Ben Hines
Ben Hines, 62, died Thursday in a Lubbock hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Fort Phantom Hill Baptist
Church with the Rev. Mike Bradford officiating. Burial will be
in Fort Phantom Hill Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral
Home, 542 Hickory.
Mr. Hines was born in Sweetwater and lived in Abilene most
of his life. He attended Southern Baptist Seminary and served
with the U.S. Navy. He was a self-employed plumber. He married
Darlene Butler in 1981 in Greenbrier, Ark., and was a Little League
baseball umpire in Clyde. He was a member of Fort Phantom Hill
Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Abilene; two sons, Benjy Hines
of Abilene and Mikey Hines of Arkansas; three daughters, Anita
Jackson of Abilene, Tena Ross of Ranger and Michelle Lawrence
of Arkansas; three brothers, Jesse Hines and Charlie Hines, both
of Commerce, and Glenn O'Braint of Conroe; six sisters, Frances
Hope of Abilene, Hazel Claxton of Eastland, Dorothy Shifflett
of Sweetwater, Eloise Prater of Princeton, Louise Lund of Queen
City and Velma Davidson of Annona; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Candi LaShawnda Sims
Candi LaShawnda Sims, 15, died Monday in Abilene.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Antioch C.M.E. Church with
the Rev. Bill Brown officiating. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery,
directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Candi was born in Compton, Calif., and moved to Abilene in
1985 from Los Angeles. She attended school in Abilene and was
a member of Antioch C.M.E. Church.
Survivors include her mother, Margie Sims of Abilene; three
brothers, Freddrake Hicks, Hertis Sims Jr. and Ronnell Sims, all
of Abilene; and four sisters, Robin Stewart of Houston, Kimberly
Hicks of Dallas, and Margie Johnson and Jackie Sims, both of Abilene.
Johnnie Wells
Johnnie R. Wells, 80, died Thursday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. today in Elliott-Hamil Funeral
Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South, with the Rev. Jerry
Paulding officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Wells was born in Franklin and attended school in Water
Valley. She lived in Andrews for 25 years before moving to San
Angelo. She moved to Abilene in 1977 and worked for Caplin Nursing
Agency for nine years. She was a member of South Side Baptist
Church and was the widow of John Carlyle Wells, whom she married
in 1935 in Del Rio.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Tanner of Hawley; one
son, John Wells of Abilene; four sisters, Etta Fleming of San
Angelo, Linnie Parker of Midland, Willie Hamilton of Bloomfield,
N.M., and Bernice Walts of Dalhart; two brothers, Raymont Scott
of Eastland and Roy Scott of San Angelo; two grandchildren; one
great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruby Anderson
SNYDER -- Ruby Anderson, 90, longtime teacher at Stanfield
Elementary, died Thursday in a local hospital after a brief illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Snyder First United Methodist
Church with the Revs. David Robertson and Craig Curry officiating.
Burial will be in Roscoe Cemetery, directed by Bell-Cypert-Seale
Funeral Home.
Mrs. Anderson was born in Roscoe and earned, from Abilene Christian
College, a bachelor's degree in 1948 and master's degree in 1957.
She moved to Snyder in 1957. She taught school for 54 years. She
was named Outstanding Woman of Snyder and Outstanding Older Texan,
both by the American Association of University Women. She was
a charter member of Cogdell Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and was
a life member of Stanfield Elementary Parent-Teacher Association
and Delta Kappa Gamma. She also was a member of First United Methodist
Church and was the widow of Edwyn M. Anderson, whom she married
in 1947 in Abilene.
Survivors include one nephew, Dr. Allen Hopper of Atlanta;
and one great-nephew, Keven L. Hopper of Atlanta.
Donald Barrett
SWEETWATER -- Donald W. Barrett, 64, died Friday in an Abilene
hospital.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Sweetwater
Cemetery with the Rev. James Baker officiating, directed by Cate-Spencer
& Trent Funeral Home.
Mr. Barrett was born in Hermleigh and served with the U.S.
Army. He worked for the Texas Department of Transportation for
10 years and then for Humble Oil Co. for 12 years.
Survivors include one son, Kenneth Barrett of Abilene; one
daughter, Anna Ruth Crosser of Dillon, Mont.; his mother, Lois
Barrett of Sweetwater; and two grandchildren.
Ernestine Massey
OLDEN -- Ernestine Massey, 68, died Thursday in an Eastland
hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Eastland First Baptist
Church with Dr. Tom Goodman officiating. Burial will be in Eastland
City Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Eastland.
Mrs. Massey was born in Hastings, Okla., where she grew up,
and married Kenneth Massey in 1948 in Marietta. She was a homemaker
and moved to Odessa from Oklahoma and to Olden in 1985. She was
a member of Eastland First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, of Olden; three children, Hugh
L. Massey of Garland, Beverly Bailey of Centerville, Ohio, and
Velda Elaine Miller of Houston; one sister, Velda Stewart of Kansas;
four grandchildren; and two cousins.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Claude Youngblood
Claude A. Youngblood, 78, died Friday in a local hospital.

T.R. 'Blackie' Morris
BIG SPRING -- T.R. "Blackie" Morris, 92, died Friday

ALBANY -- Alan R. Meredith, 71, died Friday at his home. Services

Agatha Lockaby
BRECKENRIDGE -- Agatha Lockaby, formerly of Breckenridge, died
Friday in a Dallas hospital. Services are pending with Morehart

CISCO -- Edna Hightower, 82, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.

BROWNWOOD -- Arlis Burl Trowbridge, 56, died Friday in a local

COMANCHE -- Clement P. Jones Jr., 75, of Temple, died Thursday
