David Neil Warner
David Neil Warner, 89, of Tye, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Tye United Methodist
Church with the Revs. Bill Perkins and Tim Jarrell officiating,
directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.
Mr. Warner was born in Grapeland and moved to Tye in 1914.
He married Selma Thomas in 1935 in Goree and was a farmer. He
was a Tye school trustee for 20 years and was the oldest member
of Tye United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Tye; two sons, Eldon Warner
of Waco and David Neil Warner Jr. of Gilroy, Calif.; one daughter,
Suzanne Hobbs of Portland, Texas; five grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Methodist Children's Home in Waco.
Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Carl Allan Sims
CALL - Carl Allan Sims, 33, formerly of Abilene, died Wednesday
from injuries received in an automobile accident near Vidor.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in E.E. Stringer Funeral
Home in Kirbyville. The body will be cremated.
Mr. Sims was born in Abilene and moved to Call in 1978. He
worked as a construction insulator.
Survivors include one daughter, Lindsay Brooke Sims of Kirbyville;
his parents, Otis "Shorty" and Pat Sims of Call; one
sister, Lee Ann Sims of Call; and his grandparents, Otis F. and
Jo Sims of Abilene, and Julia Carter of Granbury.
Phillip Clay Wheeler
MUNDAY - Phillip Clay Wheeler, 23, of Belton, died Thursday
from injuries received in a one-vehicle accident near Temple.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Munday Church
of Christ with Jeff Christian officiating, directed by McCauley-Smith
Funeral Home.
Mr. Wheeler was born in Lubbock and graduated from Abilene
High School. He married Amy Renee Atkins in 1997 in Belton. He
moved to Belton in 1997 from Abilene and worked as a heating and
cooling technician. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, of Belton; one son, Phillip Chase
Wheeler of Belton; his parents, Jackye and Dennis Johnston of
Munday, and Gary and Dennice Wheeler of Lubbock; two sisters,
Robin Lynn Wheeler of Abilene and Kate Bryant of Lubbock; and
his maternal grandfather, Lee Roy Leflar of Munday.
A fund for the family has been established at First National
Bank, P.O. Box 10, Munday 76371; account 050-6052.
Beatrice Calvert
ROSCOE - Beatrice Calvert, 90, died Wednesday in a Colorado
City hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today in McCoy Funeral Home Chapel
of Memories in Sweetwater with the Rev. Orvel Brantley officiating.
Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery.
Mrs. Calvert was born in Sweetwater and graduated from Newman
High School. She was a homemaker and moved to Roscoe in 1985.
She was a member of Jonesboro Baptist Church and was the widow
of John Calvert, whom she married in 1927 in Sweetwater.
Survivors include one daughter, Lanelle Drake of Roscoe; one
son, Jim Calvert of Dunn; one brother, W.B. Carson of Abilene;
five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Glen Thomas Whittington
GLEN COVE - Glen Thomas Whittington, 92, of San Luis Obispo,
Calif., and formerly of Glen Cove, died Wednesday in a San Luis
Obispo hospital.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Glen Cove Cemetery,
directed by Stevens Funeral Home of Coleman.
Mr. Whittington was born in Glen Cove, where he attended school,
and married his wife in 1927. He was a grain farmer for 20 years.
He moved to California in 1945 and San Luis Obispo in 1954. He
worked as an appliance technician for Idlers for 25 years until
retiring in 1968.
Survivors include his wife, Lexie Whittington; two daughters,
Patty Yeager and Edna Breazeale, both of San Luis Obispo, Calif.;
two sons, Marion Whittington of Bakersfield, Calif., and Roger
Whittington of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; nine grandchildren; 18
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces
and nephews.

Lillian Estelle Powell
MERKEL - Lillian Estelle Powell, 74, died Wednesday in an Abilene
hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Merkel First United Methodist
Church with the Revs. Robert Bush and Greg Kennedy officiating.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral
Home.
Mrs. Powell was born in Dallas, where she graduated from Dallas
Tech High School, and was a homemaker. She owned and operated
Mr. M Grocery Store in Tye and a turkey ranch in Zephyr. She also
was a Merkel school bus driver for 10 years and was a farmer and
rancher. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star. She was
a Lutheran and was the widow of Burnis Ray Powell, whom she married
in 1963 in Snyder.
Survivors include three sons, Ronnie Powell of Merkel, Gary
Straach of Crandell and Richard Straach of Port Aransas; two daughters,
Deanna Greer of Early and Linda Straach of Edwardsburg, Mich.;
one brother, Edward E. Patterson of Dallas; 11 grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren.
Estella Thompson
HASKELL - Estella Thompson, 87, died Monday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Greater Independent
Baptist Church. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by
Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Thompson was born in Harris County and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Greater Independent Baptist Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Henrietta Ray, Ruthie Randle
and Gladys Whitaker, all of Haskell, Wilma Clark of Stamford and
Zepherine Thompson of Snyder; three sons, James Aurther Ray of
New York, N.Y., Hershel Thompson of Viola, Wis., and Alfred Wayne
Thompson of Stamford; one sister, Retha Hammond of Haskell; 36
grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Maurice Ray Cass
Maurice Ray Cass, 62, died Thursday in a local hospital. Services
are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
William Harbin
ROSCOE - William F. Harbin, 97, formerly of Wellington, died
Thursday in a local care center. Services are pending with Adams
Funeral Home of Wellington. Local arrangements were made by McCoy
Funeral Home.

STEPHENVILLE - Paul Wesley "Herman" Reynolds, 27,
died Monday in Statesboro, Ga. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday

Joe Daskevich Jr.
RANGER - Joe W. Daskevich Jr., 81, of Midland and formerly
of Ranger, died Thursday in a Midland hospital. Rosary will be
said at 6 p.m. today in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will
be at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Rita's Catholic Church.
Velma Joyce Tyler
STEPHENVILLE - Velma Joyce Tyler, 53, died Wednesday in a Temple
hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Stephenville

Annie Cornelius
SNYDER - Annie Cornelius, 97, died Monday in a local care center
after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Bell-Cypert-Seale

LUBBOCK - Mary Belle Greene Cummings, 95, mother of an Abilene
resident, died Wednesday at her home. Services will be at 2 p.m.
