Golden oldies
I moved here from the Metroplex where we had a great "oldie" station, and I have been waiting and hoping for something like that to finally arrive in Abilene. Well, thanks, KOOL 92.5, you have arrived!
For all of you who haven't tuned in yet -- for baby boomers who love the sound of that good, old music -- this station is for you.
Thanks for all the memories. You're doing a great job.

Paying cosmic price
It was very sad, but not unexpected, that Texas would conceive a law to execute children in response to the recent tragedy in Arkansas. It seems we still have to learn that the wrath of man cannot produce moral understanding but only the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.
It should evoke just such an "awe-ful" trembling in our society if ever we realize that Christ knew us before time began when he put a cross (X) in the heart of "Texas" and called it "friendship" (Tejas).
Whatever the form or appeal of our prisons and whatever we have made of Christ's ransom, a cosmic price has been paid, and even shall we know that God has poured out his Holy Spirit before the "great and terrible day of the Lord."

Helpful hands
Recently, another elderly woman and I were within eight miles of Abilene on our way from south of Austin when my car blew a head gasket.
Within three minutes, three different vehicles stopped to help us.
Although he was headed in the opposite direction, Curtis Gayle of Tuscola offered and we accepted his most kind help. He took us to my son's home in Abilene.
When I tried to pay this young man, he refused payment.
How wonderful it is to know there are still such wonderful, caring people in the world. God bless Curtis Gayle and the others who stopped to assist us.

City of crybabies
I moved to Abilene a year ago from the Austin-San Antonio area, and I want to say this is a beautiful, friendly city and I have enjoyed living here. However, something is starting to get on my nerves.
Abilenians are starting to come across as whining crybabies. The article in Monday's paper about building a crosswalk on the freeway is just the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of in my life. Someone in the article said something like, "If Abilene wants to be a big city, it needs to start acting like one."
It's not Abilene that's acting inappropriately, it's you people. Three people in as many years have died while crossing Winters Freeway. Where I'm from, that is very good odds, and for the size of Abilene it's very good odds also.
The article also stated all three crossed at night. Pardon me for saying this, but that is sheer ignorance and untestifiable stupidity. What did they think was going to happen crossing a busy street at night? I knew better than that when I was five.
Apparently y'all don't realize this, but there are already crosswalks all along the freeway. They are called underpasses. There are at least eight of them stretching from Ambler to Buffalo Gap. People don't even use those. What makes you think people are going to walk all the way down to one or two crosswalks?
People are lazy and will do what is convenient. Some pay for it and some don't. Let your city spend our tax money for something to better it and to build it, not for sissy stuff that will have no impact whatsoever.
