Today's Obituaries (July 15, 1998)

Jack Stantz

Jack L. Stantz, 56, died Saturday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South, with Chaplain 1st Lt. John D. Massey officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories.

Mr. Stantz was born in Michigan City, Ind., where he graduated from high school, and married Patricia "Pat" Noel in 1963 in Wichita, Kan. He returned to Dyess Air Force Base in 1979 and retired after 20 years in the U.S. Air Force with the rank of master sergeant. In Abilene, he worked for Allstar Maintenance and Alliance Properties, and was vice president of operations for Patriot Maintenance until retiring in 1997. He was a Protestant.

Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two sons, Robert Giffin of Merkel and Jeffrey Stantz of Abilene; one daughter, Christine Reynolds of Robins AFB, Ga.; one brother, Jimmy Stantz of Michigan City, Ind.; one sister, Judi Dismore of La Porte, Ind.; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret Darnell Hanks

DALLAS -- Margaret Darnell Hanks, 71, formerly of Abilene, died Tuesday.

Mass will be said at 2 p.m. Friday in Church of the Good Shepherd in Granbury, directed by Wiley Funeral Home of Granbury.

Mrs. Hanks was born in Bryan and graduated from the University of Texas. She taught music in the Bryan school district and married Donald P. Hanks in 1950. She lived for many years in Abilene, where she was a charter member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. She also led the church's children's choir and was a member of the altar guild. She later lived in Granbury, where she attended the Church of the Good Shepherd, Episcopal in Granbury.

Survivors include her husband, of Dallas; three children, Cynthia Hutchison, Ken Hanks and Jana Bailey, all of Dallas; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to a favorite charity.

Hubert Pierce

BAIRD -- Hubert Pierce, 66, died Monday in Weatherford.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Parker Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Ross Cemetery Annex.

Mr. Pierce was born in Crosbyton and married Wanda Laverne Millican in 1951 in Hobbs, N.M. He moved to Baird in 1964 and worked for Stephens-Martin Paving Co. in Abilene. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, of Baird; two daughters, Teresa Ann Guthrie of Venus, Texas, and Lisa Keller of Arlington; one brother, Harlan Ray Pierce of Midlothian; one sister, Pauline Chaddick of Odessa; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Gregario Salazar Sr.

ASPERMONT -- Gregario Salazar Sr., 39, died Sunday in Abilene.

Mass will be said at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Timothy Judd officiating. Burial will be in Aspermont Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.

Mr. Salazar was born in Hamlin and worked in the oil field. He was a Catholic.

Survivors include three sons, Joshua Salazar, Jeriamiah Salazar and Jerrad Salazar, all of Haskell; his parents, Grady and Janie Salazar of Aspermont; one brother, Walley Salazar of Aspermont; two sisters, Mary Bennet of Richardson and Olga Babin of Italy; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pearl Elizabeth Trapp

CISCO -- Pearl Elizabeth Trapp, 89, died Monday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday in Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Shields and the Rev. Chris Craig officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Trapp was born in Alba and worked for Dr. C.M. Cleveland and Dr. Robert Blackstock as a receptionist and bookkeeper until retiring in 1981. She was a past worthy matron of Cisco Chapter 461, Order of the Eastern Star, and was a former member of the First Industrial Arts Club. She was a member of the Mary Martha Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church and was the widow of Leroy L. Trapp, whom she married in 1926 in Mineola.

Survivors include one son, Roy Glenn Trapp of Denton; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Edna Burks

CROSS PLAINS -- Elizabeth Edna Burks, 100, died Tuesday in a Stephenville nursing home. Services are pending with Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home of Abilene.

BIG SPRING -- Edna Word, 70, died Tuesday in a local hospital. Services are pending with Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

The Rev. Frank Zimmerman

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Rev. Frank Zimmerman, 83, former pastor of Catholic churches in Merkel and Sweetwater, died Tuesday. A wake service will be at 7 p.m. Friday in St. Stephen's Catholic Church. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday in the church, directed by Bultman Funeral Home.

Mary Lee LeCroy

STEPHENVILLE -- Mary Lee LeCroy, 73, died Monday at her home. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, directed by Lacy Funeral Home.

Jean Francis Gomez

BALLINGER -- Jean Francis Gomez, 52, died Monday at her home. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Evergreen Cemetery, directed by Rains-Seale Funeral Home.
