Homer Townsend
Homer O. Townsend, 95, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral
Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South, with James Stovall
officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.
Mr. Townsend was born in Antioch in Brown County and attended
school in Blanket. He married Odessa Harris in 1932 in Coleman.
He moved to Abilene in 1937 from Goldsboro and worked for H.O.
Wooten for four years and at Camp Barkeley during World War II.
He was employed by Waples Platter Wholesale Grocery for 23 years
until retiring. He was a member of Westgate Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, of Abilene; two sons, Gerald W.
Townsend and Freddie Townsend, both of Abilene; one brother, Jim
Townsend of Early; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

William 'Bill' Mann
LUBBOCK - William L. "Bill" Mann, 74, formerly of
Abilene, died Wednesday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday in Broadway Church of Christ
with Rodney Plunkett officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven
Memorial Park, directed by Sanders Funeral Home.
Mr. Mann was born in Collinsville and married Lillie "Pady"
Conel in 1943 in Tahoka. He served with the U.S. Air Force and
graduated from Abilene Christian and Texas Tech universities.
He taught school and was a principal in Crosbyton. He was superintendent
in Springlake-Earth from 1956 until retiring in 1982. He then
moved to Lubbock, where he was superintendent of the Lubbock Christian
school system. He started selling school insurance in 1986. He
was a life member of Parent-Teacher Association and a 26-year
member of the Springlake-Earth Lions Club. He also was a member
of Retired Teachers Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars and
Broadway Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, of Lubbock; three sons, Steven
Leo Mann, Tom Mann and Jimmy Dale Mann, all of Lubbock; one daughter,
Patti Wiebe of Hamilton Ontario, Canada; one sister, Doris Fayo
of Odessa; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Louis Quention 'L.Q.' Sneed
WINTERS - Louis Quention "L.Q." Sneed, 78, died Thursday
in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Winters First Baptist
Church. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, directed by Winters
Funeral Home.
Mr. Sneed was born in Ecru, Miss., and moved at age seven to
Pumphrey, where he attended school. He married Vera Lee Williams
in 1940 in Abilene and served with the U.S. Army during the Battle
of the Bulge in World War II. He was a farmer and rancher. He
was a deacon for many years at Drasco Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, of Winters; two sons, Louis Sneed
Jr. of Aledo and Randall Sneed of Winters; four daughters, Barbara
Washam of Wichita Falls, Rhonda Buchanan of San Angelo, Linda
Barr of Eula and Judy Grun of Moro; two brothers, K.V. Sneed of
Drasco and Bill Sneed of Coleman; four sisters, Eura Drake of
Tulsa, Okla., Irene Hutchins and Mae Manns, both of Abilene, and
Doris Nunn of Fresno, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Vera LaNita Davis Walton
RANGER - Vera LaNita Davis Walton, 82, died Wednesday in Abilene.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Edwards Funeral Home
Chapel with Kenneth Evans officiating. Burial will be in Crossroads
Cemetery.
Mrs. Walton was born in Seymour and lived in Ranger most of
her life. She worked in the registrar's office at Ranger College
for several years. She was a member of First Christian Church
and was the widow of Edgar Isaac Walton.
Survivors include two sons, Hal Walton of Ranger and Tom Walton
of Amarillo; three daughters, Jennie L.E. Rawls of Belton, Martha
Jo Ervin of Cortez, Colo., and Peggy King of Ranger; one brother,
Jo Davis of Albuquerque, N.M.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren;
one great-great-grandchild; and one niece and one nephew.

Jeroline Back
HAMLIN - Jeroline Back, 87, died Wednesday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Bethel Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl with the Rev. Kent Wallace officiating.
Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery in Ericksdahl, directed by Foster-Adams
Funeral Home.
Mrs. Back was born in Farmersville and moved to Haskell County
in 1920. She graduated from Stamford High School and attended
business school in Dallas. She married Carl Back in 1932 in Avoca
and moved to Hamlin in 1951. She worked as a dental assistant
until retiring in 1981. She was a member of Bethel Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Ericksdahl.
Survivors include her husband, of Hamlin; one daughter, Peggy
Schroyer of Hamlin; two sisters, Rosemary Malone of Hurst and
Doris Waggoner of Santa Fe; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Willie Mae Clark
CISCO - Willie Mae Clark, 80, died Thursday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Pleasant Hill Baptist
Church with the Rev. Bruce Stovall officiating. Burial will be
in Romney Cemetery, directed by Kimbrough Funeral Home.
Mrs. Clark was born in Dothan and worked at Boss Glove Manufacturing
and J.C. Penney. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church
and was the widow of Alton C. Clark, whom she married in 1936
in Cisco.
Survivors include one son, Truly Clark of Cisco; two daughters,
Teena Campbell and Twila Senterfitt, both of Cisco; one brother,
J.V. Allen of Gulfport, Fla.; one sister, Estelle Vada Mason of
Hunt; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several
nieces and nephews.
Sonya Scarlett
BRECKENRIDGE - Sonya Scarlett, 87, died Wednesday in a local
hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Melton Funeral Home
Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Rex Boggs officiating. Burial
will be in Gunsight Cemetery.
Mrs. Scarlett was born in Desdemona and lived in Stephens County
for many years. She married J.T. Scarlett in 1952 in Ranger and
was a retired registered nurse. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, of Breckenridge; one sister,
Hollis Holder of Stephenville; and several nieces and nephews.
Jane Moore
COLEMAN - Jane C. Moore, 75, lifelong local resident, died
Wednesday in a local nursing home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Coleman City Cemetery
pavilion with Dewey Mitchell officiating, directed by Walker Funeral
Home.
Mrs. Moore was born in Silver Valley in Coleman County and
married James E. Moore in 1941 in Coleman. She was a homemaker
and co-owned Moore Restaurant. She was a member of the Church
of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, of Coleman; three daughters,
Tommy Moore Mangham of Houston, and Vicky Moore Perrie and Ruthie
Moore, both of Coleman; one son, James Ellis Moore of Texas; six
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Talmadge Hinson
Talmadge P. Hinson, 16, of Buffalo Gap, died Thursday in a
local hospital. Services are pending with North's Funeral Home.
Geneva Alto Howard
Geneva Alto Howard, 83, died Thursday at her home. Services
are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.
Luther Ray Wright
SWEETWATER - Luther Ray Wright, 86, died Thursday in a local
hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Champion Baptist
Church, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
O'Brien Bowlin
BIG SPRING - O'Brien Bowlin, 71, of Ackerly, died Thursday
in a Lubbock hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in
Ackerly First United Methodist Church, directed by Nalley-Pickle
& Welch Funeral Home.
Thelma Joe Groves
SWEETWATER - Thelma Joe Groves, 94, of Dallas, died Wednesday
in a Dallas hospital. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday
in Sweetwater Cemetery, directed by Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral
