D.L. Fenter
D.L. Fenter, formerly of Odessa, died Monday at a local hospital.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hillcrest
Church of Christ Chapel with Dwight Robarts, Norm Archibald, Bill
Luttrell, Johnny Ramsey and Burt Groves officiating. Burial will
be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Anson, directed by Elliott-Hamil
Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Fenter was born in Jones County, graduated from Anson High
School and attended Abilene Christian University. He was a self-employed
accountant in Odessa, where he lived from 1947 until moving to
Abilene in 1996. He was a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ
and had been a deacon and elder of 21st and Eisenhower Church
of Christ in Odessa for 42 years. He was a Navy veteran of World
War II. He married Bettye Ruth Harris in 1944 in Dallas.
Survivors include his wife of Abilene; three daughters, Betty
Sue Baker of Houston, Cathy Shipley of Allen and Lee Anna Ladyman
of Abilene; and six grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.
Robert Pieper
Robert Pieper, 70, of Abilene died Monday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Vance Roberts officiating. Burial will be
in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home,
542 Hickory.
Mr. Pieper was born in Coryell County and graduated from high
school in Pyron, Scurry County. He moved to Abilene from Hermleigh
in 1959. He was a self-employed production consultant and had
been production superintendent for 15 years with Harkins Oil and
Gas. He worked for Fischer/Webb for eight years. He was an Army
veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of Grace United Methodist
Church. He married Mary Joyce Lopour in 1952 in Hermleigh.
Survivors include his wife of Abilene; one son, David Duane
Pieper of Abilene; one daughter, Jennifer Joyce Johnson of Mesquite;
four brothers, Delmond Pieper of Roscoe, Arthur Lee Pieper of
Inadale, Carl Pieper of Clyde and Travis Pieper of Midland; two
sisters, Velma Faye Nader of Fort Worth and Jewel Harris of Boise,
Idaho; and three grandchildren.
Bill Mason
BURKBURNETT - Bill Mason, 64, formerly of Abilene, died Sunday
at a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bethel Cemetery
at Funston with the Rev. Jim Smithee officiating, directed by
Owens & Brumley Funeral Home.
Mr. Mason was born in Citronelle, Ala., and had lived in Burkburnett
since 1996. He retired after 30 years in the U.S. Army and was
a Baptist. He married Lola Faye Roberts in 1961; she preceded
him in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Baker of Burkburnett
and Shirri Chamberlain and Melissa Runnels, both of Abilene; two
sons, Ronald Mason of Abilene and William "Bill" Mason
of New Caney; two brothers, James Mason and Wayne Mason, both
of Citronelle; two sisters, Gloria Cunningham of Mobile, Ala.,
and Jean Connell of Citronelle; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Nina Mae Hamilton
COMANCHE - Nina Mae Hamilton, 92, of Brownwood died Monday
at a Brownwood hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Eastlawn Memorial
Park in Early with Dr. Norbert Peil officiating, directed by Hall
& Sons Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hamilton was born in Hubbard and was a homemaker and a
Presbyterian. She married Howard Walter Hamilton in 1927; he preceded
her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean Willingham of Grandview
and Bettye Davis of Dallas; one sister, Mary Knox Anderson of
Hubbard; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Children's Home in
Itasca.
Joe Little
ROTAN - Joe Little, 91, died Monday at a local care center.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with
the Rev. Werth Mayes officiating. Burial will be in Belvieu Cemetery,
directed by Weathersbee Funeral Home.
Mr. Little was born in Hope, Ark., and was a farmer and a member
of First Baptist Church. He married Lometa Pearl Silver in 1929
in Morgan Mill; she preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Janel Holcomb of McCaulley
and Gay Pugh of Denton; three sisters, Irene Mounce of Fort Worth
and Ruby Lee Gee and Maxine Threatt, both of Euless; one brother,
Kyle Little of Lubbock; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren
and one great-great-grandchild.
D.H. 'Doc' Powers
ASPERMONT - D.H. "Doc" Powers, 76, died Monday at
his home.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Central Baptist Church
with the Rev. Lawrence Ballou officiating, assisted by the Rev.
Jack Lusk. Burial will be in Aspermont Cemetery, directed by McCoy
Funeral Home.
Mr. Powers was born in Duke, Okla., and was a retired farmer
and rancher. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member
of Central Baptist Church. He married Juanita Cochran in 1946
in Rotan.
