Today's Obituaries (June 8, 1998)

Jessie Jewel Foster

CLYDE - Jessie Jewel Foster, 94, died Tuesday in a local nursing home.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Skaggs officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene.

Mrs. Foster was born in Mabank, and she and her husband were farmers for many years. She also was a homemaker. She lived in Elmdale, Rowden, Blanket and Cross Plains before moving to Clyde in 1996. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was the widow of Charles Hiram Foster, whom she married in 1919 in Cross Plains.

Survivors include two sons, Charles Foster and Gene Foster, both of Clyde; one daughter, Golda Huston of Austin; three brothers, L.G. Akins of Eastland, C.H. Akins of Houston and R.J. Akins of Brownwood; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Oather Cleo Poe

KNOX CITY - Oather Cleo Poe, 78, died Saturday at his home.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at O'Brien Baptist Church with the Revs. Vergil Ichtertz and Bill Trice officiating. Burial will be in Knox City Cemetery, directed by Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Poe was born in Perry, Ark., and moved to Knox County as a child. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of O'Brien Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and secretary for 42 years. He married Hope Duncan in 1940 in Knox City.

Survivors include his wife of Knox City; one daughter, Bonnie Peysen of Knox City; two brothers, Theodore Poe of Italy, Texas, and Don Poe of Katy; four sisters, Leona Raby and Betty Poe, both of Knox City, Mary Reddelle of Seminole and Edith Broach of Lubbock; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Texoma Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Ethel Sego

HASKELL - Ethel Sego, 92, died Saturday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Turner and Dusty Garison officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sego was born in Camel and was a longtime Haskell resident. She had lived in Matson, Lone Star, Roby and Curry Chapel. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She married Hubert Sego in 1926 in Haskell; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include four daughters, Joyce Davis and Flora Pace, both of Haskell, Mary Francis Rhoads of Munday and Frankie Alvis of Odessa; one brother, Frank Bledsoe of Hobbs, N.M.; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Ann Russom

MERKEL - Mary Ann Russom, 92, died Sunday at an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with Jerry Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.

Mrs. Russom was born in Mulberry Canyon and graduated from Merkel High School and McMurry College. She taught school at Spur for two years and was a farmer and a rancher. She was a charter member of Pioneer Memorial United Methodist Church and church secretary for 35 years. She was a 4-H leader and a supporter of Merkel FFA. She was a charter member of Taylor Electric and Mulberry Canyon Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of Blue Bonnet Home Demonstration Club. She was past president of Merkel Garden Club. She married Tom Houston Russom in 1929 in Buffalo Gap; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Donald Russom of Merkel, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Pioneer Memorial United Methodist Church, 7302 FM 126, Merkel 79536; or Camp Butman, 158 C.R. 674, Merkel 79536.

Elsie Woodrum

Elsie L. Woodrum, 94, died Sunday at a local nursing home. Services are pending with North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.

Gertie Bell Bingham

DE LEON - Gertie Bell Bingham, 85, died Sunday at a local hospital. Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Nowlin Funeral Home chapel.

Jimmie Faye (Steele) Cogburn

DUBLIN - Jimmie Faye (Steele) Cogburn, 69, died Saturday in Fort Worth. Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Harrell Funeral Home Memorial Chapel.

James Cate

James P. Cate, 69, died Sunday at a local hospital. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Patricia Lindsey Harrison

BIG SPRING - Patricia Lindsey Harrison, 67, of Coahoma died Saturday at her home. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Trinity Memorial Park, directed by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Don Smith

ANSON - Don Smith, 61, died Sunday at a Wichita Falls hospital. Services are pending with Lawrence-Adams Funeral Home.

Jewell Nipp

BIG SPRING - Jewell Nipp of Mansfield and formerly of Big Spring died Saturday. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home Chapel.

Barbara Johnson

BIG SPRING - Barbara Johnson of Coahoma died Thursday after a traffic accident near Fort Worth. Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Myers & Smith Funeral Home Chapel.
