George Thomas 'Tom' Myers

George Thomas "Tom" Myers, 71, died Monday in a Dallas hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Myers was born in Bellevue in Clay County, where he graduated from high school, and served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Philippines and the Occupation Forces in Japan. He married Frances Winingham in 1948 in Bellevue. He worked in the oil field in Texas for many years and moved to Abilene in 1960 from Bowie. He owned and operated Rig Testers Inc., an oilfield service company, until retiring. He was a 50-year member of the Bowie Masonic Lodge and also was a member of West Central Texas Oil and Gas Association, Abilene Petroleum Club and Southwest Park Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one son, Randall "Randy" Myers of Abilene; one daughter, Nancy Anthony of Colleyville; two sisters, Margaret Johnson of Wichita Falls and Ethel Anderson of Dallas; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Arthur 'Speedy' Cerda

ANSON - Arthur "Speedy" Cerda, 35, died Tuesday from injuries received in an accident south of Abilene.

Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. Oscar Del Rio officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Lawrence-Adams Funeral Home.

Mr. Cerda was born in Ranger and attended school in Baird. He married Guadalupe Ramos in 1988 in Batesville, Ark., and moved to Anson in 1993. He worked as a truck driver and diesel mechanic for Vulcan Materials.

Survivors include his wife, of Anson; two daughters, Dolores Loredo and Chrystal Loredo, both of Anson; one adopted son, Jeremy Watts of Anson; his parents, Pedro and Concha Cerda of Baird; eight brothers, Frank Cerda of Pilot Point, Michael Cerda of Rockwood, Mich., and Pedro Cerda Jr., Joe Cerda, Carlos Cerda, Matthew Cerda, Manuel Cerda and Gabriel Cerda, all of Baird; five sisters, Estela Moreno of Anson, Lydia Hernandez of Fort Worth, Yolanda Torres of Abilene, and Concha Ramirez and Becky Carrion, both of Baird; and one grandchild.

Carolyn 'Susie' Patterson

HALTOM CITY - Carolyn "Susie" Patterson, 53, relative of three Abilene residents, died Aug. 9 at her home.

Services were Aug. 12 in Mount Olivet Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Worth. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth.

Mrs. Patterson was born in Stamford and married Eugene Patterson in 1962. She was a homemaker and moved to the Fort Worth area in 1968.

Survivors include her husband, of Haltom City; two sons, Steve Patterson of Azle and Keith Patterson of Haltom City; her parents, Johnny and Ida Mae McCorkle of Abilene; one brother, Eddie McCorkle of San Angelo; one sister, Beverly Ferguson of Abilene; and two grandchildren.

Ross Perry

ALBANY - Ross O. Perry, 85, a Shackelford County commissioner for two terms, died Monday in a Lubbock hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Albany First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Douglas Stenberg officiating. Burial will be in Albany Cemetery, directed by Godfrey-Neese Funeral Home.

Mr. Perry was born in Gunsight and married Mary Allene Woolfolk in 1940 in Albany. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge and D-Day invasion. He worked for Roeser-Pendleton Oil Co., now Marshal R. Young, for many years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 482 and First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Albany; two sons, Gene Perry of Coppell and James Perry of Lubbock; two brothers, Dillon Perry of Gainesville and D.A. Perry of Odessa; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Eldon Lee Salyer

DUBLIN - Eldon Lee Salyer, 59, lifelong local resident, died Sunday at his home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Harrell Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Locke officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory.

Mr. Salyer was born in Dublin and worked in the U.S. Air Force. He served in Korea and Vietnam. He married Guadalupe "Lupe" Leal in 1992 in Stephenville and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, of Dublin; four daughters, Karen Ann Savoy and Trena Williams, both of Bangor, Maine, Cynthia Garcia of Brownwood and Valarie Salinas of Dublin; one son, Bobby Salyer of Bangor, Maine; one sister, Dorthy Marie Chambers of Dallas; five grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Ruth Lamb

CISCO - Ruth Lamb, 74, died Sunday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Kimbrough Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Franklin Stephens officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Lamb was born in Dan Horn in Eastland County and married Troy Lamb in 1939 in Cisco. She was a homemaker and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, of Cisco; three sons, Weldon Lamb of Nimrod, and Roger Lamb and Troy Lamb Jr., both of Pleasant Hill; one sister, Faye Owings of Cisco; two brothers, Wilburn Bisbee of Midland and C.L. Bisbee of Andrews; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

James Ruby Hammons

GOREE - James Ruby Hammons, 95, died Sunday in a Sparks, Nev. care center.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday in Goree Church of Christ with Roy Shake officiating. Burial will be in Goree Cemetery, directed by McCauley-Smith Funeral Home of Munday.

Mr. Hammons was born in Oklahoma Territory and lived in Goree for many years. He worked as a butcher. He was a member of the Church of Christ and was the widower of Nettie Margaret Wright Hammons, whom he married in 1925 in Seymour.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Earl Hammons of Honolulu and Johnny Leo Hammons of Sparks, Nev.; three daughters, Ginger Cooksey of Sulphur Springs, Florene Norian of Franklin, Mass., and Ruby Dain Howell of Joshua; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Brenston Staggs

Brenston Staggs, 82, died Tuesday in a local hospital. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Ethel Mae Kelley DeWitt

BRECKENRIDGE - Ethel Mae Kelley DeWitt, 66, died Monday in an Abilene hospital. Services are pending with Melton Funeral Home.

Sarah Genevieve 'Jan' Tiner

ASPERMONT - Sarah Genevieve "Jan" Tiner, 77, of Dallas and formerly of Aspermont, died Monday in a Dallas hospital. Services are pending with McCoy Funeral Home.

Charmaine Lynn

BIG SPRING - Charmaine Lynn, 42, died Monday in a local hospital after a short illness. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in Mount Olive Memorial Park, directed by Myers & Smith Funeral Home.

Ernest Whatley

CISCO - Ernest Whatley, 82, of Dallas, died Monday in a Dallas care center. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Oakwood Cemetery, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.

Peggy Harris

STEPHENVILLE - Peggy Harris, 58, died Monday at her home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel.
