Fannie Ragland Bennett
Fannie Ragland Bennett, 100, died Thursday in a local nursing
home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Allen-Korzenewski Funeral
Home Chapel, 1443 N. 2nd, with the Revs. Kathryn Boren and Archie
Echols officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. in Burkett
Cemetery.
Mrs. Bennett was born in Cross Plains and moved in a covered
wagon to Matador in 1915 from Brown County. She was a Methodist
and also was a member of Elm Street Church of Christ in Coleman.
She was the widow of John C. Ragland, whom she married in 1914;
Roy Rice, whom she married in 1945; Will Turner, whom she married
in 1953 in Valera; and Roy Bennett, whom she married in 1974.
Survivors include two sons, V.L. Ragland of Abilene and John
J. Ragland of Houston; two daughters, Evelyn Henderson of Weatherford
and Ruby Chambers of Westbrook; 13 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren;
21 great-great-grandchildren; six stepchildren; several step grandchildren
and step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth Loyd
CLYDE -- Ruth E. Loyd, 71, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Hamby Cemetery
with the Rev. Rufus Wilson officiating, directed by Bailey Funeral
Home.
Mrs. Loyd was born in Taylor County near Abilene and worked
as an elderly caregiver. She moved to Clyde in 1989 from Grants,
N.M. She was a Baptist and was the widow of Carrol Oliver Loyd,
whom she married in 1946 in Miami, Ariz.
Survivors include one son, James Loyd of Baird; and one brother,
Richard Morris Massey of Hawley.
Vera Moore Wilson
SEYMOUR -- Vera Moore Wilson, 92, formerly of Taylor County,
died Thursday in Early.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Seymour Church of Christ
with Bud Branson officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery,
directed by Seymour Memorial Funeral Home.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Blair in Taylor County and was a homemaker.
She moved in 1928 to Red Springs in Baylor County, where she farmed
for many years until moving to Seymour. She was a member of the
Church of Christ and was the widow of Jesse B. Wilson, whom she
married in 1924 in Abilene.
Survivors include one daughter, Johnnye Sears of Zephyr; one
son, Jesse Earl Wilson of Seymour; three grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren.
Alva 'Peat' Field
BANGS -- Alva "Peat" Field, 92, lifelong Brown County
resident, died Friday in a Brownwood nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home
Chapel in Brownwood with the Rev. R.J. Elkins officiating. Burial
will be in Fairview Cemetery in Grosvenor.
Mr. Field was born in Grosvenor and was a farmer and rancher.
He was a Methodist.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
James Cheney
SWEETWATER -- James N. Cheney, 77, died Friday in a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Sweetwater Cemetery
with the Rev. David Edwards officiating, directed by McCoy Funeral
Home.
Mr. Cheney was born in Mindenmines, Mo., and married Iona Woolsey
in 1940 in Lamesa. He moved to Sweetwater in 1950 and was a retired
oilfield worker. He was a member of Men's Downtown Bible Class.
Survivors include his wife, of Sweetwater; one son, Tom Cheney
of Sweetwater; one sister, Alice Oliver of Enid, Okla.; one brother,
Alvin Cheney of Slaton; and two grandchildren.
Sarah Byers Brinkley
COLEMAN -- Sarah Byers Brinkley, 84, died Thursday in a Kerrville
nursing home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Presbyterian Church
with the Rev. Jeff Robinett officiating. Burial will be in Coleman
Cemetery, directed by Stevens Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brinkley was born in Coleman, where she lived for many
years. She graduated from Coleman High School, John Tarleton College
in 1934, and with a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas
in 1936. She formerly taught school in Raymondsville and returned
to Coleman in 1975. She was a former member of a hospital auxiliary
and American Association of Retired Persons. She delivered Meals
on Wheels. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was
the widow of Charles B. Brinkley, whom she married in 1938.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Anderson of Kerrville
and Catherine Petru of Sugarland; one son, Charles Richard Brinkley
of Valencia, Calif.; one sister, Jana Greenway of San Angelo;
four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
Gary Leroy Walker
ROSCOE -- Gary Leroy Walker, 60, of Bonham and formerly of
Roscoe, died Thursday in Bonham.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Roscoe Cemetery
with Dr. Rick Willis officiating, directed by McCoy Funeral Home
of Sweetwater.
Mr. Walker was born in Roscoe, where he graduated from high
school, and worked at U.S. Gypsum for two years. He was a member
of Bonham Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sisters, Faye Cole of Pawleys Island,
S.C., and Maye Adkins and Daline Scott, both of Midland; and several
nieces and nephews.
Leona Alma Spivey
BRONTE -- Leona Alma Spivey, 83, died Friday in a local nursing
home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Fairview Cemetery,
directed by Shaffer Funeral Home.
Mrs. Spivey was born in Maverick and was a homemaker. She lived
in Cottonwood for many years until returning to Bronte in 1976.
She was a Methodist and was the widow of Slim Spivey, whom she
married in 1936 in San Angelo.
Survivors include one son, Larry Spivey of Blackwell; five
brothers, R.W. Bowman of San Angelo, Virgil Bowman and Ben Bowman,
both of Ballinger, Melvin Bowman of Hearne and W.C. Bowman; two
sisters, Alta Lawdermilk of Ballinger and Dorene Edborg of San
Angelo; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
Virginia Allen Pickrell
RANGER -- Virginia Allen Pickrell died Friday in a Fort Worth
hospital.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Ranger First
United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jack Hopkins and Carter
Croft officiating. A second service will be at 2 p.m. in St. Andrews
Episcopal Church in Breckenridge with the Rev. Carter Croft officiating,
directed by Edwards Funeral Home.
Mrs. Pickrell was born in Corpus Christi and graduated from
Corpus Christi High School and Swanthmore College in Philadelphia.
She married David Pickrell II in 1978 in Ranger and was a rancher.
She was a homemaker. She was working on a master's degree at Southern
Methodist University at the time of her death and was a member
of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Breckenridge.
Survivors include her husband, of Ranger; one stepson, David
Pickrell III of Sweetwater; one stepdaughter, Annette Barfield
of Anson; one sister, Betty Lee Gailey of Jollia, Calif.; three
step grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to Ranger and Breckenridge Volunteer
Fire departments and the organ fund at St. Andrews Episcopal Church
in Breckenridge.
Jeremiah Phillip Price
Jeremiah Phillip Price, 9-month-old infant, died Friday in
a Fort Worth hospital. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil
Funeral Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South.
Paul Casady
Paul C. Casady, 74, died Friday in a local hospital. Services
are pending with Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 U.S. Hwy 277 South.
Dr. Rita Naredo
Dr. Rita M. Naredo, 88, died Friday in a local hospital. Services
are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Anna Proctor
BIG SPRING -- Anna Proctor, 81, died Friday at her home. Services
