Juan Garza Gamez

Juan Garza Gamez, 69, of Abilene died Saturday at a local hospital.

A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Revs. James P. Bridges and Desmond Obi officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Gamez was born in Groesbeck and attended O'Brien High School. He moved to Abilene from New Braunfels in 1962 and retired as a bus driver for the city of Abilene. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He married Anita Martinez Gamez in 1947 in Knox City; she preceded him in death.

Survivors include three sons, Amador Martinez Gamez and David Anthony Gamez, both of Abilene, and Juan Gamez Jr. of Odessa; 11 daughters, Juanita Gomez, Romelia Carrillo, Olivia Rivera, Yolanda Saucedo, Linora Warwick, Norman Wales and Rosario Doyle, all of Abilene, Alfonsa Wimer of Colorado, Aurora Smiley of Montana, Martha Moreno of North Carolina and Melinda McCandless of Michigan; three sisters, Lupita G. Mancha of Odessa, Maria Martinez of Bishop, Calif., and Dominga Barrera of Willmington, Del.; 33 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

The family will be at 5433 N. 9th.

Hazel Elisabeth Hobbs

Hazel Elisabeth Hobbs, 80, of Abilene died Saturday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with the Revs. J.D. Hinson and David Cason officiating. Burial will be in Potosi Cemetery.

Mrs. Hobbs was born in Big Piney, Wyo., and graduated from Wylie High School in 1937. She retired in 1978 after working at Abilene State School for 11 years. She moved from Clyde to Abilene in 1982 and was a homemaker and a member of Hope Chapel. She married Clifton Hobbs in 1940 in Potosi; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons, William James Hobbs, Kenneth Ray Hobbs and Carroll Lee Hobbs, all of Abilene; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hendrick Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1922, Abilene 79604.

Harry Milton Combs

Harry Milton Combs, 87, of Abilene died Saturday at a local nursing center.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Archie Echols officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Mr. Combs was born in Memphis, Tenn., and attended elementary school in Henderson, Tenn., before moving to Abilene in 1925. He attended Abilene High School and was self-employed from 1932-1975. He sold building materials and was in the trucking business. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He married Martha J. Daugherty in 1930 in Abilene; she preceded him in death.

Survivors include one sister, Thelma Combs Collett of Abilene, and several nieces and nephews.

James Randall 'Randy' Means Sr.

BRECKENRIDGE - James Randall "Randy" Means Sr., 48, of Sherman and formerly of Breckenridge, died Saturday at a Dallas hospital.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. today in Post Oak cemetery with Charles Kuhn officiating, directed by Melton Funeral Home.

Mr. Means was born and grew up in Breckenridge and was a truck driver.

Survivors include one daughter, Angel Coffey of Tyler; one son, James Randall Means Jr. of Dallas; his parents, Clyde and Helen Means of Breckenridge; a grandmother, Fannie Gandy of Mineral Wells; two sisters, Paula Lyles of Abilene and Sharla Wells of Breckenridge; one brother, Perry Mark Means of Olathe, Kan.; two grandsons and several nieces and nephews.

Antonio Marines Hernandez

BROWNWOOD - Antonio Marines Hernandez, 78, of Bangs died Friday at a local hospital after a sudden illness.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Moses Maldonado officiating. Burial will be in Bangs Cemetery.

Mr. Hernandez was born in Whiteland and attended school in Mexico and Brady. He had lived in Bangs since 1975 after living in Utah and Brady. He was a laborer, a Baptist and an Army veteran of World War II. He married Clara Trevino in 1945 in Junction.

Survivors include his wife, of Bangs; three sons, Albert Hernandez of LaGrange, David Hernandez of Arlington and Steve Hernandez of Bangs; one daughter, Mary Cardoza of Bangs; three brothers, Rudy Hernandez and Conrad Hernandez, both of Ogden, Utah, and Thomas Gonzales of Brady; two sisters, Angelina Bara of Brady and Concha Marines Hernandez of Weslaco; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

W.F. 'Mutt' Crumpler

ANSON - W.F. "Mutt" Crumpler, 82, longtime owner of Palace Barber Shop, died Saturday at a local hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Loren Gardner officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Lawrence-Adams Funeral Home.

Mr. Crumpler was born in Wood County and moved to Jones County as a child. He attended Sinclair school, Anson High School and barber college in Dallas. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He entered the insurance business in 1968 and retired in 1973. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He married Celestine "Sis" Parker in 1933 in Abilene.

Survivors include his wife, of Anson; one daughter, Danna Mussman of Brady; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Roy 'Turk' Lynch

COLEMAN - Roy D. "Turk" Lynch, 85, of Mineral Wells and formerly of Coleman, died Sunday at a Mineral Wells resort.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Coleman City Cemetery Pavilion with the Rev. Kirk Horton officiating, directed by Walker Funeral Home.

Mr. Lynch was born in Gouldbusk and lived in Coleman most of his life. He attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and was retired. He married Juanita Barton in 1931 in Coleman; she preceded him in death.

Survivors include four grandsons and six great-grandchildren.

Joe Whatley

BROWNWOOD - Joe C. Whatley, 81, died Saturday at a San Angelo hospital.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Coggin Avenue Baptist Church with Lyall Eaves and Dr. Steve McMeans officiating, directed by Davis-Morris Funeral Home.

Mr. Whatley was born in Bangs and had lived in Brownwood for 25 years. He was a retired salesman, a Mason and a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church. He married Mildred Ruth Green in 1945 in Rockwall; she preceded him in death.

Survivors include a longtime companion, Ada Funderburg of Brownwood; two sons, Ron Whatley of Scarsdale, N.Y., and the Rev. Steve Whatley of Bacolod City, Philippines; one daughter, Jo Ann Eaves of Houston; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.

Belle Cheatham

ROWNWOOD - Belle Cheatham, 92, died Sunday at a local nursing home.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Rocky Creek Cemetery in Brown County.

Mrs. Cheatham was born in Brown County, where she lived most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Coggin Avenue Baptist Church. She married Sam Cheatham in 1935 in Brownwood; he preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sisters, Lillie Beaird and Pauline Taylor, both of Brownwood; three nieces and six great-nieces and -nephews.

Christy Sue Hay

SANTA ANNA - Christy Sue Hay, 60, of Dallas died Sunday at a Dallas hospital. Services will be at noon today at Henderson Funeral Home Chapel.

Alvin Edward Atkinson

GOLDTHWAITE - Alvin Edward Atkinson, 88, of San Angelo died Sunday at a San Angelo hospital. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home Chapel.

William Robinson Sr.

William L. Robinson Sr., 76, of Abilene died Sunday at a local hospital. Services are pending with Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory.

Roma Lou Abney

TAYLOR - Roma Lou Abney, 78, of Taylor and formerly of Strawn, died Friday at a local hospital. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Church of Christ in Strawn, directed by Edwards Funeral Home of Strawn.

Margarita Alcantar Ramirez

BIG SPRING - Margarita Alcantar Ramirez, 78, of Fort Worth and formerly of Big Spring, died Saturday at her home. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Rosewood Chapel. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Bobby Forrest

DE LEON - Bobby Ray Forrest, 35, died Saturday at a local hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, directed by Nowlin Funeral Home.

Joy Ann Henry

BIG SPRING - Joy Ann Henry, 63, died Sunday in Big Spring. Services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.

Antonia Garcia

BIG SPRING - Antonia Garcia, 76, died Saturday at a local nursing home. Services are pending with Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
