Grateful for help

My wife and I recently had an experience the general public should know about. We had a premature birth June 1 and want to share our heartfelt thanks to the staff and doctors who assisted us at Abilene Regional Medical Center.

Our nurses were Mimi, Karen, Holly, Julie and others whose names we did not get during the rush. Our neonatologist was Dr. Marshall, while our ObGyn was Dr. Cass. We cannot thank these fine people enough for all of their professional care, compassion and concern they gave us.

Our little daughter only lived one day, but we are satisfied to know everything humanly possible was done for us and our child. We give our thanks for their efforts.

We also want to thank everyone who called, sent cards and food and prayed for us. You never know how many friends you have until you need to lean on them. The outpouring of comfort was truly amazing, and we thank you all.

A sssspecial exhibit

Several children involved with Big Brothers/Big Sisters enjoyed a "sssspecial" afternoon viewing the "Slither" exhibit at the Grace Museum. High school volunteers from around Texas who were attending ACU's Camp Kadesh were their buddies for the afternoon. "EIEE!" was the best way to describe the snake exhibit - educational, interesting, exciting and a bit eerie.

We are so blessed in Abilene to have the Grace Museum to provide our children with many educational opportunities. Not only does the museum bring art to their lives, but exhibits like "Slither" show them the wonders and beauty of science through exhibits and classes on insects and snakes.

If you have not taken the time to go to the museum with your children, plan now to go, learn and enjoy the current "Slither" exhibit. At Big Brothers/Bit Sisters, we will be taking our "littles" to the museum often.

Our local talent

First, I'd like to give my sincere gratitude to Greg Jaklewicz, who, to my knowledge, is the only person who has given any exposure to our local talented musicians.

I've heard and met some of them but in particular Jay Satterwhite and the Posse West band. I've been a big fan of Jay's for years, and some of the guys in Posse West and have followed them for years. For instance, when Jay and the drummer, Randy, were part of the Shadetree band.

What is wrong with our community? Why don't all Abilene citizens want to get behind our local talent? I've requested "Rodeo Time," Jay's single, from our local radio stations numerous times but as yet to no avail.

Also, the song ''Rodeo Time" and several other songs that will be on Jay's upcoming album, "Change of Heart," are by the songwriter Brenda Hefferman, also a local talent.

I am, to say the least, puzzled as to why Abilene citizens are not allowed to respond, whether positively or negatively, and I'd be surprised at the latter response.

Just sign me a disgruntled and confused fan.

Fine citizen lost

On behalf of all the coffee club members from Burger King on North 1st, I want to let the people of Abilene know we lost a fine citizen and business leader recently in the passing of Eddie Barton.

Those who did not know Eddie missed knowing a very caring gentleman. It's not often that a man as busy as Eddie would sit down with you over a cup of coffee and discuss all the world's problems and also ask about your family.

We all miss you, Eddie, and will always remember your kindness.
