Cans and cats at the Fair
In case you've forgotten, or haven't noticed the cooler temperatures and cloudy skies, the West Texas Fair & Rodeo is under way this week, and tonight is traditionally one of the Fair's most popular occasions - Cantastic Night.
You can receive free admission to the fairgrounds for 6 Pepsi or Dr Pepper cans or any product cans produced by Pepsi or Dr Pepper. In addition, arm bands allowing unlimited rides at the carnival can be purchased for $10 with the cans ($15, without cans).
One of this year's new attractions is the Great Cats of the World exhibit, sponsored by Perry Hunter Hall. "Jungle" Jay Riggs has brought 16 big cats from the Bridgeport Nature Center northwest of Dallas for an educational and entertaining show that's quite unlike anything you see in a circus.
There are African lions, a South American cougar, a Chinese leopard, an Asian panther, Bengal tigers from India, Siberian tigers from Russia and four of the world's only 200 Royal White Bengal tigers.
The shows are in the outdoor area north of the MLM Round Annex at 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, an additional show is at 3 p.m. For an extra charge, spectators can have their photograph taken with these magnificent creatures.
