Today's Obituaries (Sept. 29, 1998)

I.A. Parmer

I.A. Parmer, 78, of Abilene, a charter member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church, died Sunday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Highway 277 South, with Chaplain Price Mathieson and the Rev. Stan Allcorn officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Parmer was born in Killeen and graduated from high school in Harold. He moved to Abilene in 1952 and was a self-employed oil and gas producer.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Parmer of Abilene; four daughters, Gayle Corry of Irving, Patsy Devereaux of Arlington and Kathy Tidmore and Carolyn Lilly, both of Abilene; one son, David Green of Dumas; one sister, Dorothy Keener of Odessa; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Hollie Harrison Washburn Sr.

Hollie Harrison Washburn Sr., 74, of Abilene died Sunday at a local hospital.

The body will be cremated, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. There will be no service in Abilene.

Mr. Washburn was born in McKinney and recently moved to Abilene from Whitewright. He was an auto parts dealer and a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and the Coast Guard Reserves. He was a Baptist and a lifetime member of a Masonic Lodge in Norwalk, Ohio. He married Margaret Tudor in 1955 in Georgia; she preceded him in death.

Survivors include two sons, Hollie H. Washburn Jr. of Carthage, Ind., and Guy Alan Washburn of Lancaster, Calif.; one daughter, Beverly Snyder of Abilene; one brother, J.B. Washburn of McKinney; one sister, Mary Delores Sanderson of Whitewright; and five grandchildren.

Amilee Moore

Amilee Moore, 84, of Lawn died Monday at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Oplin Cemetery with Leo Holloway, Johnny Warren, Larry Bryan and Mike Moore officiating, directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.

Mrs. Moore was born in Oplin and had lived in Lawn and Taylor County all her life. She was a member of Lawn Church of Christ and had been a foster grandparent at Abilene State School. She married James Herbert Moore in 1929 in Burkett; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Ben Hal Moore of Cumby; two daughters, Avenell Holloway and Trudy Welch, both of Abilene; two brothers, J.R. Poindexter and Gene Poindexter, both of Oplin; one sister, Mary Floyd of Newark; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Oplin Cemetery Association, 19176 F.M. 604 South, Clyde 79510; or Windcrest Alzheimer's Care Center, 6050 Hospital Drive, Abilene 79606.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Bonnie Corder

Bonnie E. Corder, 83, died Friday at a local hospital.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Wolf Valley Cemetery near Rising Star with Bob D. Connel officiating, directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.

Mrs. Corder was born in Shive (Hamilton County) and had lived in Abilene since 1943. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was the widow of John F. Corder.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Powers of Sacramento, Calif.; two sons, Gerald Corder of Grand Prairie and Tommy Corder of Seattle, Wash.; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene 79605.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7-8 p.m. today.

Ronald Wayne Hamil

Ronald Wayne Hamil, 61, of Abilene died Sunday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Baker Heights Church of Christ with Greg Hardegree officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Woodland Park Cemetery in Mineral Wells with Brad Fry officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mr. Hamil was born in Caddo.

Survivors include his mother, Vivian O. Hamil of Abilene; three brothers, Donald E. Hamil of Houston, Fred A. Hamil of Corpus Christi and Edward L. Hamil of Abilene; one sister, Barbara J. Condron of Duncanville; and several nieces and nephews.

Marie Oliver Kelley

SPUR - Marie Oliver Kelley, 88, died Saturday in Abilene.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Highway 70 Church of Christ with David Mickey officiating. Burial will be in Spur Memorial Cemetery, directed by Campbell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kelley was born in Pride (Dawson County) and lived in Spur from 1915 until moving to Abilene in 1992. She graduated from Abilene Christian University and retired after teaching in Spur and McAdoo schools for 32 years. She was a member of Spur Art Guild and the Church of Christ and was a World Bible Class Teacher for Africa. She married Oscar Kelley in 1932 in Spur; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Chris Kelley of Spring and Phil Kelley of Houston; two daughters, Carolyn Mickey and Kathleen Schubert, both of Abilene; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Joe Cumby

BOWIE - Joe G. Cumby, 67, formerly of Abilene, died Saturday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Jamie Reed officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie, directed by Burgess-Fry-Owens-Brumley Funeral Home.

Mr. Cumby was born in Ovalo and had lived in Bowie for 25 years. He was retired from Bailey Construction Company in Abilene and was a Baptist. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict and a lifetime member of Reddy-McClellan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8789. He married Lanna Jo Wood in 1981 in Abilene.

Survivors include his wife of Bowie; one daughter, Donna Bird of Midlothian; three sons, Joe Cumby of Midlothian, Mickey Gene Reynolds of Lake Arrowhead and Carl Eugene Reynolds of Bowie; four brothers, Billy Doyle Cumby of Carrollton, Gerald Cumby of Burleson, Randall Lynn Cumby of Altus, Okla., and Tony Dale Cumby of North Richland Hills; eight grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. today.

Daisy Mildred Johnson

ARLINGTON - Daisy Mildred Johnson, 63, died Saturday at her home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Arlington Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday in New Hope Cemetery in Jones County.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Jones County and graduated from Anson High School in 1951. She was retired from the Arlington Independent School District.

Survivors include her husband, Tommy Joe Johnson of Arlington; two sons, Rick Johnson of Cedar Hill and Tommy Johnson of Fort Worth; three brothers, Cleo Jones and Doc Jones, both of Stamford, and Tony Jones of Anson; and five grandchildren.

The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Robert Buck Jr.

ROBY - Robert Buck Jr., 73, died Saturday at an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Weathersbee Funeral Home Chapel with Curtis Ward and Mike Terry officiating. The body will be cremated.

Mr. Buck was born in Wichita Falls and was a lifelong resident of Fisher County. He was a tax assessor for 26 years and a member of the Church of Christ and Who's Who of County Officials. He was a veteran of World War II and a 30-year member of Masonic Lodge. He married Kay Meeks in 1947 in Paris, Texas.

Survivors include his wife of Roby; one son, Terry Buck of Roby; one daughter, Bobbie Brown of Waco; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Orville Taylor

SNYDER - Orville L. Taylor, 85, died Sunday at his home after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel.

B.J. Ditto

BRECKENRIDGE - B.J. Ditto, 75, of Weatherford and formerly of Breckenridge, died Saturday at his home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Melton Funeral Home.

Raymond Barrow

Raymond C. Barrow, 64, died Monday at a Big Spring hospital. Services are pending with North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.

Eduvijes Ruby Alfaro

BALLINGER - Eduvijes Ruby Alfaro, 93, died Sunday in San Angelo. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, directed by Rains-Seale Funeral Home.

Jerry Jones

Jerry L. Jones, 71, of Abilene died Monday at a local hospital. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Shawn Lewis Davis

Shawn Lewis Davis, infant son of Mack and Heather Davis, died Monday at an Abilene hospital. Services are pending with Bailey Funeral Home in Clyde.

Gean Witt

HAMLIN - Gean Witt, 73, died Monday at an Anson hospital. Services are pending with Foster-Adams Funeral Home.
