Today's Obituaries (Sept. 10, 1998)

Inez Crawford Moore

Inez Crawford Moore, 80, of Tye, died Monday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Revs. Jim Ritter and Bill Perkins officiating. Burial will be in Tye Cemetery.

Mrs. Moore was born in Hugo, Okla., and attended Abilene High School. She moved to Tye in 1941 and worked for the egg factory, Lankfords, Wooten, Montgomery Wards, Gibson and TGY stores. She was a member of Tye Methodist Church and was the widow of Billy Pat Moore, whom she married in 1936 in Abilene.

Survivors include two sons, Billy Granvel Moore of Kennedale and Eugene Moore of Arlington; one daughter, Dona Mae Griffith of Tye; one brother, Riley Crawford of Abilene; one sister, Irene Alvord of Hereford; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to Tye Cemetery Association or Tye Museum.

Madaline Francis Ligon

Madaline "T9" Ligon, 88, died Wednesday at her home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in North's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange, with the Rev. Archie Echols officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. in Byers Cemetery.

Mrs. Ligon was born in Pottsboro and grew up in Byers. She earned a master's degree from North Texas State University and taught school in Abilene from 1957-75. She was a member of Abilene Repertory and Abilene Radio theaters, and St. Paul United Methodist Church, and was the widow of Wallace Ligon, whom she married in 1933 in Oklahoma.

Survivors include one sister, Venita Thorsheim of Arlington; and one nephew, Martin H. Thorsheim of Arlington.

Retired Air Force Col. Donovan Bowe

Retired U.S. Air Force Col. Donovan K. Bowe, 74, died Wednesday at his home.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Big Country Squadron's Confederate Air Force hangar at Elmdale Airpark. Arrangements were made by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.

Mr. Bowe was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1943. He was stationed at the Tye Army Air Field. He was in the Air Force for 30 years and flew the P-47, P-40, B-47 and B-52. He was a wing commander in the Minuteman Missile Program and taught in the Air Force's Reserve Officers Training Corps program at Stevens Institute of Technology until retiring in 1973. He married his wife in 1946 and graduated from Syracuse University and the University of Mississippi. He was active in the Big Country Squadron of the Confederate Air Force since 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Buch Bowe of Abilene; two sons, Kenneth Michael Bowe of Eugene, Ore., and Claude Milton of Abilene; two daughters, Shelly Bowe of Tillamook, Ore., and Melanie Bowe Michaelis of Wingate; and two grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Big Country or Big Country Squadron of Confederate Air Force.

Addie Bouchillon

SANTA ANNA - Addie E. Bouchillon, 91, of Abilene and formerly of Santa Anna, died Wednesday in an Abilene nursing home.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Santa Anna Cemetery with Jimmy Jones officiating, directed by Henderson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bouchillon was born in Doole and attended school in Santa Anna. She was a homemaker and moved to Abilene in 1962. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was the widow of Robert Merrel Bouchillon, whom she married in 1926 in Coleman.

Survivors include two daughters, Joann Proffitt of Abilene and Audrey Guthrie of Houston; two sons, Bob Bouchillon of New Hope, Ark., and Sam Bouchillon of Abilene; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Pete Barbian Jr.

FORT WORTH - Pete Barbian Jr., 69, formerly of Abilene, died Friday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Benbrook Funeral Home Chapel in Benbrook. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. in Clyde Cemetery.

Mr. Barbian was born in Abilene and moved to Fort Worth in 1977. He was a business owner.

Survivors include his wife, Pauline Barbian of Fort Worth; three sons, Roy Barbian of Baird, C.R. Barbian of Kingsland and Mac Franklin of Bosnia; two daughters, Nancy Norwood of Lueders and Sheila Franklin of Fort Worth; one brother, Jmeyer Barbian of Abilene; one sister, Lena Tate of Dodge City, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Kathryn Parker Allen

CLYDE - Kathryn Parker Allen, 77, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Clyde Cemetery with the Rev. Carlton Earp officiating, directed by Bailey Funeral Home.

Mrs. Allen was born in Rusk County and attended school in Mount Enterprise. She worked for Timex for 11-1/2 years and moved to Clyde in 1986 from Mount Enterprise. She was a registered nurse's aide at Clyde-area nursing homes. She was a Baptist and was the widow of Joseph Allen, whom she married in 1943 in San Antonio.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Luttrell and Judy Gutkowski, both of Abilene; one brother, Kelly Parker Jr. of Mexia; one sister, Agnes Mora of Nacogdoches; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Robert Fletcher Blackburn II

SAN ANGELO - Robert Fletcher Blackburn II, 86, formerly of Stephens County, died Tuesday in a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Gunsight Cemetery in Stephens County. Services were Wednesday in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with Stanley Lockhart officiating.

