Today's Obituaries (Aug. 31, 1998)

Juanita Baker

Juanita E. Baker, 76, of Abilene died Saturday at her home.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy. 277 South, with the Revs. Jimmy Smithee and Johnny Snow officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Baker was born in Decatur and attended school in Greenwood. She moved to Abilene from Albany in 1957. She was a homemaker and a member of Elmcrest Baptist Church. She married Floyd Baker in 1944 in Hershey, Pa.

Survivors include her husband of Abilene; three sons, Douglas E. Baker of Cape Canaveral, Fla., J.R. Baker of Burkburnett and Ronnie Baker of Abilene; two daughters, Linda Snow of Austin and Paula G. Miller of Waco; 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. today.

Charlene Casey

RANGER - Charlene Casey, 57, died Sunday at an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Merriman Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Speer and Jim Lively officiating. Burial will be in Merriman Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.

Mrs. Casey was born and attended school in San Angelo. She was a kitchen aide in nursing homes and at Eastland Memorial Hospital for about seven years. She was affiliated with Merriman Baptist Church. She married Clinton Casey in 1958 in Odessa.

Survivors include her husband of Ranger; two sons, Ray Casey of Ranger and Wade Casey of Stephenville; two daughters, Debbie Casey of Odessa and Lisa Casey Moody of Strawn; three sisters, Lela Payne of Abilene, Eva Creelman of Sundance and Mary Beaty of Odessa; one brother, Lewis Harvey Jr. of San Angelo; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Morris Wayne Burnett

BROWNWOOD - Morris Wayne Burnett, 62, of May died Sunday at a local hospital after a brief illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Don Longoria and Dennis Hester officiating. Burial will be in May Cemetery.

Mr. Burnett was born in May, where he lived all his life. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include one son, Curtis Burnett of May; three daughters, Karla Carter of Farmington, N.M., Teresa Ferguson of May and Dana Thompson of Rising Star; four brothers, Howard Burnett and Jerry Burnett, both of May, Edward Burnett of Bangs and Ira Lee Burnett of Waco; four sisters, Avanell Stewart, Coszett Oakes and Inez Franklin, all of May, and Eloise Hopper of Brownwood; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

James Leroy Winters

SWEETWATER - James Leroy Winters, 62, died Saturday at an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Avondale Baptist Church with the Rev. Cecil Deadman officiating. Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.

Mr. Winters was born in Fort Worth. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of Sweetwater Masonic Lodge 571, Suez Temple in San Angelo and Avondale Baptist Church. He married Billie Logsdon in 1991 in Weatherford.

Survivors include his wife of Sweetwater; five sons, Kevin Turner of Sweetwater, Danny Turner of Greenville, S.C., James Winters Jr. of Colorado, Billy Winters of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Michael Winters of Sterling, Colo.; five daughters, Kayla Winters and Kerri Epperson, both of Sweetwater, Julie Whitehead of Florida, Iva Everitt of Brownwood and Kim Winters of Bogata; one brother, John Winters of Mineral Wells; 25 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Shriners hospitals.

Goodson Sellers

MUNDAY - Goodson Sellers, 89, died Sunday at a local nursing home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Hall officiating. Burial will be in Johnson Memorial Cemetery, directed by McCauley-Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Sellers was born in Abilene and moved to Munday from Rule in 1957. He retired as manager of West Texas Utilities in Rule and Munday in 1973. He was a member of First Baptist Church and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a former member of Munday Lions Club and past secretary-treasurer of Lake Creek Country Club. He married Ethelyn Starr in 1930 in Abilene.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Starr Marugg of Woodward, Okla.; one grandson, two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to West Texas Rehabilitation, 4601 Hartford, Abilene 79605; or Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, Box 1890, Amarillo 79174.

Mary Rose Machart

SWEETWATER - Mary Rose Machart, 92, died Sunday at a Roscoe care center. Services are pending with McCoy Funeral Home.

Caron 'Beth' Freshour

BIG SPRING - Caron "Beth" Freshour, 52, died Sunday at a local hospital. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

John Daniel Ward

SNYDER - John Daniel Ward, 73, died Sunday at a Big Spring hospital after a brief illness. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel.

Elyssia Marie Hernandez

SNYDER - Elyssia Marie Hernandez, infant, died Saturday at a Sweetwater hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Roscoe Cemetery, directed by Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
