Paul Mayo

Paul R. Mayo, 72, died Wednesday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today in St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Rev. Archie Echols officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. in Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas, directed by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.

Mr. Mayo graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas in 1943 and the University of Texas. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He worked as a roustabout for Bridwell Oil Co. in Wichita Falls from 1950-52. He then was a geologist for Consolidated Oil in Wichita Falls until 1954. He then became an independent geologist and oil operator. He moved to Abilene in 1979 from Dallas and married Robbie Foust in 1982 in Abilene. He was a member of West Texas Geological Society, Petroleum Geologists and Propheteers Class at St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; one son, Randy Mayo of San Antonio; one daughter, Leanne Finlayson of Brazoria; one stepdaughter, Michelle Harrison of Quinlan; two stepsons, Greg Foust of Plano and Mark Foust of Oklahoma City; his mother, Earline Mayo of Abilene; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 525 Beech, Abilene 79601.

Retired Chief Master Sgt. Lance Trigg Jr.

Retired U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Lance Trigg Jr., 79, died Thursday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South, with Dr. Tom Thomson officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Mr. Trigg was born in Grapevine and flew in the Berlin Airlift during World War II. He received a Bronze Star Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal and retired from the Air Force after a 30-year career in 1971. He moved to Abilene in 1969 following a tour of duty in Vietnam. He married Martha Janette Jarvies in 1950 in Fort Worth. He was a volunteer at the Dyess Air Force Base Hospital and was a life member of the Dyess AFB Chief's Group. He also was a member of Euless Masonic Lodge 582, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6873 and Harvester's Class at Abilene First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; three daughters, Janice Russ of Lubbock, Lana Trigg of Abilene and Linda Bell of Kirbyville; his twin sisters, Lorene Moren and Lovene Thurman, both of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren; and one nephew.

Memorials may be sent to First United Methodist Church, 1318 S. 2nd, Abilene 79602.

Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Vaughn Addison

LIPAN -- Vaughn Addison, 77, father of an Abilene resident, died Wednesday at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Lipan Church of Christ with Robin Verdugo and the Rev. Wayne Ford officiating. Burial will be in Allison Cemetery in Hood County, directed by Wiley Chapel.

Mr. Addison was born in Lipan, where he was a lifelong resident, and was a rancher.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Addison of Lipan; one son, John Addison of Abilene; one daughter, Ann Stobaugh of Lipan; two brothers, Garth Addison and R.W. Addison, both of Lipan; and three grandchildren.

Agnes 'Granny Ag' Sullivent

EASTLAND -- Agnes "Granny Ag" Sullivent, 88, died Wednesday in a local care center.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Eastland First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Jimmy Maples and Rex Boggs officiating. Burial will be in Eastland City Cemetery, directed by Edwards Funeral Home.

Mrs. Sullivent was born in Bell County, where she attended school, and moved to Eastland in 1930. She worked as a cook at the Old Rip Cafe for 13 years and also was a farmer and rancher. She was a member of Carbon Christ Center Full Gospel Church and was the widow of Hubert Elmer Sullivent, whom she married in 1926 in Cow Creek.

Survivors include three daughters, Louise Hodges of Olden, Venna Maples of Carbon and Princess Krantz of Eastland; one son, Elmer Sullivent of Olden; one brother, A.J. Thomas of Eastland; three sisters, Vera Owen of Sheridan, Ark., Ida Notgrass of Abilene and Geneva Rush of Clovis, N.M.; 31 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; 77 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to Meals on Wheels, 605 S. College, Eastland 76448.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Margaret Phillips

GRANBURY -- Margaret Phillips, 93, mother of two Big Country residents, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Wiley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Granbury Cemetery.

Mrs. Phillips was born in Hood County and lived in the Granbury area for 90 years. She taught school in Granbury, Waples, Temple Hall and Canadian before retiring. She was a member of Granbury First United Methodist Church and was the widow of Festus Clay "Catfish" Phillips, whom she married in 1933 in Granbury.

Survivors include one son, Clay Phillips of Granbury; two daughters, Lola Margaret Randel of Abilene and Mary Jo Dozier of Coleman; one sister, Lola Maude Sears of Granbury; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Cleatus Highnote Busby

HASKELL -- Cleatus Highnote Busby, 78, lifelong Haskell County resident, died Wednesday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Trinity Baptist Church with Kenneth Blair officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Busby was born in Knox City and graduated from Haskell High School in 1937. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and was the widow of Luther Highnote, whom she married in 1943 in Junction.

