Defending Matta

I would like to say something in the defense of Sam Matta.

I feel that Rex Andrew needs to clean up his own house before he tries to clean up some one else's!

Mr. Andrew would make a great assistant to Kenneth Starr. If this JP thing doesn't work out for him maybe he should head for Washington and see if Mr. Starr is in need of an assistant.

I cannot believe, Mr. Andrew, this is not personal. Maybe you should have had someone else present your ideas; maybe then I could believe this is not personal.

I would like to close with this: Sam Matta is a fine and decent man and usually that is all you need for others to try and find fault in everything you do. It seems to be the American thing to do these days !

JP being catty

Being a long way from home at the moment, I tend to read the Abilene Reporter-News online daily.

I never realized that men could be as catty as women, until I began reading the goings on between the Taylor County JPs Rex Andrew and Sam Matta.

If I were Rex Andrew, I would step back and take a good look at my behavior. Mr. Andrew has become obsessed with Sam Matta's problems.

Mr. Andrew seems also to be pointing a guilty sign at Judge Matta, the case was settled by the county, not in a trial by the courts.

Mr. Matta's on his way out, sit back and relax and tend to your court while you have it. When next I vote for a JP, I'll think long and hard before I put my mark next to your name.

Clean-up time

Why are we still putting up with and printing the squabble between our two JPs?

I don't know about other taxpayers and voters, but I'm tired of our two elected officials fighting like two kids. Are these the type of people we must look to to enforce our laws?

I say its time to look elsewhere for our JPs. Enough is enough.

I know one will be leaving the first of the year, but what assurance do we have that it won't be the same with the new JP? I say it's time to clean house.

Develop sign codes

The City Council is supporting a small group of Abilenians who do not want to look at unsightly cell-phone towers.

Why not show similar concern for the thousands of citizens who daily drive our streets, which have become hopelessly cluttered with billboards and signs of all sizes, shapes and heights?

The appearance of Abilene could be noticeably improved if the city developed reasonable codes for signs and billboards.
