George Edward Stowe

George Edward Stowe, 92, a longtime Abilene resident, former city councilman and for 23 years business manager and assistant superintendent for the Abilene Independent School System, died Sunday at a local care center.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Jim Zug and Dr. Chris Diebel officiating. Private graveside services will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mr. Stowe was born in Waco and moved to Abilene in 1920. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1924 and attended Hardin-Simmons University. He graduated from Texas Christian University with a bachelor's degree in 1928 and from HSU with a master's degree in 1939. He was administrator for Ballinger schools and was with Mertzon and El Paso schools for 16 years. He returned to Abilene in 1949 and retired from AISD in 1972. He was a member of First Christian Church, where he was deacon and elder, Masonic Lodge and Shriners. He was past president of Texas School Business Association and a former member of Abilene Kiwanis Club. He married Geneva Karr in 1936 in Brownwood.

Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two daughters, Cyrena McMurry of Little Elm and Loralei Tuckness of Amarillo; one brother, J.H. Stowe of Abilene; one sister, Sarah Hoffius of Hot Springs, Ark.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Wilma Darlene Andrews

Wilma Darlene Andrews, 67, of Abilene died Sunday at a Colorado City hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Elmwood Memorial Park with the Rev. H.B. Terry Jr. officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mrs. Andrews was born in Bradshaw, where she graduated from high school. She lived in Abilene most of the rest of her life and was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She married Floyd Glenn "Andy" Andrews in 1948 in Abilene; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Randy Andrews of Dallas and Jerry Andrews of Abilene; one daughter, Cindy Landreth of Rule; two brothers, Allen Jones of Abilene and Jerry Jones of Fort Worth; one sister, Peggy Shumaker of Colorado City; and four grandchildren.

Thelma Fern Ballard

Thelma Fern Ballard, 56, died Friday at her home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Abilene Municipal Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mrs. Ballard was born in Lovington, N.M., and attended school in Snyder before moving to Abilene in 1959. She attended one year of college in Abilene and worked as a cook and waitress at Campbell's Cafe until it closed. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.

Survivors include three sons, Jeff Ballard, David Ballard and Mitchell Ballard, all of Abilene; her mother, Winnie Brady Brewer of Funston; two brothers, Noel Brewer and Neal Brewer, both of Abilene; two sisters, Willie Green of Abilene and Nedra Maxwell of Funston; and two grandchildren.

The family will be at 2470 Westmoreland and 1042 Foster Lane.

Camille Grigsby Alford

Camille Grigsby Alford, of Abilene, died Monday at a Baird nursing home.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Loraine Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mrs. Alford was born in Ruston, La., where she graduated from high school before attending Louisiana Tech University. She worked for the U.S. government in Little Rock, Ark., and lived in Cincinnati, Ohio, Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, Calif., before moving to Abilene in 1971. She worked for the Hardin-Simmons University Registrar's Office, Taylor County Clerk's office and for several years at the federal courthouse. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she volunteered at the Family Life Center for several years. She was a former member of Key City Chapter of American Business Women's Association and Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a member of Abilene Garden Club. She married Robert P. Alford in Little Rock; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the funeral home from 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday.

Charles Russell Horn

RICHARDSON - Charles Russell Horn, 40, died Saturday.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Horn residence. Burial will be in Plano Mutual Cemetery, directed by Sparkman Funeral Home.

Survivors include his mother, Laverne Hamilton Horn of Abilene; grandmother, Anna Louise Horn of Abilene; one brother, Michael Horn of Abilene; four sisters, Brenda Peak, Terri Robertson and Robin Carpenter, all of Abilene, and Kay Musemeche of Houston; and numerous other relatives.

Memorials may be made to the Charles Calvert Horn Trust and the Mary Steele Horn Trust, c/o Maureen Frieze, 1101 Union Bower No. 160, Irving TX 75061.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Juan Esteban Gaytan

SWEETWATER - Juan Esteban Gaytan, 39, died Sunday in Sweetwater.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Goode officiating. Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.

Mr. Gaytan was born in Juarez, Mexico, and had lived in Sweetwater for 16 years. He was a cement finisher for Big Spring Bridge Co. and a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He married Maria Hernandez in 1982 in Odessa.