Survivors include two sons, David Highnote and Billy Mac Carrigan, both of Abilene; two brothers, O.M. McLain of Dallas and Bob McLain of Grapevine; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Bea Current

BIG SPRING -- Bea Current, 80, died Thursday in a local hospital after a long illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Myers & Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rodney Tedford and Malcolm Pointon officiating.

Mrs. Current was born in Wichita Falls and was a homemaker. She also worked as an insurance agent and beautician. At the time of her death, she was the Texas advisor for the National Republican Committee. She taught a ladies Bible class for many years and was a member of 11th and Birdwell Church of Christ. She was the widow of George C. Current, whom she married in 1935 in Carrizozo, N.M.

Survivors include one son, Jaren Current of Humble; two daughters, Nadine Long and Sue Henson, both of Big Spring; one brother, Melvin Allen of Evant; four sisters, Cleo Hendon, Agnes Bush and Wanda Ledbetter, all of Wichita Falls, and Margaret Johnson of Abilene; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family will be at 1710 E. 15th St.

Neoma Lea Berry Barnett

STAMFORD -- Neoma Lea Berry Barnett, 83, died Tuesday at her home.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today in Highland Memorial Cemetery, directed by Kinney Funeral Home.

Mrs. Barnett was born in Montague County and was a lifelong Texas resident. She moved to Stamford in 1948 from Athens and was the widow of Terrell William Berry Sr. She married Jay Barnett in 1960 in Seymour.

Survivors include her husband, of Stamford; three children, Terrell William "Bill" Berry of Ontario, Calif., Glen Allen Berry of Vidor and Virginia Elizabeth Green of Houston; four stepchildren, Billie Humphries of Waxahachie, Virginia Marie Bandy of Dallas, Ann Bryant of Bailey and Thomas Wayne Berry of Salina, Kan.; three sisters, Laverne Smith of Memphis, Tenn., Ruby Jean Parr of Bowie and Pat Purdy of Philadelphia, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Dan Reed

IRVING -- Dan Reed, 58, formerly of Eastland County, died Wednesday.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Plymouth Park United Methodist Church with Dr. Dan Hoke officiating. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery in Cisco with Dr. James Poe officiating, directed by Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home.

Mr. Reed was born in Eastland and grew up in Cisco. He married Brenda Posey in 1962 in Cisco and worked as a truck driver for Consolidated Freightways in Dallas.

Survivors include his wife, of Irving; two sons, Brad Reed of Coppell and Danny Reed of Aledo; one sister, Madge Key of Las Vegas, Nev.; and four grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Stephen Ministry Program, c/o Plymouth Park United Methodist Church, 1615 W. Airport Fwy, Irving 75062; or American Cancer Society.

William 'Bill' Little

STAMFORD -- William H. "Bill" Little, 87, lifelong local resident, died Wednesday in Dallas.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John's United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Irvin officiating. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery in Avoca, directed by Tankersley Funeral Home.

Mr. Little was born in Stamford, where he married Altie Mae Rial in 1937, and was a retired field superintendent of E.L. Wilson Oil Co. He was a member of the Stamford Masonic Lodge and St. John's United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Stamford; one daughter, Patsy Hammack of Richardson; and one grandchild.

Vera Vanclief Tackett

DUBLIN -- Vera Vanclief Tackett, 91, lifelong local resident, died Wednesday in a Stephenville hospital.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Harrell Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Bob Beeman officiating. Burial will be in Barbee Cemetery in Erath County.

Mrs. Tackett was born in Shiloh in Erath County and was a homemaker. She also worked as a secretary for many years at Laural Street Methodist Church. She was a longtime member of County Home Demonstration Club. She also was a member of Purvis Quilting Club and Laural Street Methodist Church and was the widow of James Elder Tackett, whom she married in 1925 in Dublin.

Survivors include one daughter, Madge Ply of Mesquite; two sons, Wyndel Tackett of Athens, Texas, and Dr. Jesse Tackett of Stephenville; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Barbee Cemetery Association or Laural Street Methodist Church.

Ruby Lee Jenkins

COLORADO CITY -- Ruby Lee Jenkins, 57, of Miami, Fla., and formerly of Colorado City, died Monday in a Miami hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in 22nd & Austin Streets Church of Christ with Euless Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Mitchell County Cemetery, directed by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jenkins was born in Haskell and married Matthew Jenkins in Colorado City. She worked as a housekeeper and was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, of Miami, Fla.; one daughter, Bridgette Jenkins of Miami, Fla.; one brother, Roy Scott of Colorado City; three sisters, Lorene Scott and Darlene Wilbert, both of Colorado City, and Maxine White of Big Spring; and three grandchildren.

