Nicholas Alexander Kimball
Nicholas Alexander Kimball, 15, freshman at Cooper High School,
died Sunday in Abilene.
A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in Elliott-Hamil
Funeral Home Chapel of Faith, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South. Services
will be at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with the Rev. David
Benz officiating. Burial will be in Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories.
Nicholas was born in St. Paul, Minn., and moved to Abilene
in 1988 from Germany. He was active in the building-trades class
in school and was a Catholic.
Survivors include his parents, James and Jacqualine Kimball
of Abilene; one brother, Philip Kimball of Abilene; one sister,
Christina Kimball of Abilene; his grandparents, Phyllis Anderson
of Fridley, Minn., James Kimball of Largo, Fla., and Emily Kelleher
of Connecticut; and one aunt.
Julia Pirl Johnson
Julia Pirl Johnson, 71, died Monday in a local hospital.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Plum Street United
Methodist Church with the Rev. Howard Mims officiating. Burial
will be in Masonic Cemetery directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral
Home, 5701 U.S. Hwy 277 South.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Fairfield, where she attended school,
and moved to Abilene in 1969 from Levelland. She was employed
by Masters Cooperative for six years and was an assembly-line
worker for Texas Instruments for 10 years until retiring. She
was a member of Plum Street United Methodist Church and was the
widow of Edmond Johnson Sr., whom she married in 1947 in Freestone.
Survivors include three sons, Earnest Johnson, Edmond Johnson
Jr. and Donald Lee Johnson, all of Abilene; three daughters, Bobbie
Cleaver of Amarillo, Mary Jackson of San Diego and Ruby Pearl
Jones of Dallas; two sisters, Bertha Ferrell of Mexia and Samelia
Twigley of Cleveland; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren;
and many nieces and nephews.
The family will be at 5409 Questa.
Charles Beard
Charles T. Beard, 71, died Monday in a local hospital.
The body will be cremated. A memorial service will be at 3
p.m. Friday in Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories,
542 Hickory, with the Rev. Travis Brown officiating.
Mr. Beard was born in Crofton, Ky., where he graduated from
high school. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps during World
War II and U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He received
a World War II Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense
Service Medal, Meritorious Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal
with two loops and United Nations Service Medal. He graduated
from Angelo State University in San Angelo in 1967. He taught
chemistry, mathematics, physics and computer science at Buena
Vista High School in Imperial until retiring in 1994. He then
moved to Abilene. He was a member of Texas Retired Teachers Association
and Science Teachers Association of Texas. He was a Lutheran.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Beard of Austin and Charles
T. "Chuck" Beard Jr. of Waco; one daughter, Regina White
of Abilene; one stepdaughter, Deby Burnett of Fort Worth; and
four grandchildren.
Frank Mason
Frank R. Mason, 69, died Saturday in Dallas.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in New Light Baptist Church
with the Rev. Leo Scott officiating. Burial with military honors
will be in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Curtis-Starks Funeral
Home, 542 E.N. 7th.
Mr. Mason was born in Philadelphia and graduated from high
school in Gaffney, S.C. He attended Howard University and lived
in Abilene for many years. He was in the U.S. Air Force for more
than 20 years before retiring as a staff sergeant from Dyess Air
Force Base. He was a manpower director for Abilene's Community
Action Program. He helped relocate the Goodloe area in Abilene
in the early 1970s. He then became a self-employed real estate
broker. He was a member of New Light Baptist Church and was the
widower of Nannye Mason.
Survivors include two sons, George Mason of Dallas and Carl
Mason of Garland; four daughters, Teresa Bolden and Carla Mason,
both of Houston, Frances McCoy of Abilene and Shelia Lee Rowlette
of Dallas; and nine grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:30-6:30 p.m. today in the funeral
home.
Jerrie Ruth Thomson
Jerrie Ruth Thomson, 56, formerly of Waco, died Thursday in
a local hospital.
Services were Saturday in Waco. Local arrangements were made
by Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 U.S. Hwy 277 South.
Ms. Thomson was born in Mount Calm and graduated from Waco
High School. She was a homemaker and moved to Abilene in 1993
from Bellmead. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include three sons, Glenn Thomson and Gregg Thomson,
both of Abilene, and Geoff Thomson of Terrell; three sisters,
Wanda Bettge of Leroy, Sarah Briles of Spring and Debbie Phelps
of Houston; and five grandchildren.

