Buffalo Gap tower?
How I wish my mobile phone supplier would put up a 130-foot tower southwest of Abilene so we would have good mobile telephone communication in the Buffalo Gap area.
Several times monthly we come to Abilene and Buffalo Gap in our motor home for business purposes. We stay at Buffalo Gap, usually about five days. We try to communicate back to Brownwood on the cellular phone, but Abilene cellular is so weak a signal that we have trouble getting through to long-distance to complete our calls.
If we do get a call through or receive one, the boys on final approach to Dyess shatter the call and knock the TV off, too.
The engineers at both locations (Abilene cellular and Brownwood cellular are the same company) tell me that 130-foot tower would solve my problems.
So Lytle Lake residents, please send that tower out Buffalo Gap way so we can have good telephone service.

Perks for himself
A recent letter to the editor hit the nail right on the head. Charlie Stenholm is good at getting perks. Perks for himself, that is.
During his 20 years in office, he has become quite rich. He has raised his own salary to more than $133,000 per year and has stated he will raise it again next year if re-elected.
He's traveled all over the world at taxpayer expense, and he's built up a retirement fund of over $2 million!
The recent letter to the editor was also right in saying Rudy Izzard won't get these perks. Mr. Izzard is not going to Congress to get rich -- in fact, he's pledged to not take any salary increase while in Congress.
We need a citizen-legislator, not a professional politician who is in it for the perks.

Bruce will be missed
Abilene, we are losing a great asset to the Abilene Reporter-News.
I've enjoyed reading about other countries and their cultures. Thanks, Bob Bruce, for so many years of service and dedication. You will be greatly missed. Good luck and God bless.