Georgia Ruth Watley

AMARILLO -- Georgia Ruth Watley, 71, mother of a Rising Star resident, died Wednesday in Amarillo.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Beck and Scott Davis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, directed by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Watley was born in Jericho and lived in Amarillo most of her life. She graduated from Groom High School and attended West Texas State University in Canyon. She was a homemaker and also worked as a seamstress. She attended Faith Baptist Church and was the widow of Mark Watley, whom she married in 1946.

Survivors include one son, Jim Watley of Amarillo; three daughters, Carol Gowdy and Anne Smith, both of Amarillo, and Debra Jones of Rising Star; one brother, Ernest Spangler of Amarillo; one sister, Mickey Matthews of Mabank; 15 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to Child Evangelism Fellowship.

Henry Heredia

COLORADO CITY -- Henry Heredia, 84, died Wednesday in a local care center.

Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today in Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Ann's Catholic Church with the Rev. Ray Wilhelm officiating. Burial will be in Colorado City Cemetery.

Mr. Heredia was born in Presidio and lived in Colorado City most of his life. He married Florencia M. Madrid in 1937 in Colorado City and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an agricultural laborer and was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Colorado City; three sons, Manuel Heredia and Ramon Heredia, both of Odessa, and Thomas Heredia of Kermit; four daughters, Mary Aguilar, Lupe Contreras and Anita Heredia, all of Colorado City, and Jessie Franco of Odessa; 20 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Bob Pitts

BROWNWOOD -- Bob Pitts, 82, died Thursday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday in Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R.J. Elkins officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery.

Mr. Pitts lived in Brownwood most of his life and was a retired owner and operator of an appliance and repair business. He was a former volunteer firefighter in Brownwood and was a member of Knights of Pythias and Coggin Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Tula Pitts of Brownwood; one daughter, Nadine Pitts of Brownwood; five stepchildren, Sharon Murphy of Houston, Janice Shaffstall of Dallas, Al Clement of Santa Ana, Calif., Ruthie Armstrong of Norman, Okla., and Butch Perry of Fort Worth; one sister, Juanita Hughes of Early; eight grandchildren; and many great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Edith Cervenka

COLEMAN -- Edith (Mrs. H.C.) Cervenka, 94, died Thursday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Walker Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Robinett officiating. Burial will be in Coleman City Cemetery.

Mrs. Cervenka was born in Talpa and attended Mayer Business College in Fresno, Calif. She was a homemaker and moved to Coleman County in 1936. She was the widow of H.C. Cervenka, whom she married in 1921 in Williams County.

Survivors include one son, Joe Cervenka of Coleman; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be sent to Hospice of the Big Country, 3113 Oldham Lane, Abilene 79602.

Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Fred Maxwell

BROWNWOOD -- Fred Maxwell, 69, died recently.

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Rocky Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Jack Ruth officiating, directed by Heartland Funeral Home of Early.

Mr. Maxwell was born in Cleburne and formerly lived in Washington. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He married Joyce Chapman in 1959 in Fort Worth and worked as a heavy equipment operator in road construction. He was a member of American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; three sons, Fredrick Austin Maxwell of Corpus Christi, and Jesse Rodney Maxwell and Joseph Daniel Maxwell, both of Brownwood; four brothers, Norman Maxwell of Joshua, Earl Maxwell of Stephenville, Douglas Maxwell of Bowie and Donald Maxwell of Cleburne; two sisters, Frances Sanders and Hazel Westerman, both of Cleburne; and six grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to American Cancer Society.

John Griggs

BROWNWOOD -- John B. Griggs, 80, died Wednesday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Southside Baptist Church with the Rev. Alan Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Memorial Park, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Mr. Griggs was born in Elora, Tenn., and maried Marie Morrison in 1941 in Brady. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean conflict. He retired from the Army as a chief warrant officer. He moved to Brownwood in 1975 and was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Brownwood; three daughters, Sharron Welch of Bellevue, Wash., Ginny Snyder of Sellersville, Pa., and Carolyn Burke of Castro Valley, Calif.; one sister, Evelyn Waldrop of Tennessee; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Danny Ray Treece

Danny Ray Treece, 50, died Wednesday in Paramaribo, Suriname, South America. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Eddie Eugene Cole

BLACKWELL -- Eddie Eugene Cole, 64, died Thursday at his home. Services are pending with McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.

Cecil Cain

MAY -- Cecil Cain, 81, died Wednesday in a Brownwood hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Higginbotham Funeral Home Chapel in Rising Star.
