Jesse Wyatt
Jesse Wyatt, 74, of Abilene died Saturday at a local nursing
home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral
Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Larry Baird
officiating, assisted by the Rev. Joe Cosby. Burial will be in
Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Wyatt was born and attended school in Abilene. He worked
for Lind Paper Company for three years and retired after 27 years
as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He was an Army
veteran of World War II and an Air Force veteran. He was a member
of Abundant Life Apostolic Church. He married Loyce Inez Tabb
in 1951 in Abilene.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one son, Jay Wyatt
of Abilene; two brothers, A.E. Wyatt of Denton and Jerry Wyatt
of Irving; one sister, Wanda Cinnamon of Schertz; two grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.
J.B. Ashby
J.B. Ashby, 80, died Saturday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral
Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 Hwy. 277 South, with Dorcia Wallace
officiating. Burial will be in Drummond Cemetery.
Mr. Ashby was born in Caps and attended school there and in
Abilene. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a retired
Gulf dealer. He operated a service station at South 14th and Winters
Freeway for 13 years and had previously worked as an oil field
truck driver and as a farmer. He was a member of Christian Scientist
Church. He lived in Hawley and Lake Coleman before returning to
Abilene. He married Sylvia Dorothy Waldock in 1945 in England.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one son, David Leroy
Ashby of Honolulu, Hawaii; one daughter, Mary Mavis Riley of Abilene;
one brother, James W. Ashby of Abilene; two sisters, Ida Lillian
Hamby of Bogart, Ga., and Lena Marie Kimble of Abilene; and six
grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.
John Curry
LUBBOCK -- John B. Curry, 83, died Friday at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at White Funeral Home Memorial
Chapel with Shirley Curry officiating. Burial will be in Terrace
Cemetery in Post.
Mr. Curry was born in Rule and graduated from Sunset High School
in 1934. He attended Howard Payne University. He moved to Lubbock
from Abilene in 1968, after living in Seminole from 1947-1963.
He was an insurance adjustor and a member of First United Methodist
Church. He married Rosalie Thompson in 1939 in Grassland; she
preceded him in death.
Survivors include four sons, Gary Curry of Lubbock, John Curry
of Monahans, David Curry of Collinsville, Ill., and Mark Curry
of Alpine; one brother, William Rogers Curry of Lubbock; one sister,
Gladys Darnell of Haskell; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to West Texas Rehabilitation Center,
4601 Hartford, Abilene 79605; or to the donor's favorite charity.
Janie Grayson
AUSTIN -- Janie Grayson, 91, died Sunday after a lengthy illness.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Memorial
Park, directed by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home.
Mrs. Grayson was born in San Antonio and moved to Abilene in
1927. She moved to Austin in 1979. She married Thomas Grayson
in 1927; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Dr. Nancy Grayson of Austin;
one nephew, one niece and numerous other relatives.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Austin, 4107 Spicewood Springs
Road, Austin 78759.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.
Elbert Julis 'Al' Hardin
CLYDE -- Elbert Julis "Al" Hardin, 66, of Denton
Valley died Sunday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Bailey Funeral Home Chapel
with Richard Atkinson officiating. Burial will be in Kendrick
Cemetery in Denton Valley.
Mr. Hardin was born in Marietta, Okla., and moved to Denton
Valley from Abilene in 1973. He was a brick mason and belonged
to the brick mason's union in Lubbock. He was a member of Oak
Street Church of Christ in Abilene and was an Army veteran of
the Korean Conflict. He married Bettie Bowman in 1961 in Cedar
Gap.
Survivors include his wife, of Denton Valley; three sons, Roy
Lee Hardin of Fort Worth, Michael Wayne Hardin of Abilene and
Keith Hardin of Odessa; two daughters, Seretha Wooley of Denton
Valley and Charlsie Kay Ash of Buffalo Gap; his stepfather, Bernie
Wright of Denton Valley; three brothers, Fred Grice of Marietta,
Don Grice of Auburn, Calif., and Roy Grice of Ardmore, Okla.;
two sisters, Kathy Callen of Auburn and Karen Lawler of Stillwater,
Okla.; and eight grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hendrick Home for Children.
Damon Wendel
BROWNWOOD -- Damon A. Wendel, 76, died Sunday at a local hospital
after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Deitrich-Rode
Cemetery in Cherry Springs, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mr. Wendel was born in Gillispie County and had lived in Brown
County for 11 years. He retired from General Dynamics and was
a rancher. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He married
Valeta Goins in 1944 in San Antonio.
Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; three daughters,
Sandra Yarbrough of Kerrville, Karen Gibbs of Denton and Elva
Jo Carr of Abilene; one brother, Wilmar Wendel of Temple; one
sister, Ruphina Schmidt of Harper; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews.
Ruben Galvan
ANSON -- Ruben L. Galvan, 54, died Saturday at an Abilene hospital.
Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Lawrence-Adams Funeral
Home. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Saint Michael's Catholic
Church with the Rev. Oscar Del Rio officiating. Burial will be
in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Galvan was born in Jones County and attended school in
Anson. He was a contract farmer and a member of Saint Michael's
Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pamela Galvan of Anson; two sons,
Ernest Galvan and Ruben Galvan Jr., both of Anson; two daughters,
Samantha Galvan and Priscilla Galvan, both of Anson; his mother,
Lupe Galvan of Anson; five brothers, Rey Galvan of Abilene, Luis
Galvan, Manuel Galvan, Ben Galvan and Joe Galvan, all of Anson;
two grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
Johnny Wayne Hammond
MERKEL -- Johnny Wayne Hammond, 63, died Sunday at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Greg Kennedy officiating. Burial will be
in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.
Mr. Hammond was born in Arp and graduated from Merkel High
School in 1954. He was an Eagle Scout and a Marine Corps veteran.
He worked for the city of Abilene Water Department, Rocking S
Truck Stop in Livingston, Oil Transport Co., Cal-Tex Feed and
Ben Franklin Store. He was a member of Merkel Senior Citizens
and First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Ozuna Hammond
of Abilene; three brothers, Sessions Hammond of Hawley, David
Hammond of Hurst and Bob Hammond of Merkel; and several nieces
and nephews.

Jack Martin
HASKELL -- Jack Martin, 69, died Saturday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Eastside Baptist Church
with the Revs. Eric Clark and David Page officiating. Burial will
be in Rochester Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral
Directors.
Mr. Martin was born in Haskell and worked for Reddy Pest Control
for 30 years. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Church
of God. He married Doris Marie McGhee in 1981 in Haskell.
Survivors include his wife, of Haskell; two sons, Jack Martin
Jr. of Breckenridge and Thomas Martin of Santos; five daughters,
Kay Pelton of Anson, Kim Purcell of Brownwood, Kristy Becker of
Kaufman, Debbie Holder of Odessa and Karen Goode of Clyde; 22
grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Abilene Hospice.
Frankie Patterson
BROWNWOOD -- Frankie E. Patterson, 97, formerly of Dallas,
died Sunday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Heartland Funeral Home
Chapel. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Grove
Hill Cemetery in Dallas.
Mrs. Patterson was born in Denison and lived in Merkel before
moving to Dallas. She was a homemaker. She married Ernest Patterson
in 1918 in Dallas; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, Edward Patterson of Dallas; one
daughter, Lillian Powell of Merkel; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren
and four great-great-grandchildren.
Arlis Burl Trowbridge
BROWNWOOD -- Arlis Burl Trowbridge, 56, died Friday at a local
hospital after a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Heartland Funeral Home
Chapel with Tony King officiating. Burial will be in Varga Cemetery.
Mr. Trowbridge was born in Brown County and lived in Brownwood
all his life. He was a Baptist and a former heavy equipment operator.
He married Aneta Massey in 1983 in Brownwood.
Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; three sons, Jimmy
Trowbridge, Danny Trowbridge and Tommy Trowbridge, all of Brownwood;
and four grandchildren.
Alan Meredith
ALBANY -- Alan Meredith, 71, died Friday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Christian Church
with the Rev. David Mallory officiating. Burial with military
honors will be in Albany Cemetery, directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral
Home.
Mr. Meredith retired after a 30-year career in the U.S. Army
in 1974. He was a member of Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Murlene Meredith of Albany; four
sons, Jack Meredith of Fort Worth, Jeffrey Meredith of Mesquite,
Ross Meredith of Stephenville and Jerry Young of Bellaire, Md.;
two daughters, Jill Ward of Stephenville and Kim George of Albany;
two sisters, Madge Glass of Monahans and Angie Curnutt of Waco;
one brother, Jack H. Meredith of Missouri City; and nine grandchildren.
Nina Perry Shackelford
BROWNWOOD -- Nina Perry Shackelford, 89, of Brady died Sunday
at a Brady hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Bateman Cemetery
in Williamson County, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Shackelford was born in Indian Creek and taught first
grade in Williamson County for 42 years before retiring. She moved
to Brownwood in 1980 and to Brady in 1988. She was the widow of
W.C. "Shack" Shackelford.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Bobby Bates Edmiaston
SNYDER -- Bobby Bates Edmiaston, 68, died Saturday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church,
directed by Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Grover Mankin
RANGER -- Grover Q. Mankin, 91, died Sunday at a local nursing
home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Eastside Baptist
Church, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.
Willa Brown
Willa J. Brown, 37, of Anson died Sunday at a local hospital.

Nettie Barnes
Nettie M. Barnes, 92, died Saturday at a Tyler hospital. Services
are pending with North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.
Gary Don Holcomb
GOLDTHWAITE -- Gary Don Holcomb, 49, died Saturday at a Brownwood
hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist
Church, directed by Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home.
James Gray
STAMFORD -- James Gray of West Columbia, formerly of Stamford,
died Sunday at a Sweney hospital. Services are pending with Tankersley
Funeral Home.
