Gene Brooks
Gene Brooks, 68, died Monday at his home in Abilene.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral
Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy. 277 South, with the Rev.
Wayne Heinze officiating. Burial will be in Elliott-Hamil Garden
of Memories.
Mr. Brooks was born in Evansville, Ind., and moved to Abilene
in 1956. He had owned and operated Central Repair since 1972.
He was a Baptist and an Army veteran. He married Jo Ann Miller
in 1956 in Abilene.
Survivors include his wife of Abilene; one son, Darrow Brooks
of Buffalo Gap; one daughter, Robin Carroll of Lake Dallas; one
brother, Bill Brooks of Abilene; one sister, Flora Hulsey of California;
seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Country, 3113 Oldham
Lane, Abilene 79602; or the VA Hospital in Temple.
Ruth Tomlinson Hunt
HASKELL - Ruth Tomlinson Hunt, 86, a Haskell resident since
1961, died Saturday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church
with Kenneth Blair officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery,
directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Hunt was born in Old Glory and was a homemaker and a member
of Trinity Baptist Church. She married Clyde Hunt in 1959 in Big
Spring; he preceded her in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Jean Fenner of Abilene,
Patsy Henderson of Lueders and Linda Hill of Albuquerque, N.M.;
three stepsons, Jerry Hunt of Tulsa, Okla., Bobby Hunt of Longview
and Phillip Hunt of Midland; one sister, Helen Jones of Atlanta,
Ga.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Allen Thomas
EASTLAND - Allen G. Thomas, 70, died Sunday at a local hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church with
the Revs. Dewey Lamb and Jonathan Gay and Marcus O'Dell officiating.
Burial will be in Eastland Cemetery, directed by Bakker Funeral
Home.
Mr. Thomas was born, grew up and went to school in Eastland.
He was an Army veteran, a retired carpenter and a member of Bethel
Baptist Church. He married Wanda Thompson in 1948 in Albany.
Survivors include his wife of Eastland; two sons, Danny Thomas
of Eastland and Gary Thomas of Lancaster; one brother, Lowell
Thomas of Corpus Christi; two sisters, Betty Barker of Eastland
and Nellie Smith of Bandera; and two grandchildren.
Lois 'Terrapin' Briley
COLORADO CITY - Lois "Terrapin" Briley, 84, died
Saturday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church
with the Rev. John Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell
County Cemetery, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Mr. Briley was born in DeKalb and had lived in Colorado City
for 72 years.
Survivors include one son, Lois Briley Jr. of Wichita Falls;
one daughter, Carolyn Haynes of Colorado City; seven grandchildren
and six great-grandchildren.
The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.
Chester Cooper
HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Chester Cooper, 76, a resident of
Rotan from 1947-1964, died Aug. 11 in Huntington Beach after a
long illness.
He retired from National Gypsum Co. in 1985 after 38 years.
He was a member and president of Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign
Wars post commander and a member of the Chamber of Commerce. He
was a life member of VFW Post 5072 in Rotan.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Cooper; one son, J.P. Cooper;
one daughter, Roberta; four sisters, Lin, Francis, Evelyn and
Bonnie; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Allie 'Annie' Brown
BROWNWOOD - Allie "Annie" Brown, 86, formerly of
Mills County, died Sunday at a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Greenleaf
Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Swindler officiating, directed by
Heartland Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brown was born in Montague and moved to Brownwood from
Mills County in 1996. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include several children and grandchildren.
Dean Summers
COMANCHE - Dean Summers, 75, died Sunday at an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with
Dr. Van Christian and the Rev. Sam Randolph officiating. Burial
will be in Comanche Gardens of Memory, directed by Hall &
Sons Funeral Home.
Mr. Summers was born in Bib (near Sidney) and lived in the
Comanche area most of his life, moving from Rising Star in 1959.
He retired from Meads Bakery after 35 years and was employed by
Red & White Grocery for a short time. He worked for Hall &
Sons Funeral Home for 10 years. He was a Navy veteran of World
War II and a member and deacon in First Baptist Church. He was
a member of North American Mission Service Corp. volunteers and
served on the Mission Board. He married Letha Elrod in 1948 in
Comanche.
Survivors include his wife of Comanche; one daughter, Gwinn
Adams of Wichita Falls; four sisters, Frances Flippo of Highland,
Betty Albright and Juanita Franklin, both of Baytown, and Nelda
Larson of Fort Worth; two brothers, Royce Summers and Rodney Summers,
both of Snyder; his stepmother, Stella Mae Jones of Snyder; and
one granddaughter.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church General Fund.
The family will have lunch at noon at First Baptist Church
Fellowship Hall.
Georgia Bernice Shipman
HASKELL - Georgia Bernice Shipman, 71, died Monday at an Abilene
hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Assembly of God Church
with the Revs. Eric Clark and J.C. Amburn officiating. Burial
will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral
Directors.
Mrs. Shipman was born in Vera and worked as food service supervisor
at Haskell Nursing Center for 30 years. She was a member of the
Church of God. She married C.L. Shipman in 1943 in Vera; he preceded
her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Claudette Klein of Henrietta
and Tammy Crosson of Haskell; one son, James Shipman of Arlington;
four sisters, Betty Pace of Thatcher, Ariz., Zoe Ella Evans of
Marysville, Tenn., Blanche Luttrell of Fort Worth and Erma Hedgewood
of Muskogee, Okla.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hendrick League House.
Charlie Gordon
COLEMAN - Charlie Gordon, 89, died Monday at a local nursing
home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stevens Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. Reed Justus officiating. Burial will be in
Coleman Cemetery.
Mr. Gordon was born in Sweet Home, where he grew up and attended
school. He was an Army veteran and for many years was a used car
dealer and home builder. He was a member of First United Methodist
Church, where he served as president of Friendly Fellows Sunday
school class for a number of years. He married Ethel Marie Jameson
in 1936; she preceded him in death. He married Beulah Ewing Jolly
in 1986 in Abilene.
Survivors include his wife of Coleman; three brothers, Gilbert
Gordon and Alfred Gordon, both of La Pryor, and Raymond Gordon
of Beeville; three sisters, Ruthie Hoff and Ethel Benham, both
of Kenedy, and Ima Hurley of Del Rio; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 500
W. Live Oak, Coleman 76834.
Mary Lou LaLond
Mary Lou LaLond, 49, of Katy died Aug. 13 at her home.
Services were Aug. 17 in Katy, directed by Memorial Oaks Funeral
Home.
Survivors include her mother, Cleo Zapata of Abilene; two daughters,
Milissa Weisinger and Melinda LaLond, both of Katy; one sister,
Gloria Ormand of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Bill Zapata of Tye;
five grandchildren and two nephews.
Memorials may be made to any hospice facility.
Miranda Kristine Reed
COLEMAN - Miranda Kristine Reed, 22 months, died Sunday at
a local hospital.
Graveside services will be at noon Thursday in Forest Park
East Cemetery in Houston. Local arrangements were by Stevens Funeral
Home.
Miranda was born in Clear Lake and had lived in Coleman for
eight months. She was baptized in the Episcopal church.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Helen Lorene Reed
and Michael Albanese of Coleman; her father, David Bruce of League
City; grandparents Karen Jordan of Coleman, Charles Lee of Georgia,
Marilyn Meyers of Dallas and Mr. Bruce of Ohio; great-grandparents
Nell and Harmon Jordan of Houston; and several other relatives.

