Today's Obituaries (Oct. 10, 1998)

Ralph Bergeron

Ralph Bergeron, 43, died Thursday in a Lubbock hospital.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Arthur Lowe officiating. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Leo Catholic Church in Leonville, La., directed by Lafond-Ardoin's Funeral Home of Opelousas, La.

Mr. Bergeron was born in Leonville, La., and graduated from Port Barre High School. He married Susan Kraatz in 1978 in Leonville, La., and moved to Abilene in 1993 from Atlanta. He worked as operations manager for Big Tex Crude Oil Co. in Abilene.

Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; three sons, Scotty Bergeron, Chris Bergeron and Eric Bergeron, all of Abilene; one daughter, Amanda Bergeron of Abilene; his mother, Pearl Bergeron of Opelousas, La.; two brothers, Clyde Bergeron of Opelousas, La., and Michael Bergeron of Atlanta; and four sisters, Mildred Isreal of Atlanta, and Wendy Bergeron, Rose Bergeron and Rita Bergeron, all of Opelousas, La.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. today in the funeral home.

Leo 'Shag' Brooks

EASTLAND -- Leo E. "Shag" Brooks, 87, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today in Murray Cemetery in Carbon with the Rev. Jimmy Maples officiating, directed by Bakker Funeral Home.

Mr. Brooks was born in Abilene and grew up in Stonewall County. He moved to Eastland County in 1940 and lived in Carbon for many years. He married Alice Leatherman in 1942 in San Antonio. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a retired farmer and rancher.

Survivors include his wife, of Eastland; and many nieces and nephews.

Oscar Tyler

CROSS PLAINS -- Oscar C. Tyler, 83, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel with V.D. Walters officiating. Burial will be in Cross Plains Cemetery.

Mr. Tyler married Faye Stephens in 1936 in Baird.

Survivors include his wife, of Cross Plains; one son, Jerry Wayner Tyler of Brownwood; three daughters, Joyce Jones of Abilene, Lynda Edington of Burkett and Debbie Reed of Cross Plains; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

John 'Johnny' Collie

MARFA -- John "Johnny" H. Collie, 103, relative of an Abilene resident, died Thursday in a Big Spring hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Funeral Home Chapel.

Sam Faubion

CREWS -- Sam D. Faubion, 79, died Thursday in Abilene. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Rains-Seale Funeral Home Chapel in Ballinger.

Dean Tolbert

BRECKENRIDGE -- Dean Tolbert, 75, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Morehart Mortuary Chapel.

Lola Bell Meador Fant Boyd

THROCKMORTON -- Lola Bell Meador Fant Boyd, 90, died Wednesday in a local nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Merriman-Archer Funeral Home Chapel.

Loys Perishing 'L.P.' Hammond

BROWNWOOD -- Loys Perishing "L.P." Hammond, 79, died Wednesday in a local hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Desdemona First Baptist Church, directed by Nowlin Funeral Home of De Leon.

Bertha Ann Carter

RISING STAR -- Bertha Ann Carter, 99, of Granbury, died Wednesday in Granbury. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel.
