LaVaughn Self
LaVaughn Self, 69, died Tuesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in North's Funeral Home
Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange, with the Rev. Maurice Self officiating.
Burial will be in Newman Cemetery.
Mrs. Self was born in Oklahoma and grew up in West Texas. She
graduated from Texas Tech University and married James D. Self
in 1954 in Lubbock. She worked at Cox Memorial Hospital, St. Ann's
Hospital, Rolling Plains Hospital in Sweetwater and for 15 years
as a dietician at Hendrick Hospital until retiring in 1968.
Survivors include her husband of Abilene; one daughter, Glynnice
LaFaunne Self of Abilene; and one sister, Wanda Dishroon of Odessa.
Zilla Agnew
Zilla R. Agnew, 88, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral
Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South, with the Rev. Gene
Kreig officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Gap Cemetery.
Mrs. Agnew was born in Iberis in Taylor County and attended
school in Cisco. She was a homemaker and worked for Boss Manufacturing
Co. in Cisco for several years and the Abilene State School until
retiring. She was a member of American Association of Retired
Persons and Bible Baptist Church and was the widow of William
Lester Agnew, whom she married in 1929 in Cisco.
Survivors include three sons, L.C. Agnew of Abilene, Ray Agnew
of Cisco and Benny Lee Agnew of Billings, Mont.; two daughters,
Margie Green of Cisco and Martha Sue Day of Midland; two brothers,
Macon Adams and Hubert Johnson, both of Abilene; two sisters,
Zenie Belle Lauderdale of Waco and Estelle Tomlinson of Tucson,
Ariz.; 30 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.

Luke Alexander McCurdy
LANCASTER, Calif. -- Luke Alexander McCurdy, 38, relative of
six Abilene residents, died Thursday in a California hospital.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at 1302 Cedar
in Abilene.
Mr. McCurdy was born in Florida and moved to California in
1996. He worked with the homeless and was a Catholic.
Survivors include his mother, Lucretia Ellis of Abilene; five
sisters, Donna Rhone, Grace Montes, Mary Rolin, Lucretia McCurdy
and Brenda Ramsey, all of Abilene; four brothers, Daniel McCurdy
and Larry McCurdy, both of Jeannette, Pa., Mark McCurdy of Oklahoma
and Floyd McCurdy Jr. of Dallas; and six nieces and 11 nephews.
Marguerite Turner Griffin
BALTIMORE, Md. -- Marguerite Turner Griffin, 89, formerly of
Abilene, died January 15 in Baltimore.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Cedar Hill
Cemetery in Abilene with the Rev. Scott Meyer officiating.
Mrs. Griffin was born in Abilene and graduated from Abilene
High School in 1926. She attended Hardin-Simmons University and
Sul Ross College in Alpine. She taught school in one-room schoolhouses
in West Texas, including the Guy Cowden and Midkiff ranches near
Midland. She retired to Maryland's Eastern Shore in 1972. She
was a relief organist at Mary's Episcopal Church in Tyaskin, Md.,
and was the widow of John B. Griffin, whom she married in 1937.
Survivors include three sons, John B. Griffin Jr., James Griffin
and Peter Griffin, all of Baltimore; three grandchildren; and
one cousin.
Claude Holcomb
PASADENA -- Claude Holcomb, 91, father of a Snyder resident,
died Tuesday in Pasadena.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Griffin-Roughton Funeral
Home Chapel in Corsicana. Burial will be at I.O.O.F. Cemetery
in Denton.
Mr. Holcomb was born in Taylor and formerly lived in Corsicana.
He was a minister at North Beaton Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Edwina Holcomb; one son, Tom Holcomb
of Snyder; two daughters, Frances Armour of Dallas and Mary Nell
Hasty of Pasadena; three stepsons, Rennie Schackmann of La Porte,
Randy Schackmann of Burbank, Calif., and Rodney Schackmann of
Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Estelle Leach
CISCO -- Estelle Leach, 80, died Monday in a local nursing
home after a short illness.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Redeemer Lutheran
Church with Martin Kaufmann officiating. Burial will be in Eastland
City Cemetery, directed by Chambers-Wilcox Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Leach was born in Shiner and moved to Eastland in 1952.
She was a homemaker and also worked in the elementary cafeteria
for the Eastland school district for many years. She was a member
of Morton Valley Home Demonstration Club and moved to Cisco in
1983. She was secretary of the Women's Missionary League at Redeemer
Lutheran Church and was the widow of Lyman "Jack" Leach.
Survivors include four sons, Lyman Leach Jr. of Sweetwater,
Kenneth Leach of Houston, David Leach of Seattle and Don Leach
of Cisco; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Redeemer Lutheran Church, Lutheran
Hour or a favorite charity.
Visitation will be from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Lena Mae Musick, 81, died Wednesday in a local hospital. Services
are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

STEPHENVILLE -- The Rev. Julian Douglas Thomas, 77, of Dallas,
died Tuesday in a local nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m.
Friday in White Rock Methodist Church in Dallas, directed by Stephenville
Funeral Home.
