Time to think of letters

The primary elections will be upon us sooner than you might think. Early voting for the March 10 primaries begins Feb. 23, which is only a week from Monday.

With that in mind, the editors at the Reporter-News would like to encourage readers who want to write letters supporting a candidate not to delay in conveying them to us. We want everyone to have the opportunity to participate in the public forum of the Opinion Page, and the easiest way for readers to do that is to send in their letters soon and follow our basic guidelines.

Letters must be signed. In addition to your name, please include your street address and phone number. Without that information, we can't verify that you wrote the letter.

Letters must be no longer than 250 words. Less is often better. If they're typed or printed legibly, letters are much easier to process, and submissions should be kept to one per month.

Mail them to Letters to the Editor, Abilene Reporter-News, P.O. Box 30, Abilene, TX 79604. Our fax is (915) 670-5242. Send e-mail letters to letter@abinews.com. E-mail letters must also include the writer's street address and phone number and be 250 words or less.
