Today's Obituaries (Nov. 15, 1998)

Dorothy Mae Rives

Dorothy Mae Rives, 68, died Friday in a local nursing home.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday in North's Funeral Home Memorial Chapel, 242 Orange, with the Rev. David Bartley officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park.

Ms. Rives moved to Abilene at an early age and graduated from Abilene High School in 1947. She worked at the Dyess Air Force Base Hospital, P.O.L. and Dyess Chapel for 23 years until retiring in 1992. She was a Baptist.

Survivors include two sons, Thomas E. Rives of Abilene and Nolan A. Rives of Redland, Calif.; two daughters, Betty L. Tabor of Newalla, Okla., and Carol A. Sentena of Fort Worth; one sister, Betty Joyce Broyles of Abilene; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one aunt and several uncles.

Rebecca Sterling Smith

Rebecca Sterling Smith, 83, died Saturday at her home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Revs. Archie Echols and Kathryn Boren officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. in West Hill Cemetery in Sherman, directed by Allen-Korzenewski Funeral Home, 1443 N. 2nd.

Mrs. Smith was born in Crafton and graduated from Sherman High School. She worked as a realtor and also was a homemaker. She was a member of Creative Arts Club and Starkey-Fergus Circle of United Methodist Women at St. Paul United Methodist Church, and was the widow of Lionel C. Smith.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Smith of Waxahachie; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be sent to St. Paul United Methodist Church, 525 Beech, Abilene 79601; or Hendrick Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1922, Abilene 79604.

Leeoma 'Lee' Foster

Leeoma "Lee" Foster, 80, died Saturday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Rev. Bill Scott officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Foster was born in Comanche County and moved to Abilene in 1966 from Carlsbad, N.M. She worked for General Dynamics and Merchants Fast Motor Lines. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Clyde and was the widow of Robert D. Foster, whom she married in 1940 in De Leon.

Survivors include two sons, Robert D. Foster of Abilene and Hershel Glen Foster of Navada, Texas; one daughter, Patricia Goins Harris of Odessa; two brothers, Amos Elick Gilcrest of Andrews and F.G. Gilcrest of Robert Lee; two sisters, Edna James of Big Spring and Francis Blair of Victoria; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene 79605.

Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Tim Lewis 'T.L.' Beal

BROWNWOOD -- Tim Lewis "T.L." Beal, 69, of Lake Brownwood, died Friday in a De Leon hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Heartland Funeral Home Chapel in Early with Richard Hetzel officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Coleman City Cemetery.

Mr. Beal was born in Coleman, where he attended school, and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He later was in the Army Reserves. He worked as a building contractor for several years. He also was a line-type operator for the Coleman Democrat-Voice, Abilene Reporter-News, Brownwood Bulletin, Austin American-Statesman and Fort Worth Star Telegram. He moved to Lake Brownwood in 1970. He married Gina Marie Diffillppo in 1987 in Brownwood and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Lake Brownwood; one son, Michael Beal of May; two daughters, Pamela Lake of Lake Brownwood and Debbie Sikes of Hobbs, N.M.; two stepsons, Scotty Phelps and Reid D. Phelps; one brother, Bobby Gene Beal of Corpus Christi; three sisters, Juanita Pritchard of Michigan, Jewel Sheldon of Tennessee and Francine Hughes of Coleman; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer's unit of Peoples Nursing Home in Dublin.

H.P. 'Pasco' Vest

COLORADO CITY -- H.P. "Pasco" Vest, 81, died Friday in a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel with Kerry Cain officiating. Burial will be in Colorado City Cemetery.

Mr. Vest was born in Newport, Ark., and moved to Colorado City at an early age. He married Juanita Cox in 1939 in Colorado City. He worked at the Chevrolet dealership until 1960. He then owned and operated Vest Body Shop until retiring in 1979. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, of Colorado City; two sons, Donald Ray Vest of Plano and Stephen Wayne Vest of Fort Worth; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Annie Jane Wolf

HASKELL -- Annie Jane Wolf, 79, died Saturday at her home.

Services will be at 3 p.m. today in Eastside Baptist Church with the Rev. David Paige officiating. Burial will be in Willow Cemetery, directed by Holden-McCauley Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Wolf was born in Douglas, Ariz., and lived in Haskell for 76 years. She was a homemaker and was the widow of Leon Wolf, whom she married in 1947 in Haskell.

Survivors include three sons, W.L. Wolf and Bobby Wolf, both of Haskell, and James Wolf of Snyder; three daughters, Evelyn Crane, Juanette Martin and Betty Isbell, all of Haskell; one brother, Bud Larned of Haskell; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be sent to American Diabetes Association, 8008 Slide Road, Lubbock 79424.

The family will be at 105 S. Ave. C.

Pearl Dalton

Pearl Dalton died Saturday in a local nursing home. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

DeLois Henry

DeLois Henry, 71, died Saturday in a local hospital. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Lindsey Dale Freeman

Lindsey Dale Freeman, 19, of the Abilene State School, died Friday at the State School. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Etoyle Wylie

STEPHENVILLE -- Etoyle (Mrs. R.T.) Wylie, 98, of Simms Valley, died Friday in a local nursing home. Services are pending with Lacy Funeral Home.

Dorthy Mae Greaves

COLEMAN -- Dorthy Mae Greaves died Saturday in an Abilene hospital. Services are pending with Walker Funeral Home.

Techla Daily

BIG SPRING -- Techla Daily, 86, died Friday at her home after a long illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Myers & Smith Funeral Home Chapel.

Thomas Jefferson 'Jeff' DeShazo Jr.

HERMLEIGH -- Thomas Jefferson "Jeff" DeShazo Jr., 81, died Saturday in an Abilene hospital after a lengthy illness. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home Chapel in Snyder.