Al Brower
SWEETWATER - Al Brower, 75, died Friday in Tucson, Ariz.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at McCoy Funeral Home
Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Mike Wilcox officiating. Entombment
will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Rest Haven Mausoleum in Lubbock.
Mr. Brower was born in Madill, Okla., and moved to Sweetwater
in 1978. He opened Al's Cafe and was a member of Avondale Baptist
Church. He moved to San Manuel, Ariz., in May. He had been a policeman
in California and worked for Bell Brand Foods. He was a veteran
of World War II. He married Maxine Sikes in 1945 in San Francisco.
Survivors include his wife of San Manuel; two daughters, Brenda
Eberhardt of Sweetwater and Linda Kaye Ham of San Manuel; three
sisters, Georgia Gaines of Odessa, Eta Wilcox of Shallowater and
Virginia Willard of Minnesota; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Maggie Estelle Snider
GORMAN - Maggie Estelle Snider, 86, died Monday at a local
nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Higginbotham Funeral
Home Chapel with Dane Gressett officiating. Burial will be in
Oaklawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Snider was born in Comanche County and was a homemaker
and a member of United Pentecostal Church. She married Jewell
Snider in 1926 in Comanche County.
Survivors include her husband of Gorman; two sons, Kennith
Snider of Rose Bud, Ark., and Larry Don Snider of Gorman; five
daughters, Alice Marie Smith and Treva Jewel Green, both of Midland,
Maudie Lee Husband and Peggy Sue Ingram, both of Cisco, and Diana
Jean Snider of Gorman; 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Roscoe Foster Leard
CISCO - Roscoe Foster Leard, 89, died Sunday at an Eastland
hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Kimbrough Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. Joe Philpott officiating. Burial will be
in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Leard was born in Tupelo, Miss., and was a farmer and a
member of Cisco Masonic Lodge 556 and East Cisco Baptist Church.
He married Geneva Brown in 1930 in Snyder; she preceded him in
death.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Raymond Foy Jackson
DICKENS - Raymond Foy Jackson, 79, died Sunday at a Lubbock
hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Dickens
Cemetery, directed by Campbell Funeral Home of Spur.

GRAND PRAIRIE - Herman K. Foster, 69, died Sunday in Grand
Prairie. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Edwards Funeral

Tia Donnette Roberts, 31, died Saturday at her home. Services

BIG SPRING - Bert "Bubba" Edgington, 22, died Sunday
at a Lubbock hospital after a lengthy illness. Graveside services

Michael Allen Chalupa, 30, of Abilene died Saturday at his
