Thomas Flakes Jr.
Thomas Flakes Jr., 70, employed in food service at Abilene
Christian University for 47 years, died Saturday at his home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in City Cemetery
with the Rev. Samuel Tabor officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil
Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Flakes was born in Aspermont and lived in Abilene most
of his life. He was a member of North 10th and Treadaway Church
of Christ.
Survivors include one daughter, Janet Hamilton; one sister,
Adell Hill of Abilene; and two grandchildren.
Verna Bivins
LUBBOCK - Verna W. Bivins, 71, mother of an Abilene resident,
died Sunday at her home.
Services were Tuesday in St. Luke's United Methodist Church
with Dr. Tom Thomson officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial
Park, directed by Resthaven Funeral Home.
Mrs. Bivins was born in Wood County and moved to Lubbock in
1968 from Tucumcari, N.M. She was a member of the Order of the
Eastern Star and St. Michael's Episcopal Church, both in Tucumcari,
N.M., and was the widow of Bob Bivins, whom she married in 1950
in Clayton, N.M.
Survivors include two daughters, Kim Mangum of Abilene and
Kay Wood of Lubbock; one brother, David Womack of Rye; and four
grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to West Texas Rehabilitation Center,
4601 Hartford, Abilene 79605; or a favorite charity.
Clota Caudle Huffaker
WICHITA FALLS - Clota Caudle Huffaker, 85, relative of two
Big Country residents, died Tuesday in a local care center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Wichita Falls First Baptist
Church with the Rev. Howard Chapman officiating. Burial will be
in Crestview Memorial Park, directed by Lunn's Colonial Funeral
Home.
Mrs. Huffaker was born in Erath County and was a homemaker.
She moved to Wichita Falls in 1938. She was a member of Wichita
General Hospital Auxiliary, Midwestern State University M Club
and International Friends at First Baptist Church. She was the
widow of J.D. Huffaker, whom she married in 1936 in Avoca.
Survivors include two sons, Don Huffaker of Electra and Jerry
Huffaker of Austin; one sister, Vivian Haterius of Stamford; two
brothers, Joe Caudle of Abilene and Earl Caudle of Seminole; four
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to First Baptist Church Building Fund,
Wichita Falls Boys & Girls Club and United Regional Health
Care-8th Street Campus.
Gale Greer
EASTLAND - Gale Greer, 64, lifelong local resident, died Tuesday.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel
with Brett Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Eastland City
Cemetery.
Ms. Greer was born in Eastland, where she graduated from high
school in 1952, and attended North Texas State University. She
worked as a nurse's aide, an operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone
and also as a convenience store cashier.
Survivors include three sons, Cleve Downard, Steve Downard
and Chris Downard; two brothers, Ron Nash and Roy Nash; three
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Mary Mildred Poehls
WINTERS - Mary Mildred Poehls, 78, died Wednesday in a San
Angelo hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Winters Funeral Home
Chapel with the Revs. Gayland Broadstreet, Glenn Shoemake and
Ryan Prater officiating. Burial will be in Wilmeth Cemetery.
Mrs. Poehls was born in Carnegie, Okla., and moved to Texas
at age 1. She married Edd Poehls in 1939 in Norton and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Wilmeth Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Winters; two sons, Edward
Poehls of Robert Lee and Ronnie Poehls of Wingate; one brother,
G.W. Murphy of Oak Creek Lake; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will begin at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Rosa Bell McLeod
Rosa Bell McLeod, 88, died Wednesday at her home. Services
are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Glenn Farnam
STRAWN - Glenn Farnam, 27, died Wednesday from injuries received
in a truck accident. Services are pending with Edwards Funeral
Home.
Karen Havner Dickinson
SWEETWATER - Karen Havner Dickinson, 28, died Wednesday in
an Abilene hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday
in Sweetwater Cemetery, directed by Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral
Home.
Sharon Pool
ANDREWS - Sharon Pool, 35, relative of three Big Country residents,
died Tuesday at her home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in
Means Memorial United Methodist Church, directed by McNett Funeral
Home.
Icy Snow Love Kennedy
SNYDER - Icy Snow Love Kennedy died Tuesday in an Anson hospital.