Calvin Wolf
MERKEL - Calvin G. Wolf, 61, died Tuesday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Merkel First Baptist
Church with the Rev. Jimmy Griffith officiating. Burial will be
in Rose Hill Cemetery, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home.
Mr. Wolf was born in Cotton Center and attended Dawson High
School in Welch. He graduated from Cisco Junior College and married
Winona Hanley in 1958 in California. He served in the U.S. Navy
for four years. He was in the U.S. Air Force for 19 years and
was a Vietnam War veteran. He worked for the Merkel school district
for a total of 15 years. He was the district's maintenance supervisor
for four years. He was a Little League baseball coach for 10 years
and scoutmaster of Troop 218, also for 10 years. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, of Merkel; three sons, Calvin Wolf
Jr. of The Colony, Keith Wolf of Duncanville and Kyle Wolf of
Abilene; four brothers, Burel Wolf of Lancaster, Buren Wolf of
Roseville, Calif., John A. Wolf of Big Spring and Lloyd Wolf of
Roscoe; six sisters, Lorene Brown of Iowa Park, Pat Burk of Wichita
Falls, Helen Davis and Wilma Walker, both of Big Spring, Edna
Ray of Fort Worth and Wanda Wilson of Lamesa; three grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews.

Ernest Merle Flint
WICHITA FALLS - Ernest Merle Flint, 74, father of two Big Country
residents, died Sunday in a local nursing home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today in Riverside Cemetery
with L. Keith Parker officiating, directed by Owens & Brumley
Funeral Home.
Mr. Flint was born in Electra and lived in Wichita Falls most
of his life. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a retired security guard of Cryovac and was the widower
of Martha Flint.
Survivors include four daughters, Brenda Bural of Abilene,
and Diana Prater, Janet D. Booher and Tammy Fernandez, all of
Wichita Falls; four sons, Preston Goodner of Wichita Falls, Harold
Goodner and Jimmie Goodner, both of Lake Kickapoo, and Rick Goodner
of Brownwood; one brother, Billy Wayne Flint of Alabama; one sister,
Nellie Miller of Ramona, Okla.; 26 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Gladys Summers
STAMFORD - Gladys Summers, 84, of Weatherford and formerly
of Stamford, died Monday in a Weatherford care center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Orient Street Church
of Christ with Stan Harvey and Chad Massey officiating. Burial
will be in Highland Memorial Cemetery, directed by Kinney Funeral
Home.
Mrs. Summers was born in Alvord and grew up in Alvord and Post.
She lived in Stamford for many years and moved to Weatherford
in 1998. She was a member of Orient Street Church of Christ in
Stamford and was the widow of Robert Summers, whom she married
in Stamford.
Survivors include one daughter, Diann Gibbs of Plano; six sisters,
Violet Ralston and Ruby Cutbirth, both of Clyde, Jennie Manual
of Childress, Nannie Wilson and Nellie Wilson, both of Haskell,
and Odessa Pruiet of Majave Valley, Ariz.; three grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Joy Queen
EARLY - Joy Queen, 72, died Tuesday in an Abilene hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Heartland Funeral Home
Chapel with the Rev. R.J. Elkins officiating. Burial will be in
Jenkins Springs Cemetery.
Mrs. Queen was born in Minden, La., and married Roland Queen
in 1946 in South Sioux City, Neb. She was a homemaker and moved
to Brown County in 1977.
Survivors include her husband, of Early; two daughters, Linda
Merchen of Bossier City, La., and Ronda LaVaux of May; one brother,
Ray Swanner of Rhode Island; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
and many nieces and nephews.
Pearl Ethel Ellison
ASPERMONT - Pearl Ethel Ellison, 88, of Lubbock and formerly
of Aspermont, died Tuesday in Lubbock.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Aspermont First Baptist
Church with the Rev. Barry Taylor officiating. Burial will be
in Aspermont Cemetery, directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ellison was born in Franklin County and was a homemaker.
She was a Baptist and was the widow of Elmer Ellison, whom she
married in 1941.
Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Clark and Linda Attaway,
both of Lubbock; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
George Azro Moore Jr.
George Azro Moore Jr., 99, died Tuesday in a local nursing

Dorris June Conley, 82, formerly of the Abilene area, died
Tuesday in a San Antonio hospital. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil
