Leadership's function
A new poll shows that America's leaders - members of Congress, presidential appointees and senior civil servants - do not believe the American people know enough about the issues to decide wisely what should be done.
To use an altogether appropriate expression, Duh!
Correct us if we're wrong here, but that's why we choose them for these high offices - and pay them six-figure salaries.
If, to preserve the republic, average Americans must forsake the Little League schedule to immerse themselves, say, in the details of the International Monetary Fund's new recommendations on international financial transparency, we don't need a better educated public. We need new leaders.