Mr. Blackburn was born in Gunsight in Stephens County and attended Breckenridge and Cisco High schools. He attended college in Weatherford and married Dixie Miller in 1933 in Cisco. He was an oilfield worker in Odessa in 1936. He moved to Amarillo in the 1930s and San Angelo in 1944. He was a self-employed realtor for 43 years and he and his wife owned Blackburn Realty Co. He was a past president of the San Angelo Real Estate Board.

Survivors include his wife, of San Angelo; two sons, Bob Blackburn of Lubbock and Max Blackburn of San Angelo; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Opal Oleta Brannan

BRECKENRIDGE - Opal Oleta Brannan, 82, died Wednesday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Morehart Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Cecil W. Harper officiating. Burial will be in Breckenridge Cemetery.

Miss Brannan was born in Callahan County and moved to Stephens County at age 3. She graduated from Parks High School in Parks Camp and attended Ranger Junior College and Draughon's Business School. She worked as a legal secretary for L.H. Welch for more than 30 years and was a member of Martha Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.

Survivors include three brothers, Weldon Brannan of Nacogdoches, J.N. Brannan of Breckenridge and Ray Brannan of Odessa; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church and left at the funeral home.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

John Winn

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - John B. Winn, 73, formerly of Trent, died Tuesday at his home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Shinn Funeral Service Chapel with the Revs. Don Rose and Stephen Davis officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Mr. Winn was born in Trent and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a retired electrician of Exxon Pipeline Co. He was a member of Crow Mountain Baptist Church and was the widower of Carleta Hood Winn.

Survivors include his wife, Vallie J. Winn of Russellville; one son, Jay Kemp Winn of Russellville; one stepson, Roger Prince of Casper, Wyo.; one stepdaughter, Elaine Carroll of Russellville; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Winn Duncan of Russellville and Rita Mae Taylor of Houston; three grandchildren; six step grandchildren; and four step great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to American Cancer Society.

Edward Osborn Bernard

BROWNWOOD - Edward Osborn Bernard, 67, died Tuesday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Friday in Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early with the Rev. Pat McClatchy officiating.

Mr. Bernard was born in Dallas and served with the U.S. Navy. He received a Silver Service Cross. He married Jo Ann Forrest in 1953 in Inglewood, Calif., and worked as a machinery repairman in the manufacturing industry until retiring. He moved to Brownwood in 1990 from Oxnard, Calif., and was a Methodist.

Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; one son, Scott Wayne Bernard of Brownwood; four daughters, Deborah Tinnin of Denver, Nicolia Summers and Valarie Woodworth, both of Brownwood, and Karen Bernard of Dallas; two sisters, Charlene Clark and Colette Bernard, both of California; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Willie Brunette Jackson

SWEETWATER - Willie Brunette Jackson, 88, formerly of Roscoe, died Monday in a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Roscoe Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Addington officiating, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jackson was born in Roscoe and was a lifelong resident of the Roscoe-Sweetwater area. She graduated from Loraine High School and was a homemaker. She was a member of Roscoe First Methodist Church and was the widow of Buford C. Jackson, whom she married in 1930 in Loraine.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Faust of Pasadena and Melba Smith of Idalou; two sisters, Polly Brazil of Sweetwater and Marie Blackstock of Kermit; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Buena 'Chris' Brock

Buena "Chris" Brock died Wednesday in a local nursing home. Services are pending with North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.

Michael Chesser

GOLDTHWAITE - Michael Chesser, of Louisiana, died Wednesday in Louisiana. Services are pending with Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home.

Thurman Gentry

BIG SPRING - Thurman E. Gentry, 93, died Wednesday in a local nursing home. Services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Nick Grba

GOLDTHWAITE - Nick Grba died Wednesday in Goldthwaite. Services are pending with Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home.

Terry Martin McNutt

STRAWN - Terry Martin McNutt, 51, of Lake Palo Pinto, died Monday at his home after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Church By The Lake, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.

David Berten

RISING STAR - David Berten, 76, died Wednesday at his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Rising Star Church of Christ, directed by Higginbotham Funeral Home.

Irene Kelly Robinson

BRECKENRIDGE - Irene Kelly Robinson, 92, formerly of Breckenridge, died Tuesday in a San Angelo hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Breckenridge Cemetery, directed by Melton Funeral Home.

Joan Jorgenson

DUBLIN - Joan C. Jorgenson, 80, died Wednesday in a Stephenville hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Harrell Funeral Home Memorial Chapel.

Lana Sands

OCALA, Fla. - Lana Sands, 53, sister of two Abilene residents, died Monday at her home. No services are planned. Arrangements were made by Forest Lawn Funeral Home.

Wayne Reed

SWEETWATER - Wayne Reed, 65, died Tuesday in an Abilene hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Broadway Baptist Church, directed by Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

Byron Gray

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS - Byron E. Gray, 77, formerly of Abilene, died Aug. 14 in a local hospital. Services were Aug. 17 in Richland Hills United Methodist Church, directed by Lucas Funeral Home of Hurst.

F.S. Eades

SNYDER - F.S. Eades, 91, of Denton and formerly of Snyder, died Monday in a Denton hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel.
