Today's Obituaries (Sept. 5, 1998)

Maurice Ray Cass

Maurice Ray Cass, 62, died Thursday in a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South.

Mr. Cass was born in Howard, Kan., and was in the U.S. Navy for 10 years and U.S. Air Force for 10 years until retiring in 1976 from Dyess Air Force Base. He married Joyce Boone in 1957 in Howard, Kan., and served in the Vietnam War. He graduated from Cisco Junior College. He owned and operated Cass Hydraulic in Abilene from 1980 until selling the business in 1997. He was a member of First Christian Church in Howard, Kan.

Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; three sons, Michael Cass, Troy Cass and Scott Cass, all of Abilene; one sister, Louise Alcorn of Wichita, Kan.; three grandchildren; and two step grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to American Heart Association, 149 N. Willis, Abilene 79603.

C.B. Wood

EARLY -- C.B. Wood, 81, of Elm Grove, died Thursday in a Brownwood hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Richland Springs Cemetery with the Rev. Allen Wood officiating, directed by Heartland Funeral Home.

Mr. Wood was born in Richland Springs and lived in Elm Grove for many years. He married Nellie Brown in 1942 in Brady and was a farmer and rancher.

Survivors include his wife, of Elm Grove; one son, Gerald L. Wood of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three daughters, Glenda Houchins of Brownwood, Sharon Haynes of Grand Prairie and Debbie Thompson of San Angelo; one sister, Myrtle Dunning of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Hobard Lee Arms

COLEMAN -- Hobard Lee Arms, 85, died Thursday in a local care center.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today in Walker Funeral Home Chapel with James Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Coleman City Cemetery.

Mr. Arms was born in Sulphur, Okla., and was the widower of Edith Arms. He married Ruby Lee Bozeman in 1971 in San Angelo and was a retired employee of El Paso Natural Gas. He moved to Coleman County in 1981.

Survivors include his wife, of Coleman; two daughters, Dolores Massey of Mesquite and Sandra Crossland of Tacoma, Wash.; two sons, Bob Clark of Crandall and Douglas Clark of San Antonio; one sister, Ollie Jennings of Sulphur, Okla.; two brothers, Homer Arms of Oklahoma City and Tom Arms of Tipton, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene 79605.

William Foster 'Bill' Harbin

WELLINGTON -- William Foster "Bill" Harbin, 97, of Roscoe and formerly of Wellington, died Thursday in a Roscoe care center.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Wellington First Baptist Church with the Rev. Derwin Comer officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, directed by Adams Funeral Home.

Mr. Harbin was born in Quitman and moved to Wellington in 1945. He was a retired farmer and was a past Farmer of the Year in Wellington. He was a director of the Wellington Gin and moved to Roscoe in 1995. He was a deacon at Wellington First Baptist Church and was the widower of Ruby Faulkenberry Harbin, whom he married in 1925 in Childress.

Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Meares of Roscoe; one sister, Fannie Whitten of Amarillo; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Joe William McClung

BROWNWOOD -- Joe William McClung, 80, died Thursday in a Waco hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kason Huddleston officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park.

Mr. McClung was born in Greeley, Colo., and moved to Brownwood in 1947. He was a retired self-employed oilfield worker and was a Methodist.

Survivors include one daughter, Grace Ann Joyner of Bangs; one son, Bill McClung of Highland Village; one stepdaughter, Loretta Sanson of Bowling Green, Ky.; one sister, Eva Garland of Brownwood; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one cousin; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Wayne McBride

Wayne W. McBride, 51, died Thursday at the Abilene State School. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Pedro Ramirez

Pedro P. Ramirez, 74, died Thursday in a local hospital. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Pearl Strickland

HASKELL -- Pearl Strickland, 82, died Friday at her home. Services are pending with Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.

John Henry Foley

PROCTOR -- John Henry Foley, 82, of Copperas Cove and formerly of Proctor, died Wednesday in a Killeen hospital. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Proctor Cemetery, directed by Harrell Funeral Home of Dublin.
