HSU board of trustees chairman dies
George Robert "Bob" Bryan, chairman of the board
of trustees at Hardin-Simmons University, died in Dallas Thursday
after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services are pending at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas.
Bryan, a 1967 graduate of Hardin-Simmons, was a past president
of Enserch Energy Services Inc. and lived in Dallas.
A 1963 graduate of Cooper High School, Bryan served two years
as a naval officer before joining Lone Star Gas in 1969.
His mother, Frances Bryan, still lives in Abilene, and his
father, I.G. Bryan, is deceased.
Bryan attended the board of trustees meeting at Hardin-Simmons
in August although he was in ill health at the time, suffering
from cancer, said Dr. W. Craig Turner, executive vice president
and chief academic officer at the university.
His health had taken a turn for the worse recently, Turner
said.
"He had really deteriorated the last two weeks,"
Turner said.
Bryan served on the board of trustees for the past nine years.
"Mr. Bryan was an outstanding leader, a thoughtful Christian
gentleman and a fine human being," said HSU President Dr.
Lanny Hall. "As a trustee, he was known for his financial
expertise, his strong decision-making ability and his sense of
humor."
Birdie Jean Lackey Hunter
Birdie Jean Lackey Hunter, 67, died Thursday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral
Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Charles Sinks officiating.
Burial will be in Potosi Cemetery.
Mrs. Hunter was born in Abilene and graduated from Abilene
High School. She was a retired beautician and was a member of
the Church of Christ.
Survivors include one daughter, Sharon Hunter of Abilene; and
several cousins.
Betty Jo Moser
VALERA - Betty Jo Moser, 61, died Wednesday in a Houston care
center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Valera Baptist Church
with the Rev. Clyde Butter officiating. Burial will be in Valera
Cemetery, directed by Walker Funeral Home of Coleman.
Mrs. Moser was born in Ballinger and lived in Coleman County
most of her life. She worked as a contract mail carrier. She was
a member of Valera Baptist Church and was the widow of Robert
E. Moser, whom she married in 1954 in Valera.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Lamkin of Katy and Thressa
Yoder of San Antonio; one son, Kenneth Wayne "Butch"
Moser of San Antonio; her mother, Marie Cowlishaw of Ballinger;
four sisters, Emma Smith and Ruby Wearden, both of Ballinger,
Martha Carter of Arlington and Judy Lippie of Wylie; one brother,
Jimmy Cowlishaw of McKinney; and six grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to The Hospice at the Medical Center,
1905 Holcombe, Houston 77030.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Tommy Lloyd Latimer Jr.
BENJAMIN - Tommy Lloyd Latimer Jr., 50, formerly of Benjamin,
died Tuesday in a Wichita Falls hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Benjamin Methodist Church
with the Rev. Ken Follis officiating. Burial will be in Benjamin
Cemetery, directed by McCauley-Smith Funeral Home of Munday.
Mr. Latimer was born in Knox City, where he formerly lived,
and served with the U.S. Navy in the Vietnam War. He worked as
a flight engineer and was a member of First Christian Church in
Knox City.
Survivors include three sons, Greg Latimer, Troy Latimer and
Tommy Latimer III, all of San Antonio; his mother, Betty Mancille
of Benjamin; and one brother, Jimmy Mancille of Austin.
Henry O'Neil Kelley
COMANCHE - Henry O'Neil "H.O." Kelley, 95, owner
and operator of Kelley's Generator, Magnita and Alternator Shop
for more than 40 years until retiring, died Thursday in a local
hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hall & Sons Funeral
Home Chapel with the Rev. John Upshaw officiating. Burial will
be in Comanche Gardens of Memory.
Mr. Kelley was born in Mount Pleasant and moved to Comanche
in 1950. He was the widower of Leoma Bell Kelley. He married Lillie
Kincheloe in 1982 and was a member of Central Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Comanche; one son, Thomas R.
Kelley of Lubbock; one daughter, Dorothy Bell of Amarillo; three
sisters, Loyce Duncan of Arkansas, and Sally Engle and Annie Owens,
both of Fort Worth; one brother, Charlie Kelley of Denton; and
10 grandchildren.
Memorials may be sent to Central Christian Church.
Annabelle Chrane Parker
BROWNWOOD - Annabelle Chrane Parker, 103, of Fort Worth and
formerly of Brownwood, died Tuesday in Fort Worth.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Greenleaf Cemetery,
directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Parker was born in the Brownwood area, where she lived
for many years, and worked as a saleslady for about 40 years at
Peerless Drug in Brownwood. She moved to Fort Worth in 1979 and
was a former member of Austin Avenue Church of Christ in Brownwood.
She was a member of Western Hills Church of Christ in Fort Worth
and was the widow of Charles C. Parker, whom she married in 1911.
Survivors include one daughter, Allene Skiles of Fort Worth;
one son, Howard Parker of Dallas; four grandchildren; several
great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and one niece.
Ralph Bergeron
Ralph Bergeron, 43, of Merkel, died Thursday in a Lubbock hospital.
Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Oscar Tyler
CROSS PLAINS - Oscar Tyler, 83, died Thursday in an Abilene
hospital. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Higginbotham
Funeral Home Chapel.
John 'Johnny' Collie
MARFA - John "Johnny" H. Collie, 103, relative of
an Abilene resident, died Thursday in a Big Spring hospital. Services
will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.

CREWS - Sam D. Faubion, 79, died Thursday in Abilene. Services
will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Rains-Seale Funeral Home Chapel
in Ballinger.
