Today's Obituaries (June 28, 1998)

LaVerne Story

LaVerne D. Story, 76, died Thursday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Highland Church of Christ with Bill Nash and David Fry officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, directed by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.

A teacher at Robert Lee, Gorman, Abilene High and Abilene Christian High School, Mrs. Story earned both bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Abilene Christian University. She was born in Wapanucka, Okla., and grew up in Munday. She earned her bachelor's degree in 1940 and master's degree in 1942 and moved to Abilene in 1956, marrying Claude Story in 1956. After retiring, she worked in the ACU credit union. She was a member of Highland Church of Christ, where she headed Cradle Roll Nursery. She was chairwoman of West Texas Junior Miss Scholarship since its inception in 1985 and a foster parent of infants for many years. She was past Woman of the Year and past president of American Business, Women's Association of Western Horizons Chapter.

Survivors include one daughter, Martha Roppe of Abilene; one son, James "Randy" Randall Story of San Antonio; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.

David Milner Manahan

David Milner Manahan, 48, died Saturday.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Potosi Cemetery with Paige Baize officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 Highway 277 South.

Mr. Manahan was born in Abilene and graduated from Wylie High School before attending Texas A&M University. He was a self-employed rancher and a member of First Baptist Church in Merkel.

Survivors include two sons, Roy Hurd Manahan of Christoval and Cole Davis Manahan of Abilene; one sister, Cathy Warrington of Palestine; and a niece.

N.R. 'Junior' Densman

COLEMAN -- N.R. "Junior" Densman, 69, died Friday in a Coleman hospital.

Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in Santa Anna Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Robinett, directed by Walker Funeral Home.

Born in Buckeye, Mr. Densman married Dorothy Snow in Santa Anna in 1948. A retired welder, he lived most of his life in Coleman and Coleman County.

Survivors include his wife of Coleman; four sons, Ricky Densman of Abilene and Jackie Densman, Danny Densman and Michael Densman, all of Coleman; seven grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Luches John 'Boots' Faulkenberry

WEATHERFORD -- Luches John "Boots" Faulkenberry, 80, died Friday in a local nursing home.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in McCaulley Cemetery, directed by Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Faulkenberry served in France and Germany. He was born in McCaulley and was a member of McCaulley Baptist Church. A diesel mechanic for most of his life, after retiring he owned and managed a farm in Hamilton.

Survivors include one son, Maurice Faulkenberry of Houston; seven sisters, Velma Johnson of Abilene, Lena Rook of Fort Worth, Agnes Hutson of Fort Worth, Hallie Stovall of Tyler, Bessie Burnett of Muenster, Wanda Threatt of Rhome and Jenny Church of Weatherford; two brothers, Lee Faulkenberry of Adell and Chess Faulkenberry of Brock; and two grandchildren.

Mildred Pietzsch

SWEETWATER -- Mildred L. Pietzsch, 72, died Saturday in Sweetwater.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in First Salem Lutheran Church in Roscoe with the Rev. Keith Kreitzer officiating. Burial will be in Roscoe Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Roscoe.

Born in Kaufman County, Mrs. Pietzsch lived in Nolan County since 1927. She graduated from Newman High School and married Wilbert E. Pietzsch in Roscoe in 1947. She was a retired secretary with the housing authority and a member of First Salem Lutheran. She was active with Sun Village and a member of VFW Auxiliary, Sweetwater American Legion Auxiliary and B&PW.

Survivors include one son, Ronnie Pietzsch of Colorado City; one daughter, Linda Tidwell of Abilene; one sister, Jessie Ray Bell of Lubbock; one brother, Sammy Eugene Hughes of Kemp; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Shirley Bell

BEDFORD -- Shirley (Mrs. Joe) Bell, 82, died Friday in a Bedford hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Henderson Funeral Home Chapel in Santa Anna. Burial will be in Santa Anna Cemetery.

Mrs. Bell was born in Davis, Okla., and lived in the Dallas and Bedford area since 1946. She was a dietitian with the school system and a member of the Christian church.

Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Thornton of Arlington; two sons, Richard Bell of Hurst and Larry Davis of Dallas; four sisters, Eugenia Proper of New Castle, Colo., Rea Grigsby of San Antonio, Shasta Toms of Lakey and Jean Poore of Dallas; one brother, Ellsworth Gillum of Othenia, Ore.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Raymond Bales

KNOX CITY -- Raymond Bales, 80, died Friday in a Temple hospital.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Knox City Church of Christ with Travis Boyd officiating. Burial will be in Knox City Cemetery, directed by Smith Funeral Home.

Born in Bonham, Mr. Bales spent most of his life in Knox County and was a member of Church of Christ. He served in the Army during World War II and was a carpenter/cabinetmaker. He married Mattie Belle Carroll in Knox City in 1974.

Survivors include his wife of Knox City; and one sister, Nellie McCraw of Lubbock.

Lewis Elder 'Slim' Booth

CISCO -- Lewis Elder "Slim" Booth, 83, of Sweetwater, formerly of Cisco, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Oakwood Cemetery with the Rev. Benny Hagan officiating, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.