Survivors include his wife of Aspermont; one son, Jesse Powers
of Aspermont; one foster son, Mike Smith of Ocatillo, Calif.;
two daughters, Nita Isbell and Pam Radde, both of Sterling City;
three brothers, Tom Powers and Ray Powers, both of Duncan, Okla.,
and Robert Powers of Kermit; four sisters, Irene Pyle of Lawton,
Okla., Juanita Vaughn of Elk City, Okla., Arnetta Cochran of Aspermont
and Jewel Pack of Roby; and four grandchildren.
Lavina Elizabeth Day
EARLY - Lavina Elizabeth Day, 94, of Arlington and formerly
of Brownwood, died Sunday at an Arlington hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Eastlawn
Memorial Park with the Rev. R.J. Elkins officiating, directed
by Heartland Funeral Home.
Mrs. Day was born in Lipan and lived in Brownwood before moving
to Arlington 13 years ago. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
She was the widow of Fred Day.
Survivors include one son, Bennie Lewis of Arlington; two stepsons,
Lavaughn Day of Brownwood and Floyd Day of Granbury; one stepdaughter,
Laverne Ray of Brownwood; two brothers, Buell Privitt of Lubbock
and Ernie Privitt of San Antonio; two sisters, Bernice Day of
Granbury and Cleta Faye Day of Fort Worth; and many grandchildren
and great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. today.
Mrs. Carson (Whittie) Walters
COLEMAN - Mrs. Carson (Whittie) Walters, 85, died Monday at
a local care center.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Windham
Cemetery in Brown County, directed by Henderson Funeral Home.
Mrs. Walters was born and raised in Brown County and attended
Byrd's Store school. She lived in the Panhandle before moving
to Coleman in 1969. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She married
Carson Walters in 1929 in May; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include six sons, Lee Walters, Mackie Walters and
Leslie Walters, all of Coleman, Billy Walters of Lake Brownwood,
Truman Walters of Sunray and Cecil Walters of Hawley; five daughters,
Molly Davis and Mary Davis, both of Kermit, Sherry Nations of
Gilmer, Neomi Strouce of Weston, W.Va., and Patricia Henderson
of Coleman; one sister, Lois Meador of Lake Brownwood; one brother,
Dee Tabor of Amarillo; 64 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren
and six great-great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. today.
Lee McClure
McCAMEY - Lee K. McClure, 87, died Monday at a local convalescent
center.
Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Graford
Cemetery in Graford, directed by Richard W. Box Funeral Home.
Mr. McClure was born in Graford and retired in 1971 after 40
years with Amoco Oil Company. He lived in Graford, Albany, Snyder
and several other locations before moving to Haskell in 1953.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Haskell. He
married Ola Mae Smart in 1933 in Waurika, Okla.
Survivors include his wife of McCamey; one son, Jimmy Lee McClure
of McCamey; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild.
Conrad Neal Clark
EASTLAND - Conrad Neal Clark, 66, of Eastland and formerly
of Cisco, died Monday at a Fort Worth hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Edwards Funeral Home
Chapel.
Mr. Clark was born in Gatesville and moved to Hereford as a
teen-ager. He graduated from high school in Hereford and moved
to Clovis, N.M., where he worked for Sears Roebuck Co. and Cookbook
Bread. He later farmed and worked in gins and homebuilding in
the Texas Panhandle and New Mexico. He moved to Cisco in 1975
and worked for the Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation,
retiring in 1987. He moved to Eastland in 1996 and was a member
of the Church of Christ. He married Charlotte Smith in 1977 in
Eastland.
Survivors include his wife of Eastland; three daughters, Pam
Lockmiller of Texico, N.M., K'Dawn Scroggins of Alamogardo, N.M.,
and Susan Moore of Stephenville; his mother, Adell Clark of Dimmitt;
one brother, Jerry Clark of Battleground, Mich.; one sister, Barbara
McDermitt of Mancos, Colo.; five grandchildren and numerous aunts
and uncles.
Verna Lee Hill
Verna Lee Hill, 83, died Monday at her home. Services are pending
with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Ida Flores
BIG SPRING - Ida Flores, 76, died Saturday at a local hospital
after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today
at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, directed by Myers & Smith
Funeral Home.
Vernon Houck
Vernon V. Houck, 81, died Monday at a local hospital. Services
are pending with North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.
