Martin Gonzalez
Martin Enrique "Teener" Gonzalez, 18, a senior at
Abilene High School, died Oct. 8 from injuries received in an
automobile accident near Menard.
Services were Friday at The Door Church in Tucson, Ariz. Burial
was in Evergreen Cemetery in Tucson, directed by Evergreen Mortuary
of Tucson.
Martin was born in Morenci, Ariz., and moved to Abilene last
summer when his father was named pastor of The Door Christian
Fellowship. He was song leader for the church and played in the
church's band.
Survivors include his parents, the Rev. Alfredo and Mary Lou
Gonzalez of Abilene; one brother, Alfredo Gregory Gonzalez Jr.
of Tucson; two sisters, Nora Beth Gonzalez of Abilene and Rachael
Vegoda of Tucson; and his grandparents, Isabel Salcido of Silver
City, N.M. and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert T. Gonzalez of Safford, Ariz.
Sheila Badon
Sheila Badon, 26, died Oct. 8 from injuries received in an
automobile accident near Menard.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Lincoln Park Baptist Church
in Hammond, La. Burial will be in Holly Gardens in Hammond, directed
by N.A. James Funeral Home of Hammond.
Ms. Badon was born in Independence, La., and graduated from
high school in Los Angeles. She attended college in Los Angeles
before moving to Abilene, where she worked as an assistant house
manager at Serenity House. She was a referee for basketball and
volleyball leagues at First Baptist Church's Family Life Center.
She taught Sunday school at The Door Christian Fellowship.
Survivors include her parents, Joyce Patterson of Los Angeles
and Jerry Young of Hammond; two brothers, Jerome Badon of Abilene
and Calvin Young of Hammond; and one sister, Chimetia Alexander
of Erlanger, Ky.
Betty Mae Selvera
COLORADO CITY -- Betty Mae Selvera, 68, died Thursday in a
local hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Kiker-Seale Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. James Sanders officiating. Graveside services
will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Antlers Cemetery in Antlers, Okla.
Mrs. Selvera was born in Shannon, Texas, and grew up in Antlers,
Okla. She married Ray Selvera in 1968 in Albany and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, of Colorado City; three sons,
James Halsel of Abilene, Thomas Halsel of Wilmington, N.C., and
Joel Selvera of Colorado City; three daughters, Clyrene Airheart
of Mason, Linda Melton of Eagle River, Alaska, and Angie Tovar
of Colorado City; three brothers, Vance Walters of Antlers, Okla.,
Asa Walters of Cisco and Wayne Walters of Eunice, N.M.; and many
grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Helen Swafford
BAIRD -- Helen Swafford, 73, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Parker Funeral Home Chapel
with Bob Sweeten officiating. Burial will be in Ross Cemetery
Annex.
Mrs. Swafford was born in Searcy, Ark., and married Leonard
Swafford in 1948 in Yuma, Ariz. She was a homemaker. She lived
in De Leon for 14 years, Baird for two years and Comanche for
two years before returning to Baird in 1998. She was a member
of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, of Baird; one daughter, Tracy
Harris of Houston; one son, Stacy Swafford of Houston; three sisters,
Betty Jean Hawkins of Wichita, Kan., Zel Glass of Sweetwater and
Patsy Young of North Platte, Neb.; two brothers, Bud Poole of
Denver and Bob Poole of Sacramento, Calif.; one grandchild; and
many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be sent to American Cancer Society.
Shelton Phillips
MUNDAY -- Shelton Phillips, 84, lifelong local resident, died
Friday in a Seymour hospital.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Johnson Memorial
Cemetery with Jeff Christian officiating, directed by McCauley-Smith
Funeral Home.
Mr. Phillips was born in Munday and married Lois Mae Warren
in 1940 in Wichita Falls. He was a retired cotton gin manager
and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Charles Phillips of Houston;
one sister, Docia Garnier of Mineral Wells; three brothers, Nolen
Phillips and John Phillips, both of Munday, and Marion Phillips
of Oklahoma City; and several nieces and nephews.
Onetta Bridwell Marshall
BROWNWOOD -- Onetta (Mrs. Tiny) Bridwell Marshall, 82, formerly
of Wichita Falls, died Friday at her home.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Charlie Cemetery
in Clay County with the Rev. Bobby Christmas officiating, directed
by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
Mrs. Marshall was born in Wichita Falls, where she lived most
of her life, and was a retired beautician. She moved to Brownwood
in 1996. She was a member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church in
Wichita Falls and was the widow of Tiny Bridwell and Grady Marshall.
Survivors include two daughters, Sue South and Judy Emley,
both of Brownwood; one son, Buddie Ellis Bridwell of Iowa Park;
one stepson, E.W. Bridwell of Houston; two sisters, her twin,
Loretta Kiser, and Bessie Crumpler, both of Wichita Falls; eight
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Felix Gutierrez
SNYDER -- Felix Gutierrez, 81, died Friday in a local hospital.
Services are pending with Wright Colonial Funeral Home.
Chester Miller
EASTLAND -- Chester E. Miller, 90, died Thursday at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel.
Jose Prieto
SNYDER -- Jose G. Prieto, 88, died Thursday in a local care
center after a lengthy illness. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m.
today in Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at
2 p.m. Sunday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Harold Lee Pearce
BIG SPRING -- Harold Lee Pearce, 68, died Friday at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Nalley-Pickle & Welch
Funeral Home Rosewood Chapel.
Dolores Rios Jr.
SNYDER -- Dolores M. Rios Jr., 74, died Wednesday in Vernon.
Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today in Wright Colonial Funeral
Home Chapel. Mass will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in St. Elizabeth Catholic
Church.
Lois Marie Poston
BRECKENRIDGE -- Lois Marie Poston, 70, died Thursday in a local
nursing home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Melton Funeral
Home Chapel.
Fred Kupatt
SAGERTON -- Fred Kupatt, 71, died Friday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Faith Lutheran Church, directed
by Tankersley Funeral Home of Stamford. Visitation will be 5:30-7
p.m. today in the funeral home.
