort Worth; one brother,
Vernon Walker of Eastland; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren
and great-great-grandchildren.
John 'Jack' White
HAMLIN - John H. "Jack" White, 93, died Sunday at
his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church
with the Revs. Tracy Watson and Bill Crump officiating. Burial
will be in Hamlin East Cemetery, directed by Foster-Adams Funeral
Home.
Mr. White was born in Brown County and attended rural county
schools. He lived in Comanche County until moving to Hamlin in
1933. He was a member of First Baptist Church and served in the
Hamlin Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years; he was former fire
chief. He married Lillie Mae Ethridge in 1922 in Brown County;
she preceded him in death.
Survivors include one son, C.L. White of Hamlin; three daughters,
Helen Thompson of Hamlin, Mary Lee Carper of Riverside, Calif.,
and Bobbie Lippe of Lubbock; 14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren
and eight great-great-grandchildren.
William Roberson
ASPERMONT - William Roberson, 69, died Saturday in Burnet.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Aspermont Cemetery,
directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
Bulah Odessa Barnett
BIG SPRING - Bulah Odessa Barnett, 95, died Saturday in Big
Spring. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith
Funeral Home Chapel.
Jose Ortega Sr.
BIG SPRING - Jose B. Ortega Sr., 62, died Saturday at a Mid-
land hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 10
a.m. Tuesday at Crossroads Church, directed by Myers & Smith
Funeral Home.
Lenard Edgerton
BIG SPRING - Lenard Edgerton, 72, died Saturday at a local
hospital after a lengthy illness. Graveside services will be at
2 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Olive Memorial Park, directed by Myers
& Smith Funeral Home.
Gloria Jean Stanford
DE LEON - Gloria Jean Stanford, 57, died Saturday at a local
nursing home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Nowlin Funeral
Home Chapel.
