William Eugene 'Gene' Brown

William Eugene "Gene" Brown, 58, of Abilene died Saturday at an Anson nursing home.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home Chapel, 1443 N. 2nd.

Mr. Brown was born in Lufkin and had lived in Abilene since 1950. He graduated from Abilene High School and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a heating and air conditioning repairman and had worked for AAA Plumbing. He was a Methodist. He married Kay Patterson in 1967 in Mexico.

Survivors include his wife of Abilene; three daughters, Sara Blackburn Sears of Lufkin, Sherrina Rogers of Abilene and Kayla Cook of Nacogdoches; two sons, Billy Brown of Abilene and David Stua of Lufkin; two brothers, Fred Brown and Melvin Brown, both of Lufkin; one sister, Christeen Brown Underwood of Rio Linda, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Charles Wolfe

Charles C. Wolfe, 78, died Sunday at his home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home Chapel, 1443 N. 2nd, with the Rev. David Cason officiating. Graveside services will be at 12:45 p.m. Thursday in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Mr. Wolfe was born in Houston and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He owned and operated several theaters, including the Majestic and theaters in Del Rio and Carlsbad. He married Betty Wolfe in 1947 in Dallas.

Survivors include his wife, one niece, one nephew and one aunt.

Alma Lee Brooks

Alma Lee Brooks, 68, of Abilene died Friday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Holiday Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Durward Minor officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mrs. Brooks was born in Cameron and lived in Abilene most of her life. She was a domestic worker for 28 years and a Baptist. She married Ike B. Brooks Sr. in 1949 in Cameron; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include five sons, Ike B. Brooks Jr. and Don Earl Brooks, both of Abilene, Sammy Brooks of Oceanside, Calif., Marvin Brooks of Dallas and Perry Brooks of Dalhart; six daughters, Martha L. Wolfe, Doris Lopez, Laverne Brooks and Teressa Colbert, all of Abilene, Verdina Faye Pettigrew of Tyler and Vanessa Betford of Dallas; one brother, Anthony Huett of Houston; one sister, Thelma Reed of Abilene, 32 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the funeral home from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday.

W.C. Couch

NAPLES, Fla. -- W.C. Couch died Friday in Naples.

Private services will be held, directed by Muller-Thompson Funeral Chapel.

Survivors include two daughters, Ann Levitan of Naples and Beth Couch of Austin; one sister, Caroline Blair of Illinois; one brother, James Couch of Abilene; and one granddaughter.

Willie Mae 'Granny' Cason

WELLINGTON -- Willie Mae "Granny" Cason, a k a "Bill," 88, died Monday in Wellington.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Tommy Austin and James McLeod officiating. Burial will be in South Fairview Cemetery, directed by Adams Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cason was born in Kemp. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was WMU president and associational director, was active in GA and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a homemaker and a member of Home Demonstration Club, Garden Club and Belles Letters. She married Charles Cason in 1924 in Memphis, Tex.; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Clyde Cason of Ventura, Calif.; one sister, Jo Tedford of Fayetteville, Ark.; two brothers, G.A. Collier Jr. of Amarillo and Elwin Collier of Burnet; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Eva Cason of Abilene.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church.

Louise Hicks

RULE -- Louise Hicks, 57, died Saturday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at West Bethel Baptist Church. Burial will be in Rule Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors of Haskell.

Mrs. Hicks was born in Franklin and was a licensed vocational nurse for 33 years. She was a homemaker and a member of West Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, LeRoy Hicks Jr. of Breckenridge, Larry Don Hicks of Houston and James Edward Hicks of Lockhart; one sister, Mae Helen Dessivia of Rule; one brother, Ralph Dunson of Midland; and six grandchildren.

Jack Robinson

SWEETWATER -- Jack T. Robinson, 74, died Sunday at an Abilene hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in Garden of Memories with Dr. Joel McCoy officiating, directed by Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Mr. Robinson was born in Trent and owned and operated Robinson's for 39-1/2 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He married Tommye Lou Bolin in 1946 in Sweetwater.

Survivors include his wife of Sweetwater; one daughter, Jane Justice of Lawrenceville, Ga.; two sisters, Alta Harber of Fort Worth and Mary Frances Peddy of Galena Park; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Lavada Rains Rector

STAMFORD -- Lavada Rains Rector, 90, died Sunday at a local nursing home.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Tankersley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jay Abernathy officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today in Eastland Cemetery.

Mrs. Rector was born in Vernon and was a Baptist, a bookkeeper and a homemaker. She was the widow of M.K. Rector and George Rector.

Survivors include two brothers, George Jackson of Amarillo and Lee Jackson of Pampa; two sisters, Myrtle Risley and Charlene Hartwick, both of Lincoln, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.

Francis Marion Rowan

SWEETWATER -- Francis Marion Rowan, 91, died Sunday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at McCoy Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Larry Garnto and Tim O'Brien officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories.

Mr. Rowan was born in Chickasha, Okla., and lived in Sweetwater since 1955 and in the area many years before that. He retired after 25 years with Sweetwater Cotton Oil Mill and farmed in the area until 1955. He was a member of Fourth and Pine Church of God. He married Mattie Lee Hale in 1931 in Roby; she preceded him in death.

Survivors include two daughters, Frances Lee Utley of Mineola and Margaret Proctor of Sweetwater; three sons, Billy Gerald Rowan of Pearsall, Jackie Edd Rowan of Sweetwater and J.D. Rowan of Roscoe; one sister, Marie Veal of Sweetwater; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, two stepgreat-great-grandchildren, one great-great-great-grandchild and one stepgreat-great-great-grandchild.

Alma Philpott

CISCO -- Alma Philpott, 97, died Monday at her home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Chris Craig officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.

Mrs. Philpott was born in Dallas County and graduated from Carrollton High School in 1917. She received a teacher certificate from Denton Normal School (now the University of North Texas) at age 17 and taught in Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Grapevine and Irving. She moved to Aspermont in 1921 and taught school, then to Cisco in 1928 and opened Philpott Florist and Greenhouse. She retired in 1968. She had been a member of First Baptist Church for 70 years and was a former Sunday school teacher and choir member. She married Barton Philpott in 1923 in Farmers Branch; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, William "Bill" Philpott and Joe Philpott, both of Cisco; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mary Stone

CLYDE -- Mary B. Stone, 77, died Monday at an Abilene hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Clyde Cemetery, directed by Bailey Funeral Home.

Juan Jose 'Johnny' Valles

BIG SPRING -- Juan Jose "Johnny" Valles, 62, of Stanton died Sunday at his home. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Stanton. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, directed by Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Della Hattie Kubala

SWEETWATER -- Della Hattie Kubala, 77, died Monday at an Abilene hospital. The body will be cremated, directed by McCoy Funeral Home. Further services are pending.

Birthel Deola Frazier

SWEETWATER -- Birthel Deola Frazier, 98, died Saturday at a local nursing home. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Garden of Memories, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.

Ruth Elaine Seguin

SWEETWATER -- Ruth Elaine Seguin, 66, died Sunday at a local hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel.

Johnnie Morris

Johnnie M. Morris, 71, died Monday at a local hospital. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Joyce Sechrist

STEPHENVILLE -- Joyce Sechrist, 59, died Monday at a local nursing home. Services are pending with Lacy Funeral Home.

Nathan Carl Hutchison

ODESSA -- Nathan Carl Hutchison, 86, of Gardendale and formerly of Eastland, died Saturday. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Eastland City Cemetery, directed by Martinez Funeral Home.
