Progressive health care

Health care in Abilene is making big strides forward.

On Wednesday, Abilene Regional Medical Center announced plans for a $15.6 million, three-story Women's Center, to be completed by late 1999. The major northwest side extension will house a variety of diagnostic, educational and support services that focus on the medical needs of women.

Also last week, Hendrick Health System opened half of Hickory Center, a $5.5 million medical complex at North 18th and Hickory that houses physicians' offices.

Then on Thursday, Hendrick Retirement Center's Mesa Springs officially opened at Mesa Springs Village Center, 7171 Buffalo Gap Road, offering a $1 million complex for dining, meeting and event space for residents of the retirement living facility.

And looking just ahead, progress continues on Hendrick's new cancer treatment center.

These welcome developments enhance the high-quality health care offerings for residents of Abilene and the surrounding area that are already available from the city's two fine medical institutions. The more options they provide, the better these two hospitals will be able to meet the needs of the communities they serve.