Survivors include his wife, of Sweetwater; one daughter, Adriana Gaytan of Sweetwater; one son, Sergio Gaytan of Sweetwater; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Esteban Gaytan of Juarez; one sister, Carmen Zamorano of Odessa; and five brothers, Richard Gaytan of Odessa, Ernesto Gaytan of El Paso and Hector Gaytan, Edwardo Gaytan and Oscar Gaytan, all of Juarez.

Velma Bozeman

STAMFORD - Velma Bozeman, 96, died Sunday at a local nursing home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Kinney Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ted Miller officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Funston.

Mrs. Bozeman had lived in Stamford since 1971 and was a homemaker and a member of the Assembly of God Church. She married the Rev. William Bozeman in 1923 in Anson; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include one sister, Gladys Harmon of Houston, and several nieces.

Rena Gann Thomas

ROTAN - Rena Gann Thomas, 87, died Sunday in Garland.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Weathersbee Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Holder officiating, directed by Williams Funeral Directors of Garland.

Mrs. Gann had lived in Garland for more than 39 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Rebekkah Lodge in Rotan. She was the widow of Clifton Thomas.

Survivors include one son, Bob Thomas of Celeste; two daughters, Joan Cook of Graham and Tommie Underwood of Rowlett; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Irene Jacques

SWEETWATER - Irene T. Jacques, 68, died Monday at a Lubbock hospital.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Goode officiating. Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jacques was an LVN for 22 years and worked at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital and Simmons Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Immaculate Heart Catholic Church and Catholic Church Women's Organization. She married O.M. Jacques in 1947 in Sweetwater.

Survivors include her husband, of Sweetwater; one son, Rodney Jacques of Sweetwater; one daughter, Lydia Steele of Uvalde; two sisters, Margaret Virgen and Lydia Reyes, both of Sweetwater; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mae Wilder

BROWNWOOD - Mae E. Wilder, 85, died Monday at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Greenleaf Cemetery, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.

Ms. Wilder was born in Rochelle and was a lifetime resident of Brown County. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She married Luther "Luke" Wilder in 1962 in Brownwood; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include one daughter, Debra McWilliams of Brownwood; one brother, Manuel Cunningham of Brady; two sisters, Ora Nell Cavin of Brady and Sondra Piel of San Angelo; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Richard Ervin Gish

CISCO - Richard Ervin Gish, 65, died Monday at a local nursing home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Bob Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.

Mr. Gish was born in West Plains, Mo., and retired from Ace Hardware in Eastland in 1995. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. He married Rozelle Rains in 1970 in Cisco.

Survivors include his wife, of Cisco, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Church of the Nazarene, Cisco; or to the donor's favorite charity.

Edgar Clayton Pence

CISCO - Edgar Clayton Pence, 79, died Monday at an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at East Cisco Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Poe officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.

Mr. Pence was born in Cisco and worked for Norvell Miller Grocery Store for 25 years. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of East Cisco Baptist Church and Men's Bible Class and had been a deacon for 30 years. He married Frances Hammer in 1949 in Weatherford.

Survivors include his wife, of Cisco; three sons, Larry Pence, Ronny Pence and Bobby Pence, all of Cisco; two sisters, Eunice Pence and Bertha Donham, both of Cisco; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Charlie David Swindle

GOLDTHWAITE - Charlie David Swindle died Saturday at a Temple hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home Chapel.

Maude Burney

BRECKENRIDGE - Maude E. Burney, 94, died Monday at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Breckenridge Cemetery, directed by Melton Funeral Home.

Roy Groves

SNYDER - Roy T. Groves, 65, of Eustace died Sunday at an Athens hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home chapel. The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Ruby Fay Hodnett

BIG SPRING - Ruby Fay Hodnett, 84, died Sunday at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Trinity Memorial Park, directed by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

SWEETWATER - LaNelle Edwards Logan, 74, died Sunday at a local hospital. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Garden of Memories, directed by Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Sig Rogers

BIG SPRING - Sig Rogers, 91, died Monday in Conroe after a sudden illness. Services are pending with Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

Roy Gage

CISCO - Roy E. Gage died Monday at his home. Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Sabanno Cemetery, directed by Chambers-Wilcox Funeral Directors.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.
