Best man for office
As an ex-Abilene police officer, deputy sheriff and lifelong
member of the Taylor County community, I consider effective law
enforcement to be very important. As a police officer I have had
to testify numerous times, and the most important thing in the
world is having a DA you can trust. He must believe in you as
an officer. James Eidson is that man.
I have had the privilege of knowing James for several years, and
I count him among my friends. James is from this area and knows
what Abilene needs. Every year that James has served the county,
he has gotten better and more effective.
After Eidson's 19 years with the DA's office, this city couldn't
find a better man for that office. James Eidson is a fine man
and a strong supporter of law enforcement. I encourage you to
give him your vote.

Bankruptcy relevant
Psychologist Dr. Mark Cunningham would have us believe he and
his wife, county commissioner candidate Melinda Cunningham, filed
only a business bankruptcy and not a personal one.
Well, it was pretty personal to their dozen employees, the local
vendors and the bank that were left holding the bag for $368,008
in debt while Dr. and Mrs. Cunningham continued to live in a luxurious
Lytle home with a pool and drive a year-old Suburban.
The bankruptcy was filed in February 1992, the same month Mrs.
Cunningham became president-elect of the local Junior League.
One wonders why she didn't go to work and help to pay the debt
instead.
Is the bankruptcy relevant to her qualifications for public office?
Yes, I think so.

Strong presence
I need to thank an Abilenian for being the candidate for county
commissioner.
I had the opportunity to meet Chuck Statler. Chuck has a sincere
desire to represent our community. He has such a warm, strong
presence that makes me feel confident he is the best choice for
county commissioner.

Melinda understands
This is in support of Melinda Cunningham for county commissioner.
I have known and worked with Melinda on issues related to youth,
families and city government. She is one of the hardest working
and most committed people I have ever observed when she takes
on a job, listening carefully to all the issues, being sensitive
to people from different backgrounds and prudently managing budgets
to squeeze a dollar's worth of value out of 10 cents.
If you work or own a business, have children or have a family
who has to live within a budget, you couldn't ask for a more outstanding
person to serve you in government. Melinda Cunningham understands
the concerns you live with on a daily basis.

A better airport
Please allow me to add my voice to those who are excited and
eager to be a part of encouraging our city to create an airport
that will not be an embarrassment to us when visitors arrive.
From anywhere in the world, it is necessary to go to D-FW to board
a plane for Abilene. Is this insane? Did anyone ever consider
proposing to Southwest that they might alternate a couple of flights
daily between Midland and Abilene? Makes sense, doesn't it?
This may be an uphill journey, but we must do it.