Born in Sabanno, Mr. Booth married Ruby Beam in 1993 in Cisco. He worked as a mechanic and had a state inspection center in Cisco for many years. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife of Sweetwater; two daughters, Sandra Baird of Combine and Gaynell Taylor of Sweetwater; two brothers, Don Booth of Wichita Falls and Emery Booth of Cisco; two stepsisters, Rita Willingham of San Angelo and Mozelle Yeager of Cisco; and four grandchildren.

Betty Stewart

ROBY -- Betty L. Stewart, 64, died Saturday at home.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Roby Cemetery with the Rev. L.D. Parks officiating, directed by Weathersbee Funeral Home of Rotan.

Born in Dublin, Mrs. Stewart married John Stewart in Hobbs in 1955. She was a homemaker and a member of Hobbs Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband of Roby; one son, Ralph David Stewart of Denton; one daughter, Regina Leigh of San Angelo; one brother, William David Long of Dallas; and one sister, Virginia Foroster of Austing.

Velma Owens

CISCO -- Velma Owens, 89, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Walter Williams officiating. Burial will be in Romney Cemetery.

Born in Rising Star, Mrs. Owens worked as a nurse's aide and at Boss Glove. She was the widow of John C. Owens and a member of Mountain Top Church.

Survivors include four daughters, Viola Kisner of Sundown; Rosa Lee Melton of Hermleigh and Bonnie Jones and Donnie Petree, both of Cisco; 15 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Lee Aston Sartain

BROWNWOOD -- Lee Aston Sartain, 82, died Friday in a local nursing home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Coggin Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Steve McMeans officiating. Burial will be in Amity Cemetery in Comanche County, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

A retired Baptist minister, the Rev. Sartain moved to Brownwood from Magnolia, where he was a member of Walnut Creek Baptist Church. He pastored Baptist churches throughout Texas and Oklahoma over a more than 50 year span. He was born in Jack County and married Naomi Landreth in May in 1938.

Survivors include one son, Dr. R.L. Sartain of Brownwood; one brother, L.V. Sartain of Graham; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Billye Daniel

CARBON -- Billye C. Daniel, 74, of Ranger, formerly of Carbon and Odessa, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Bakker Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Bear Springs Cemetery, east of Carbon.

Born in Carbon, Mrs. Daniel graduated from Carbon High School. After marrying, she moved to Odessa, where she worked in the Ector County employees' credit union, retiring as assistant manager. She attended Houston Community College and was elected president of Odessa Professional Business Women's Association and was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Odessa.

After retiring, she moved to Carbon, where she worked for several years as secretary of Carbon Water Department. She moved to Ranger in 1996.

Survivors include one son, David Daniel of Houston; one daughter, Denice Royce of Birmingham, Ala.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Agnes Krensavage Gallina

STRAWN -- Agnes Krensavage Gallina, 84, died Friday in Eastland.

Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. today in Edwards Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday in St. John's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Marion Cemetery.

Mrs. Gallina was born in Strawn and attended school there. She married Johnnie L. Gallina in 1931 in Hopkinsville, Ky. She was a lifelong resident of Strawn, a mother, and a homemaker. She was a member of St. John's and St. John's Altar Society.

Survivors include two sisters, Pauline Wallace of Stephenville and Mary Lou Bellomy of San Antonio, and one brother, George Krensavage of McKinney.

James Beauchamp

MIDLAND -- James F. Beauchamp, 52, died Saturday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Woodson Cemetery.

Born in Weatherford, Mr. Beauchamp attended school in Breckenridge. He married Margie Sumruld in 1962. She died in 1988, and in 1993 he married Kathy Stewman. He was a machinist for Dresser-Rand Compressors for the past 11 years.

Survivors include his wife of Midland; one son, Randall Beauchamp of Midland; two daughters, April Howle of Midland and Dovie Stark of Katy; two brothers, Carl Beauchamp and David Beauchamp, both of Breckenridge; two sisters, Ruby Berkley and Gladis Blackerby, both of Breckenridge; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Georgia James McAlister

Georgia James McAlister died Saturday in a local hospital. Services are pending with North's Funeral Home.

Kenneth Finley

GORDON -- Kenneth Finley died Saturday in Stephenville. Services are pending with Edwards Funeral Home in Strawn.

Carolyn Pendleton

KOPPERL -- Carolyn Pendleton died Friday at home. Services are pending with Stephenville Funeral Home.

Lester Scott Covey

GOLDTHWAITE -- Lester Scott Covey, 25, died Saturday in Mills County. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home Chapel.

Raymond Cooper

BIG SPRING -- Raymond L. Cooper, 77, died Saturday in a local hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Rosewood Chapel.

Glynn Wooldridge

BANGS -- Glynn B. Wooldridge, 78, died Friday in a local nursing home. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church, directed by Bangs Funeral Home.

Nell Rose George

STEPHENVILLE -- Nell Rose George, 87, died Saturday in a Stephenville hospital. Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Monday in West End Cemetery, directed by Stephenville Funeral Home.

Bruce Dale Perry

GOLDTHWAITE -- Bruce Dale Perry, 32, died Saturday in a Brownwood hospital. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery, directed by Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home.

Marie Ash

BIG SPRING -- Marie Ash, 75, of Odessa, formerly of Big Spring, died Saturday in an Odessa hospital. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Trinity Memorial Park, directed by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
