Today's Obituaries (Aug. 13, 1998)

Aleta Moore

Aleta E. Moore, 93, died Tuesday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Rodney Watson and the Rev. H.B. Terry Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Moore was born in Cross Plains, where she graduated from high school. She graduated from Daniel Baker College in Brownwood and attended Texas Tech University and San Marcos College. She married Hewell Moore in Coleman in 1930 and taught grades 1-12 at Brown Ranch School in Coleman County for 12 years. She was a member of Lytle South Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Kirk Moore of Whitney; one daughter, Nancy Couch of Abilene; two brothers, Elbert Walker of Jayton and Loyd Walker of Fort Phantom; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Jack Earl Young Jr.

Jack Earl Young Jr., 49, died Tuesday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Highland Church of Christ, 425 Highland, with Dr. Tom Milholland officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Gap, directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1143 N. 2nd.

Born in Wichita Falls, Mr. Young married Gayle Watkins in 1982 in Abilene. He was a letter carrier for the Postal Service and president of the National Association of Letter Carriers, branch 950. He was a member of Highland Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; three sons, Brandon Young and Caleb Young, both of Abilene, and Nathan Young of Lewisville; five daughters, Tiffiny Rathel, Brandi Tallent and Micaela Young, all of Abilene, and Sherry Gleaton of Goldthwaite and Tammy Armentrout of Electra; his parents, Jack and Theresa Young of Lipan; two sisters, Cathy Haney of Tyler and Robin Thormann of Lipan; two grandmothers, Pansey Dabney of Brownwood and Ursel Young of Arkansas; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

Johnnie Morris

Johnnie M. Morris, 71, died Monday in a local hospital.

Local arrangements were made with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Her body was cremated.

Mrs. Morris worked for 10 years as a waitress at Tye Truck Stop after moving to Abilene in 1985. She was born in Leesville and attended public schools in San Antonio, where she married Johnny Morris in 1982. She was a member of Church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Carver of Abilene; two sisters, Hazel Tabers of Mayfield, Kent., and Verona Robbins of Seguin; two grandsons and two great-grandchildren.

Gary Don Wright

Gary Don Wright, 35, died Tuesday at home.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy 277 South, with the Rev. Gary Word of Trinity Chapel officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Born in Abilene, Mr. Wright spent his spare time fishing.

Survivors include his parents, Betty Lou Lemond and S.C. Lemond, both of Abilene; one brother, Larry Lee Wright of Abilene; one sister, Janice K. Boul of Riverside, Calif.; and four nephews.

Frieda Ullrich Reimann

Frieda Ullrich Reimann, 82, died Wednesday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. H.B. Terry Jr. officiating. Her body will be cremated.

Mrs. Reimann was born in Germany and moved to the United States in 1923. She attended schools both in Germany and America. She was a homemaker and the widow of Gerhard W. Reimann, whom she married in New York City.

Survivors include one son, Gerhard Reimann of Abilene; one brother, Karl Ullrich of New York; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Minnie May Debnam

LAMESA - Minnie May Debnam, 88, of Abilene, formerly of Lamesa, died Tuesday in a local nursing home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Teeters officiating and John Shugart assisting. Burial will be in Lamesa Memorial Park, directed by Branon Funeral Home.

Mrs. Debnam, the oldest daughter in a farming family of four girls and two boys, was born in Elida, N.M. She grew up in Elida and Lamesa and graduated from Lamesa High School in 1928. She attended Texas Tech University, earned her teaching certificate, and taught in Cedar Lake, Higginbotham and Dawson County schools.

She married Marcus M. Debnam in 1933 at Ballard School in Dawson County. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was re-baptized as a Baptist in a swimming tank in the 1940s. She taught Sunday School classes for children and adults and held numerous offices in Woman's Missionary Union at Friendship Baptist and in Lamesa Baptist Association. She moved to Abilene in 1991 and became a member of University Baptist Church there. She enjoyed freezing and canning produce from her garden and fruit trees every fall.

Survivors include one son, Travis Debnam of Lamesa; one daughter, Wanda Gann of Abilene; one sister, Edna Duncan of Portales; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews.

Eva Sibert

COMANCHE - Eva Sibert, 82, died Wednesday in a Brownwood hospital.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Hall and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Jeff Sweeten officiating. Burial will be in White Point Cemetery.

Born in Coryell City, Mrs. Sibert married Clyde Sibert in 1934. She ran the soda fountain in Service Drug for many years before retiring. She was a member of Pearl Street Church of Christ for 40 years.

Survivors include one son, Garry Sibert of Comanche; two sisters, Claudine Franks of Midland and Wodna Williford of Bangs; one brother, John Robertson of Hillsboro; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Loretta Morris

EASTLAND - Loretta Morris, 87, died Tuesday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 4 p.m. today in Bakker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marc Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Eastland Cemetery.

A home economics teacher at Eastland High School for 28 years, Ms. Morris was born in Carbon. She graduated from Carbon High School, and earned a bachelor's degree at Texas State College for Women and a master's degree at Southwest Texas State University. She retired from Eastland High School in 1972. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Suzannah Wesley Class, United Methodist Women and Texas State Teachers Association.

Survivors include two sisters, Opal Morris of Eastland and Estalee Morris Price of Mexia; one brother, Guy Morris of Eastland; and several cousins.

Marvin Ruff

ALBANY - Marvin N. Ruff, 72, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.

Graveside services will be at 11 p.m. Friday in Albany Cemetery with the Rev. John Tunnell officiating, directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home.

Born in Albany, Mr. Ruff helped his father, Houston Ruff, run Jiggs Club Pool Hall and continued operating it after his father died.

Survivors include one brother, James A. Ruff of Breckenridge, and several nieces and nephews.

Wilton Hershel Henry

Wilton Hershel Henry, 89, died Tuesday in a local nursing home. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Travis Bond

EASTLAND - Travis Bond died Wednesday in an El Paso hospital. Services are pending with Edwards Funeral Home.

Ida Underwood

BIG SPRING - Ida Underwood, 96, died Wednesday in a local nursing home. Services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Charles Cross

RANGER - Charles Cross, 71, died Wednesday at home. Services are pending with Gum & Son Funeral Home in Potosi, Miss., with local arrangements by Edwards Funeral Home.

Jose Alfredo Martinez

WINTERS - Jose Alfredo Martinez, 32, of Ballinger, died Tuesday in Winters. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. today in Winters Funeral Home. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Northview Cemetery.

Beth Ragsdale

EASTLAND - Beth Ragsdale, 58, of Colleyville, died Tuesday in Bedford. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Bakker Funeral Home Chapel.

Gladys May Largent

BRECKENRIDGE - Gladys May Largent, 50, died Tuesday at home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Morehart Mortuary.

Helen Louise Webster

ODESSA - Helen Louise Webster, 75, formerly of Abilene and mother of Marti Lanier of Abilene, died Monday in Odessa. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel.

Ina Roberts

GOREE - Ina Roberts, 94, died Tuesday in a Seymour hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in First United Methodist Church, directed by McCauley-Smith Funeral Home of Munday.
